grosser than yours, eeewww!
How can you mention this, just like that??? Out of the blue?

Do you suffer from 'vocal tics?'

(n.) A calculous concretion found in the intestines of certain ruminant animals (as the wild goat, the gazelle, and the Peruvian llama) formerly regarded as an unfailing antidote for poison, and a certain remedy for eruptive, pestilential, or putrid diseases. Hence: Any antidote or panacea.

Here's the definition I found: sm
"A ball of swallowed foreign material (usually hair or food) that becomes trapped in the stomach or the intestines."

That's on Google, and that's the way context in which the dictating physicians used that term on the reports I typed for 22 years. :)
I googled this and found a definition of a wav. file.
WAV (or WAVE), short for Waveform audio format, is a Microsoft and IBM audio file format standard for storing an audio bitstream on PCs. ...  It is basically the format in which an audio file is saved.  There are all sorts of audio formats such as dss., wma., etc...Hope this helps!!

U R confusing official definition of professional with "popular" definition...sm

the official definition is those jobs like physicians, PA's, NP's, law, etc. Not something you do for a long time or what your job is. The popular definition for profession is what you do. Same thing with vocation, a official definition would hold to calling, such as clergy or nuns or missionaries... popular would say what's your job. So depends if you are looking for the popular definitions vs. the official definitions, though I will say some very ignorant people posting on the topic...

BNP abbrv definition

BNP WHAT IS THE DEFINITION FOR THIS ABBR

IRS created the new SE definition and

then felt it was being abused.  They then noticed how large the MT industry was and decided that would be where they would focus their efforts to decide whether to keep the status or do away with it.  In order to find out that information, they had to start doing audits if the "SE" box on your W2 was marked.  I hired a tax person to help me but his efforts were fruitless.  One day after faxing back and forth and writing back and forth, I got on the phone and held for almost 5 hours until I got someone in the department created for consumer complaint resolution.  I was amazed to find myself talking to someone who was intelligent!  They saw what the problem was, saw that all the documentation was in place and negated all activity by clicking a few keys on his computer.  I had owed about $2000 that year but had already paid it as it was a retroactive audit, so I was lucky with how things worked out.

I was just wondering if anyone else had problems.  I've chosen to never again have SE status so as not to have lightening strike again!

Depends on your definition (sm),
doesn't it?
definition of acquaintance....sm

  1. Knowledge of a person acquired by a relationship less intimate than friendship.
  2. A relationship based on such knowledge: struck up an acquaintance with our new neighbor.

  3. Someone you know.

from dictionary.com

The IRS definition of an employee is this:
Who Is an Independent Contractor?

A general rule is that the EO, as the payer, has the right to control or direct only the result of the work done by an independent contractor, and not the means and methods of accomplishing the result.

I'd suggest you get a consultation with an attorney, and be sure to file your response with EDD.
See definition inside.

From Webster's online dictionary:

A written or oral defamatory statement or representation that conveys an unjustly unfavorable impression b (1): a statement or representation published without just cause and tending to expose another to public contempt (2): defamation of a person by written or representational means (3): the publication of blasphemous, treasonable, seditious, or obscene writings or pictures (4): the act, tort, or crime of publishing such a libel.

Based on the definition above...
I would come away from viewing that site with an unfavorable impression and unjustly so for the name of the company as well.

I think there's a good argument for libel there.
You need to look up the definition of synechiae....sm
It does refer to the eye, but also refers to any adhesions in the body, lung, uterus, vulva etc.
Small national definition
Would you define what you would perceive as a "small" national, and then maybe I could better have an idea how to respond to you with some ideas.
Depends on the company's definition.
At MQ, a medical Editor is a Transcriptionist who uses ASR (automated speech recognition) to get her job done; she literally edits the speech recognition product.

The QA Specialist handles the QA blanks the MTs or MEs send.

Have you tried checking the IRS website for their definition?
If there's a standard anywhere, it should be based on that.
The definition of "US-Based"
Does NOT mean the company doesn't off-shore its work!!!! It might just mean they have offices in New York and LA where they answer the phones before shipping the work off to India or elsewhere.
MTs by definition are hired to transcribed - sm

what the doctor dictates.  We can't be expected to have to catch their mistakes - they're supposed to catch their own.  That's why they're being paid the big bucks and we're note.  Years back, we weren't expected to know all this stuff -- the meaning of every word we transcribed, the normal/abnormal lab values, what a particular drug is used for, and I could go on and on, and we were paid better, appreciated more & respected more.

I do agree that we must know how to spell medical words and words of English usage.  That's what they get for their 7-8-8.5 cents per line.  I do NOT believe that we should have to look up doctor's names, on our time, when the dictator has it right in front of him/her and would take him/her only 2-3 seconds to spell it, thus also avoiding any confusion.  But I guess that would be too easy.

I didn't always feel this way.  Years back, when I was treated as a professional and compensated accordingly, I performed as such.  If I want to flag a doc's mistake, I do it for the PATIENT'S sake (but for the grace of God it could be me or a loved one lying in that hospital bed) - and as a courtesy to the doctor.  But they really expect too much for too little.

Webipedia dictionary definition of flame is SM
(n.) A searing e-mail or newsgroup message in which the writer attacks another participant in overly harsh, and often personal, terms. Flames are an unfortunate, but inevitable, element of unmoderated conferences.
(v.) To post a flame.

My definition of hard work is totally different.

When I need a reality check on how good I got it with this at-home typing thing, I do my chores outside in the freezing cold or sweltering heat and realize that is about the only other thing I could do in this state for income, and I'd be lucky if I got minimum wage with no bennies out of it.

I guess you have to look at it from a different perspective every now and again.  I've heard of people who leave MTing at home because they miss the buzz of an office, and then the cranky patient's and office politics breaks them down and brings them back to doing their thing solo again.

For me, the pay isn't too awfully bad because I figure don't have to buy fancy clothes, I don't have to worry about a car, gas, packing/buying lunch, and putting on a happy face if I don't want to.

We all have bad days.  Those are days when you really need to take a deep breath or two and walk away for a bit.  They will get better.  If the bad days just keep on a'comin, well, then I suppose it would be time to look for a change, and there's nothing wrong with that either.

Depends on the definition you choose to accept
It can be "the particular occupation for which you are trained" or simply "a person's job or profession." I choose to think of mine as a career, also. I have not failed to increase my income each year, albeit by a relatively small amount, each year for the last seven. I think maybe the main difference between categorizing MT as a "career" or a "job" is one's contentment with where they are and what they are doing.

http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=define%3A+career
Oh, I found it really creepy when you said you found the flowers not so skillfully arranged on your
steps, and from your own flower bed.  That's what I was worried about, having gone thru some psycho kids myself with my pups.  Someone's been in your yard and in your garden and at your door without your knowledge.  Its just creepy to me, and I'd still be very, very careful.  Especially valid sounded the other MTs warning you about potential fake molestation charges.  You just NEVER know nowadays, and these people have already turned on you big time once. Luckily (though I don't believe in luck), you had it on film to save yourself and your puppy.  You might not be that lucky next time, and the whole thing just sounds very unstable to me right now.  I know you feel sorry for the little girl, but probably the only time I have ever made BAD decisions regarding my life is when I felt sorry for someone, particularly kids.  My son even has an evil kid in his life, but one who has a million reasons for sympathy, and I was saying how we should "be bigger" than the situation and invite this kid over to play.  Thankfully, I regained my sanity long enough to remember - ever time I have done something like that on a personal basis for someone just because I feel sorry for them AFTER horrible behavior, it has always been a disaster... Be kind, but you don't have to risk your family again. Be kind from a distance.  Its sorry she went thru this horrible experience, but YOU didn't cause it, and its not really your problem.  But it could be your problem if this kid acts out in your life.  Know what I mean?
look up each definition..and it is drug-eluting stent. with hyphen.
nm
Another definition of satanic is a behavior that is evil , which I think may have been the original
poster's intended meaning.
Only if that is coupled with a line definition of greater than 55 char.

Geez. give the girl a break already. For definition of racist, sm
PER WIKIPEDIA: Racism is a belief system or doctrine which postulates a hierarchy among various human races or ethnic groups. It may be based on an assumption of inherent biological differences between different ethnic groups that purport to determine cultural or individual behaviour. ...

I went back and read the OPs post about 3 times. Not once did she use the word hate and she said "most" not "all." We've all had bad days. I was cursing under my breath while working just today because one inconsiderate mumbling Primadonna ruined my entire morning. She just happened to be American.

Face it. There is a stereotype that many doctors have God complexes, are arrogant, demanding, and have to have their way. Doctors are inconsiderate. These are intelligent people that just don't give a rats. I'll prove it by saying that I've been a medical Transcriptionist for 18 years and no other "professional" has ever belched, eaten, cursed, or urinated while on the phone with me.

You don't have to be an MT to get frustrated over the language barrier either. I've owned my last Dell computer, not because I hate Indians, but because every single time I've had to call I wind up ending the call because there is a complete communication breakdown. I would expect that if I "chose" to live in another country, but this is my home. Americans are the ones having to learn a second language because so many foreigner just wont. Just look at how many job posting there are for bilingual receptionists and secretaries. It's just not like that anywhere else but here. If I "chose" to live in Japan, Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, etc. you'd better believe I would be the one to learn "their" language. Why should they accommodate me? I'm on their soil. Why should it be any different here? No where else on the globe is it like this.

Sorry if this is long and choppy. I got distracted.
I think I found it, found multiple recipes with the same
exact ingredients so I figure this must be it.
Found it, Prolastin, also found

How do they define a word? Is it characters? Is it the MS Word definition
of a word? You can fit approximately 500 words on one page of typing. It's about $.055 per line, or $2.75 per page. It's up to you. It's not great, but you are a newbie. If you don't have any other offers out there, try it for a while to gain some experience.
What I have found ...
is that specialties are usually easier because they are a confined, defined, specific, and more narrow scope of medical terminology, etc. As well, you will not have as many dictators to learn in a specialty field.

The more broad/general the work you transcribe, the greater the base fund of knowledge you need for knowing the terminology, medications, tests, procedures, diagnoses, treatments, symptoms, etc.

Just my experience.
I found their ad.
I see in an old post that you work PT for them?  Are they hiring any PT at all right now?  Do they consider PT to be by hours or by lines?  I can go to their website, too, if you don't get back to this.  Thank you.
found it, thanks anyway...nm

I found it as gm in BOS
per BOS, so I guess take your pick.
I FOUND OUT
I work for a hospital, not for MQ, but we use their DQS program. What they do, is go in on DocQmanage and change up how they count the lines. They use a divisor that changes. They can count or not count whatever they want, and they do it! They are literally stealing from us.
Tri-Est - Found it!
It never fails - I searched for this multiple times yesterday and again this morning.  As soon as I posted it on the board, I found it.    Sorry to have bothered you all.

THAT IS JUST WANT I HAVE FOUND
out from a nice person who emailed me with some very helpful information. Looks like that is my first task, to have some dictation of my ownm some nice Americans and ESL physicians to use in classes.....Should not be too hard to do....I have acess to a hospital.....I was under the impression that since I purchased the programs and each had the company label on them, crediting them with ownership, I would be in the clear. Guess not.
Found it. Thanks.

I found it used for $100..
You can look on Mtdaily.com under classifieds or post a wanted ad. It very rarely sells on ebay.

I use it and love it too. Took me a month to be real efficient with it though.

I just went to my first one and I found myself....

I was dressed nice, it was held indoors/outdoors at the botanical gardens in the city where I live, but I really believe I was underdressed......not fancied up enough.

Oh well, it was my first one EVER, and was for my friend's eldest, and I went, and it was fun and nice; a lot of dancing mainly.  All women were in skirts or dresses.......no slacks or fancy trousers.......

The men, on the other hand, and the boys, were dressed far more casually than the girls/women.  Jeans and nice shirts were what most men and boys were wearing....very neat and clean, but I found that odd too, that the women/girls were FAR more dressed up.

We gave $$.....*S*

I think I found something

From what I can tell, we are considered "commissioned" workers and there are rules as to how OT can be applied.  What do you think?

I found this one!
Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake Brownie Bars Recipe

Ingredients
Bottom:
4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
8 Tbsp butter (1 stick), melted and cooled to room temperature
1 egg
1 pkg (21.2 ounces) brownie mix (tested with Betty Crocker Triple Chunk)

Cheesecake Layer:
3 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 eggs at room temperature
3/4 cup pureed strawberries, fresh or frozen, sweetened with 1 Tbsp sugar (sugar is optional)

Topping:
1 pkg (3 ounces) strawberry-flavored gelatin
1/2 cup boiling water
1/4 cup strawberries, cut into 1/2-inch chunks

Instructions
Bottom:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9 by 13-inch pan with non-stick foil.

Cream butter and cream cheese together; add egg and mix until smooth. Combine creamed mixture with dry brownie mix, stirring by hand. Mixture will be thick. Spread evenly in foil-lined pan and bake for 15 minutes. Cool to room temperature.

Cheesecake Layer:
Beat cream cheese, 3/4 cup sugar and vanilla with electric mixer until well blended. Add eggs, 1 at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition just until blended. Reserve 1-1/2 cups of the plain batter. Stir strawberry puree into remaining batter.

Spoon strawberry batter over bottom; top with evenly-spaced spoonfuls of plain batter. Swirl a butter knife through topping for marble effect, taking care not to dislodge the bottom brownie layer.

Bake at 350 degrees F. for 40 to 45 minutes or until center is set and edges lightly browned. Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate while preparing topping.

Topping:
Combine boiling water and both boxes of gelatin. Stir until no more sugar or gelatin granules are visible and liquid is clear. Cool to room temperature. Add strawberry chunks and mix well. Pour cooled strawberry gelatin mixture over top of cooled cheesecake and spread evenly. Refrigerate for at least two hours. Cut into bars before serving. Refrigerate leftovers.

Yield: 24 servings

i found them...

where *Me* said - at the bottom.  scroll down when you hear the buzzing.  it is a mosquito game thing to win a free something or other.  VERY annoying.

I just found them for as little as $5.....sm
on ebay under the search words of "alarm clocks with sounds"  and under the search words "sound machine" found them starting around $10.
I found a way to get rid of a doc if you are an IC. sm

Present with them a contract that they believe is just not realistic, that's how!  Get this.....I get a call last week from local internal med. doc wanting me to do their transcription. I MT'd for them briefly (2 days or so) a few years back and they remembered me, etc. I work FT for a co. at home, so I really wasn't interested. Office manager called me last Thur., Fri., Monday and I finally decided to do it on Tuesday. Went in, picked up tapes and basically said I'd do it until they found someone else.  The office isn't that close to me and with the price of gas, the fact that I have 2 little ones at home with me all day, just didn't seem feasible for me to pick up tapes, etc.  Okay, fast forward to today.

I decided last night that I would make them sign a 3 month contract b/c I've read horror stories here of unpaid docs and wanted to covery my butt.  Here is what I asked for in contract: 10 per 65 character line. Reasonable right?  How about 15 cents per 65 characters for stats or 12-hour or less TAT.  2.00 per faxed page.  And a few other things. But basically, they would rarely need anything but 24-48 turn around on tapes.

I also included my invoice from the tapes I've done so far and the total came to 589 lines. Nothing big.

Here is what this doc wants me to do: Count the lines manually using less than 1 inch margins on both sides. Use 11 font instead of 12 (thinking he will get more per LINE), come in 4 days a week.  HAHA Isn't he funny?  He is ESL who apparently had a newbie do his work for the past 2 years who counted her lines manually which I did just for fun.  I counted 240 lines when Word counted 589 lines.  What a joke.

So, needless to say, I'm not going to do it.  Can you believe this guy? He was complaining that "he doesn't make that much money...can you cut down on your rates?" OMG. This guy lives in a gated community for crying out loud!  I typed 27 patients in just one day. I doubt he's broke.  I wanted to tell him all he is SAVING by hiring an IC. Say he did sign a contract with me and I worked for him, he would pay me approximately 12,000 a year. Does he realize that if he had someone in-house that this same employee would cost him 30-40,000 in insurance, taxes, wages, etc?

I cringe just sitting here thinking about this cheapskate.  I feel sorry for the gal he's been 'screwing' for the past few years. She must have wised up!

Just had to vent!!

I have found them all to be different...sm

I have been using Meditech for my primary account for 10 years.  I dial directly into the hospital's system.  I have had other accounts that used Meditech. All systems are basically the same but they do have some differences that can be annoying when going from one to the other.  It also depends on what you have access to.  Do you have access to other reports and patient information?  Also, I believe each hospital can set the system to count the lines how they want.

I like Meditech, but like I said, I have been using it for 10 years.
