Best if you are doing long reports...sm
where you are not messing around a lot on the patient demographic screens. If you can just get into the body of the report and do some work, it's o.k. Also if you don't have a lot of formatting changes, i.e. bold, italic, etc. And it doesn't have a word Expander so you have to use Shorthand for sure. The nice thing about our Meditech account is the line count does count gross lines and blank lines - but I don't know if that is just the way our hospital is set up or not. Meditech is picked for its billing and accounting capabilities. By the time any one asks the transcriptionists about it, it is already a done deal.
long reports
I do independent medical exams, which are usually quite long, for insurance companies and legal firms. they are dictated by MDs for litigation cases. The shortest ones are 4-5 pages, and I have had some up to 70-80 pages, so don't just look to medical facilities but try attorneys and insurance companies also. the company usually contracts with only one or two providers to do their exams so you are doing the same dictator(s) constantly so you get to really know their terminology and style. Mine use standards PEs, standing conclusions, etc., so I get to use a lot of macros. Because they are long you usually have a longer timeframe to complete them, too. it's a good way to go.
LOL! You calls 'em as you sees 'em, girl!
.
Long reports that drone on and on....
it's terrible...I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the line counts, but it's only 9:40 in the morning and I already want to take a nap LOL.
I know this has been discussed before but how long does it take to relisten to reports that you have
typed. I know some people do that and some dont. So far I have done okay on QA but if I dont I was just wondering how much extra time per day you figure you need to relisten to reports. I usually do about 30 to 35 medium length reports acute care or 1800 to 2000 lines. What errors do you find mostly when you relisten or is it not worth the extra time it takes. Just curious.
How long should you store reports on your computer?
As a subcontractor, what is the appropriate amount of time to store transcribed reports on your computer before deleting them?
Psychiatric work or long reports
Does anyone work for/know of any companies that are hiring for psych work or any other long reports like memory disorders, or compensations? I have three years working with these and acute care. I would like to find long reports to do all the time.
Please write to my e-mail address
Thanks!
Long reports, dead air time

Does anyone have any good tricks for dealing with the long reports with huge segments of "nothing"?  On top of that, the people I am dealing with are ESLs so that's slowing me down enough already.

At this point, all I do is speed up and fast forward but am wondering if there are other ways to compensate for this issue.

Seems like someone would teach them how to pause when they stop dictating!

IC Question: How long do you keep your reports for your docs?

ICs, I was curious to see how long do you keep your reports on your computer for the doctors?  Is there a usual time limit?

Thank you!

I love those long reports. I think of them as free money.

It's just straight transcribing with no stopping to verify patient or physician information to start a new note.  I'll trade you for 1 minute long dictations by a little Russian guy?

I do understand the frustration at the duplication of information.  Then again, the copy/paste feature works great at giving more lines for free with no typing.  LOL  I always thought that if I could find a way to simplify the medical record while still utilizing MTs, I'd be rich.

I work whatever hours I want, as long as I have the reports back in TAT...
I have assigned doctors...
Love 'em or leave 'em
I don't have a real solution, but I have been known to log off of that account whenever I see this happen.  I then try to find work on one of the other accounts to which I am assigned, but there is often no other work available.  I conclude that the only choice is love 'em or leave 'em.  A private client might be nice, but that brings other headaches.
If U can't beat 'em join 'em
This is NOT the only industry that outsources and you are fooling yourselves if you think that it will stop.
Lucky. I love long reports. I thought I got a good one, but it was a 1.5 minute
report with 12 minutes of dead air. Sit here and do nothing. For free.
LOVE teaching hospitals and long-winded reports. Less ADT time which I'm not paid for.
Hate filling in ADT screens w/ searches just to do a one minute report.
to be honest, 30 mins may not be
But it depends on the breed. Some breeds need more physical AND mental exercise than others. I honestly can't see any breed being satisfied with only a half an hour of exercise a day NOT including walks. If you talk to any vet or trainer, they will tell you that dog walking is a critical part of a dog's life. It not only provides them with "potty time" and exercise but also provides them with daily structure and discipline. A dogs world is based on a "pack" and they look at you as their leader. Without that structure, they can become confused or rebellious, etc.
Anyway, in a nutshell, you really need to talk to a vet & get in touch with a trainer to learn how to solve your problem & how to properly train & take care of your dog. Best of luck.
I have had to wait maybe 15 mins before, that that was
the longest. They have helped me on all problems but 1, which was something other than my computer itself it turned out. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to go through everything, but I think the longest I have ever been on line with them has been 45 min. to an hour. Luckily, have had to use it with my new computer.
Normally figure anywhere from 3 to 5 mins
x
I am productive, but I am for 15 mins/2 hours sm
and truly, this does not drop my productivity any. I have an AI where I have rheumatoid-type symptoms. If I don't get up every couple of hours, I won't be able to get up. With this AI comes issues with energy, vision, hearing and vertigo...and pain, chronic constant pain. I find that work helps get my mind off of these things, but I have to take breaks.

I have been a power napper at my desk too, but that was when I was up at 2 a.m. to work, something I can no longer do because I can't sleep before 10 p.m. and that is only 4 hours. I find I focus better with at least 7 hours' sleep, better still with more like 8 to 9 hours' sleep. When I am working I DO NOT forget to eat, but I eat lightly, shun sugar, fat and starches which make me more tired and I lose focus. I munch veggies, rice cakes, bean spreads. I will start the day with fruit, followed by coffee which seems to get me up and running. I eat when I am up every couple of hours, but it is a small light snack. Sleep and food seem to be the clues to my being able to sit for those 8 hours.

I would also tell you that taking a day off on a Friday or Monday (or both) and having a long week filled with sleep, good food, being warm, comfortable and doing as little as possible can help burn out. I take bubble baths, sip a bit of brandy, snuggle in my bed with hot tea and reset myself.

I think being home working with the dishes and the laundry and the dust all calling your name causes work stress, a sort of dread and in the end, depression. If your family is around you too with noise, mess and friends, it creates more stress, dread and depression. Then, the cost of living goes up and up and up, but our line rates do not, so you find yourself pushing harder for less and less, more stress, dread and depression. In the end, you are probably like many of us, we don't remember to take care of ourselves!

So please, make time to take time for yourself. It doesn't have to cost...I use nice teas, bubble baths, body sprays, long walks, a small coffee at the coffee shop, giving myself a pedicure, putting linen spray on my pillowcases...creature comforts that lift the spirits. I can tell when I have been forgetting to take care of myself, I am down and a little sad, definitely tired.

The other thing I do is set aside $5 to spend on myself, frivolously, every paycheck. I work hard (as you do) and I deserve something for my efforts besides paid up bills. These are my incentive to work more and make more...I'd like a $10 goodie!
I have ATT, same problem, now have 7500 mins/mo for $300. Quit a bit. nm
nm
Yes, I am considered a business, I am IC and that is for 7500 mins/mo. nm
nm
You are really not that far off the average of 20 mins per hour of dictation. NM
s
Longwood, Florida. 20 mins from Orlando. NMsg
xxx
HOW can you do 180 mins. a day?? Where do you work that the sound and dictation are clear
n
And make sure Tools/Options, you check to save every 1 or 2 mins. nm

The MR reports were being filed. Referring physicians/medical care providers reports were not.
This is a hospital radiology department with in-house MTs and a clerk who is in charge of the report distribution.
The two sentence normal reports will balance out the 3 page reports.
I am Wendy too
Isn't that what causes 'em to sag?
:+
don't let 'em get to you, KB
As we teach our children, ignore it.
you tell 'em

Can you hear me clapping at this end and yelling BRAVO!!!  Right on!!!

Has anyone ever died from doing hanging indents?  I may be the first.  LET ME DO WHAT I NEED TO DO MICROSOFT!!!!!  (yes, I'm yelling).

Cut 'em off???
x
stump 'em
I'll never forget my first day of college when the instructor wrote on the chalkboard -- panhysterosalpingooophorectomy and said "You will know what this means by the end of the day!"  This is an easy one for us now, but back then it was like "Yeah, right."  This is one of my husband's favorite words to throw at people at parties, etc. -- and he even knows the correct meaning of the term!!  I hate when people say stuff like "Where can I find a job like yours, typing at home, I could do that no problem."  They think that if they can type, they can do our jobs.  I'd like to see 'em try.....heeheehee
CAN'T SHOOT 'EM....LOL.....NM

Sure looks to me like they are in India, in some shape or form....I hope this helps you....good luck, and let us know how it goes.
Tell 'em sister....

Do you see how fast the haters come here to say "big deal."  Any one of us can have our own accounts (I have 2 of my own).  I make the same as you round about $50.00 an hour.  What a relief because I also IC for an online company making 8 cpl (round about $20.00 an hour).  We can't sit around and complain; that accomplishes nothing.

BTW, I think 5 cpl for VR is good...  In case anyone cares what I think!  I just think it would be hard for me to learn the hot keys to make it go faster, but then again maybe I'd be quicker at it (20+ years in the biz).

Just let them drink their Hatorade and be haters all their lives!!!!

VR funnies - 3 of 'em

Cardiolite stress test which was negative for reversible skin.

HIDA scan negative for cystic duct or common bile duct obstruction with normal feeding of the gallbladder.

Ultrasound of the abdomen demonstrated a fatty liver but no evidence of a dietitian.

It's worth it...Git 'em!
I had one customer who tried to stiff me for some work I performed. I had all the paperwork in order, all the ducks lined up, etc. It was a amount somewhere near $1400.

I didn't go the SCC route at all. I filed a lien against the woman's home for the amount owed, the filing costs, and >>monthly late charges<< that had accrued up to the point of the filing of the lien. Then I waited for about 17 months or so.

When she found out that she couldn't sell her property until the lien was settled, SHE got in contact with me. She "offered" me her personal check (nyet) to settle the debt, but with her track record, I refused and would only take cash at that point in time.

She hemmed and hawed and tried to con me again, but I didn't budge, and the lien stayed put. She finally ponied up the cash, because she had to sell the house, and it couldn't be sold until the lien was satisfied.

I did lose in that deal, however. I forgot about the lien removal filing fee, so I was out $35, but I recovered the majority of the money owed.

You may just want to check out your state's lien laws.

You tell 'em girl!

stay off the porch!  Life is what you make it!  Only you can make it happen, not the President, not the Pope, and certainly not working for a national.  Some say they make boatloads off of a national, but they are hard workers that love to stay chained to the desk with no kids, (as I've seen posted) and no LIFE!  Get a grip people!  If this gal is thriving, let her thrive.  Why call her out for that?  Why?  She should be able to voice her opinion, and no I am not the poster above, I am a different poster before anyone even starts with that!

Good golly for you Miss Molly - you hit paydirt!      Some of us love this profession enough to make it work, and yes ma'am I've gotten my fair share and then some!  I am living the good life!

Give 'em the Beatles!
ALL little kids love 'em (seriously!). Give John, Paul, George & Ringo a try!
I love 'em too. I can dream, can't I?

If you hate 'em, verbatim!
xx
Oh yeah!!!!!! Keep 'em comin'!!!!!! nm
.
Gosh, I wish I loved OP, just can't do 'em
/
or just go in and be so obnoxious about "hang 'em all" that
no one WANTS you on their jury!  But don't get smart on the jury form. A guy in Florida got contempt in court and spent the night in jail along with a fine for writing on his jury form that he had been a mail bomber, etc.

Yeah, right. You go change 'em. LOL
:)

I so agree - ESLs once ya get 'em ya really

I happen to be very_good w/accents, also living in a very diverse area (and let's not forget, being an MT am we are also supposed to be excellent listeners)

what I think the OP doesn't get is ALL LANGUAGE commences in the heart - we are all the same - just *hearing* different words for much of what we all talk about on a daily level.....they say the similar things about similar issues ongoing in the world, and, instead of getting ALL freaked out when one *hears* an accent, my suggestion (unsolicited as it is) would be to try to become a better listener.

To the OP, about your hypothetical blurb telling them to *go back to their countries*...guess what?  Your relatives came from elsewhere, unless you're native American....and somehow I doubt that you are;

Would you have liked your ancestors to be told similar, holding that same exact thought as you, about they should all go back to their own countries?  hmmmmm?

Time to open the brains nice and wide to things that are different but ongoing all over the world 24/7/365....better late than never...I have some great ESL dictators and some not so great, but first and foremost have AMERICAN ANGLO mushmouths who just care less for the most part.....

Have a nice evening....

You gotta love 'em
I had a CNP who prounced epistaxis without the "s" - epeetaxis.  I won't even tell you what she did with some drug names.  The really fun one was when she stumbled three times over cerumen, never did pronounce it correctly and then spelled it for me.
Osmosis. Sleep with 'em under my head...
and absorb the knowledge. :)

Besides, this is way too fun.

Did you get the download? Now press "play".
They're great - give 'em a try!
Nicest company I've worked for in years - respectful, patient, plenty of work and they appreciate their employees. They're a breath of fresh air.
