USB is the same

The VEC on the Bayscribe setting is to differentiate it from an olympus foot pedal which is the other option.  Try choosing that option instead and see if it works. 

Have you talked to Chris at Landmark?  He's their tech support (and the owner).  If you haven't talked to him, put it away for tonight and call him in the morning and see if he can help you trouble shoot it.

Sorry I don't have any better ideas.  I hope you get it working.
