I've got a 16-year-old daughter in band, similar round-trip situation. She is not allowed to ride with any of her friends until they've been driving at least a year and had their license at least six months.

Even then I'll only let her go around the area (we live in a small town). One of her friends, who is a more experienced driver wanted to take a road trip to Nashville, 80 miles away, and I said No Way.

Your child is worth more than the price of gas.
