There can only be so many 50th Streets and 1st Avenues

With all the new construction and obviously increasing populations in some cities, I think the "street namers" just have to be more unique as the "normal" names are being used. JMO

A lot of those people on the streets are
veterans, people who fought for our country, who came home and did not receive the proper mental/substance abuse help they really should have been entitled to. We are so quick to send people out to war but forget about them when they come home. A lot of them are Vietnam vets. Most people on the streets are there because they are not able to function in society, mostly due to mental/substance problems. Our country is sorely lacking in resources to provide these people with the proper help they need. There are others that no matter how much you help them, they will continue to be out on the streets. The fact of the matter is that it is up to each person to have responsibility in one's life. There are times though when everyone could use a little help, especially the elderly, mentally handicapped, disabled, etc. How is it for our government to have so many children that are uninsured? How are our tax dollars going to work for the better of this country? The hurricane is only pennies compared to other areas we waste money on.

The government needs a serious overall. The people who take advantage of the help that is out there are pathetic, but there are people who need help that are not able to get any. My friend for instance got laid off from her job over a year ago. She can only find a job making less than half of what she was making. She is struggling to make ends meet. Never in her life has she asked for any type of assistance, ever. She has paid her taxes. She has taken care of her child with NO child support. She cannot afford to have insurance. If she gets insurance, she might as well not work. She put her daughter on Medicaid, or whichever one it is, but she did without. After getting a 50 cent raise, they dropped her. She made too much money. She tried to reapply. You know what is on the application? If you are an illegal here, you are guaranteed coverage. No questions asked. That was on the form! She pays taxes, but she can't get help. People who pay no taxes are guaranteed help. Where is the sense in that? BTW, her daughter, 6 years old, went on the break her hip 2 months later. Since she had no insurance, the hospital pushed her through with only 1 x-ray, said she just sprained it, put her in a brace thing, and 1 month later she was still in pain. She took her daughter back and they had to transfer her to Texas Children’s Hospital. The poor baby’s hip was almost healing. She had been walking around on a broken hip for a month! I think people should spend their time worrying more about those BIG issues than some person standing in line for water. Bottom line, our government drops the ball all the time. To say everyone needs to just get off their butt and take care of themselves is just ignorant and generalizing. To say everyone is entitled to everything is ignorant too. This is not a black and white issue. There is more than 1 side.

50th Birthday
I turned 50 last year. Don't know if you have access to co-worker's family, but if you do and can get some pictures, a little scrapbook is something I got that I just treasure. Mine had the internet stuff about the day in history, then prices on various things on that date, and then pictures of me and family from early years to present. Just a suggestion. Also, some of the Red Hat Society stuff is kind of fun.
50th Birthday
We did a party last year for my brother-in-law - just the regular "over-the-hill" stuff, but on the cake we had them write Happy half a century Birthday instead of using the 50 - it made it sound so much older. - I shouldn't gest - i'm almost there myself.
50th birthday ideas sm
For my husband's 50th, his brother made a card with heavy card stock, got 50 silver dollars and arranged them in the shape of a 50, attaching them to the card. (With a lower budget you could use smaller denominations).

For my 50th, my sister made up a scrap book with old photos (including old prom pictures), which I love.

For my husband's 50th we also did the poodle skirt thing (he, my cousin's husband, and my uncle-in-law all turned 50 the same year so we had a combined surprise party)
Any good ideas to celebrate 50th Birthday
A friend and co-worker turns 50 next Tuesday and we are planning a 1950s celebration here at work.We are gonna dress in poodle skirts and jeans and t-shirts, etc., but I'm looking for something else... maybe a unique poem..or any unique ideas?  Anybody have any tips?  TIA!
