white noise machine
I had a neighbor who had a dog who barked all night and also another neighbor who played music all night.  I bought a white noise machine for about $20.00.  I had a choise of ocean waves, birds chirping, rain hitting the house, thunder, so many more sounds and it worked..It would drown out the outside noises.I had tried ear plugs, calling the cops (the minute they left the dog and neighbor would start again), confronting the neighbors..nothing worked but the white nose machine..You can get one at any department store..
lets do it

PLEASE, lets drop this....

a key fob lets you into some place

I live in a huge complex and each building has their own electronic box (boxes) on every door that the owners/residents use a key-fob for to enter...the gym, any external door, business center, conference room, etc.

Is that what you're speaking of?  Something that is usually plastic and hangs on a keychain to allow entrance somewhere......

How to get job that lets you earn only up to

IF MQ LETS YOU GO, ARE YOU GOING TO REFUSE TO TAKE $$ FROM THEM?
Be honest.
DECREASE IN PAY!! LETS REBEL

they want to decrease our ME pay by 20%. we need to all be asked to go back to MTs and earn what we are worth

Lets ask Frank about spaces
Well, maybe all us MQ workers should send a friendly letter to Frank (isnt he still the CEO?)  and ask if we get paid for spaces.  I have been told in the past I do, however, I have noted a decrease in lines when switching to DQS and dont know where those lines went.  I have to work one to two hours more a day to make the same line count I made on Cottage, in the **good old days**..OMG, not paying for spaces?  Well, then maybe we should not space between words or sentences, cause it takes our thumb to hit the key board and know when to space, Im working here..It working to put in spaces..I should be paid!!..Or, okay, dont pay me for spaces, then pay me more for my lines and my intelligence and my knowledge of medical..
There you go, lets have a thread about old cars!!!
yeah.
GO PANTHERS !!! Made it once, lets do it again. nm

What version are you using? Mine lets me do that. sm
I checked to see if there was a setting you need to adjust, but could not find one. I use an older version 8.70b, and it lets me do that, but I know the older versions than what I have did not allow that.

Lets cut all cables to India! sm
You know, some other countries don't permit their citizens to access US websites because of salacious content.

I say, we should not be allowed access via the internet to ANY third world backwater where they are sending American jobs!!!!

We should also block content to said polluted backwaters if it involves employment in this country.

Keep America great, preserve our borders real and virtual. Keep American jobs for Americans and LEGAL immigrants.

umm yeah and please learn to speak English.
lets us know whether or not we need to open the post. NM

If the system lets you access old reports, you'll have

Lets bottom line this, say she leaves and goes to another company
What do you think would be her chances of them going to VR? Do you think it will go poof and disappear? Do you think refusing to take lower wages makes the companies take notice and reverse to go back to the golden days when we had really good salaries? Be willing to bet that next paycheck most would go along with their companies going to VR rather than changing, going to a new job only to find out the same thing happens there.
Well, lets hope they keep the regulars on their own accounts because the hospitals know who types
regularly in those accounts and how the work is and if there is no complaining from the doctors and all of a sudden when you start throwing a whole bunch of new backups in there and the docs start complaining the hospitals can look in those systems and see who is working and then they call and complain to the MQ office and some have threatened to leave if the situation doesnt get straightened out which means you go back to just the regulars that really know the hospital.
Lets try this again. With all the big nationals running us out or work and lowering our wages what
do you suggest.
Here I was worried about groceries. Lets worry about your stuff. Its easier.
;P
Lets hope it is not geared line count per hour the way we run out of work and are in so many
other accounts all the time. Boy that would be bad.
noise
Mine are skipping pingskip ingipsk gnippiks along with bzzzzzzzz shhhhhhhh rrrrrrrrum
Noise
I have Philips brand for around $60. Be aware that noise canceling may imply that they drown out exterior noise, but from what I've learned, it actually means that it clarifies the sound coming into the headphones of crackles, etc. I can still hear my household noises clearly. I was disappointed in that aspect. They are comfortably padded and large to fit over the ears, but they don't drown out my kids, phone, etc.
As for the noise
I was hoping that if we could pinpoint which cars it is coming from, we could call the police out however many times it takes to get them to give a warning, then fine, then jail, then so on.  This is disturbing the peace.  The police around this area don't like to have to come out more than once for the same problem.
noise
in most areas there is a noise cut off usually about 10 pm - after that call the police station - not necesssarily 911, just the station. Normally they will come out and quite them down. Good luck
must have noise
I would probably save a ton on electricity but I keep the TV on in the background. Have to have noise. It is also something to look at when aggravated by really bad dictators that like to long pause or hold conversations with others while dictating - and these are numerous to me.
I have to have noise
I have the TV on when I work. Of course I can also hear the TV in the other room and my daughter playing when she's not in preschool. At night when I'm all alone I have to have the TV on. I can't stand the quiet.
noise(sm)
I used to complain but after years of practice, I learned to get over it, and take the attitude of who else would do these jerks? Made me a lot of money. Carry on!
Let the machine get it.

CR machine
I have been using a CR machine to do medical transcription for seven years.  I use software that translates steno into English and "dumps" into any program, MS Word, Wordperfect, or whatever software a client may use.  I can use it to post messages or use messenger service, or to write emails, and yes it is MUCH more productive than typing, even using expanders.
Same machine?
Have you used the same laptop that whole time? If not, how long did each machine last? Do you work full time?
What is a C-machine?
What is a C-machine?
Thanks!
definitely get a fax machine

I got a Brother fax machine several years ago at Office Depot for around $80 or so.  I later got an HP all-in-one in 2005 at Sam's.  I don't remember what it cost, but it's worth it if you'll be faxing regularly.  Some of your clients may prefer a scanned version.

You could also compare on-line fax capabilities, which seems to be more current, for obvious reasons.  I can't remember the details, but I've heard it advertised on talk radio.

Just a thought.

ditto on the noise
your post made me laugh - i totally know, though, that it's not funny what you're going through because i've had the noise thing occur more times than I can count.

White noise sm
I have a small TV and Bose radio/CD player in my office.  I worked 30 years in a clinic setting and am just used to working with the sound of people around me.  I have remotes to those two things, plus remote for ceiling fan/lite and DVD player on desk, lol.  I think it might be time to get a universal remote.
I sometimes miss the noise of the sm
keyboard. I really liked the sound of the IBM wheelwriter. My kids use to say it sounded like shooting a gun when I would be in my office typing.
I concentrate better with a little noise

I have found my mind starts to wander if it is completely silent while I work.  I also tend to hear the birds and incidental outside noises and get distracted.  If I have the tv on with my back to it, it seems to keep me focused on my work.  I don't quite get it but it works for me.

noise machines
If I may jump in here, they are sometimes also clock radios with nature sounds, or you can buy just the "noises" alone.  Wal Mart sells them too and places line Linens N' Things.  I have one with a white noise button because I'm a light sleeper, and it works great.  Check the electronics dept.
Neighbor Noise
Any chance of selling your place and getting a little place in the country? We live far out and have high speed internet and only critter noise to deal with. Your hours are tough ones. Don't you hate those friends who call when they know you need to be sleeping and say, "I hope I didn't awaken you."
Me too, I can't stand noise.
When you say "clicks" can you describe? I am currently using the Compaq keyboard that came with the computer and it's the best so far with regard to "feel" layout, but its far from quiet. I'm not looking for total silence necessarily, but very very quiet (laptop like) would be outstanding.

Anyone? Anyone? Ferris?
