operating system not found.;;
Does the bios recognize the harddrive? did you try a bootdisk from bootdisk.com? Also if the harddrive is okay, and win98 (what operating system are you using?) is corrupted, you will need a win98cd or you will need the restore disk that came with the computer
Easy for what operating system?
That trick doesn't work with my Vista computer.  Try again.
operating system question(s)

I have been advised recently that my doctor has purchased a new dictating system that will not work with Windows XP Home Edition, and that I will have to purchase Windows XP Pro Edition in order to continue tyiping for this doctor.

I've done some brief research to see if there is an upgrade from Home Edition to Pro Edition, and I haven't found one.  I'm pretty sure there probably is no upgrade, as they appear to be 2 different OPs.   I'm pretty sure I'll have to purchase the Pro Edition full install.  Now, when one changes operating systems, doesn't that entail having to reinstall all other software, quickwords, macros, templates, etc.?

Actually, with a call to Microsoft, the OS--operating system-- SM
Can be reinstalled on the same computer, in the event of a crash or need to reinstall because of a crash or just cleaning up the computer by reinstalling the OS, or the change to a new motherboard or hard drive, etc. I'm not too knowledgeable on this, but on other IT web sites IT professionals routinely re-install for a fresh system and they CALL the Microsoft # for reauthorization. At least on XP. Which is the way it should be. If my computer crashes, it is still the same computer and the same OS I paid hundreds of dollars for in some cases, so yes, you can install on the same computer. THere would be a mutiny off Windows if you could not. ANd they know this. They ran into this with Vista and had to back down. Computer professionals routinely re-install for a fresh system or when a computer has difficulties.

Don't correct my mistakes on grammar and caps, i didn't proof.
MS does not produce a new operating system every year, trust me on that.

Vista was 5 years in the making, which is pretty much the norm for most reliable Software.

Help with "no operating system found" message sm
Laptop with Windows XP shows "no operating system found" - desktop working. Did this before and comes back with turning on and off, went into "setup" and shows I have so many MB stored on hard drive but cannot get system to boot, misplaced XP CD. This time I cannot get it to come back and depend on laptop at end of day to research, e-mail, etc., as desktop for too many hours is too painful. Any way to get the Windows XP to start up so I can do a system restore to an earlier time? Perhaps an update did this. It is "dead" but everything is still on there, lots of "good stuff" - a Dell so no one else will touch it and I can't get online with them as my other computer is not a Dell.

message re. "no operating system found"
No warranty- a client co. added some software to the XP which was very expensive, i.e., voice, lots of extras I used for over 2 years, "loaded" and it did this to me before but was able to get it back by unplugging, restarting several times. No one else will touch a "Dell" and that co. is closed.  After several "hundred" times I can only do an "F2" and it shows me there is a hard drive with several MB of stuff on there but won't load it, tried everything in the system - hate to lose all this "good" stuff. Is there any way I can transfer my XP from my desktop or run the laptop from my desktop somehow. I think if I could get a startup menu and choose a time to restore it to, like last month or something, I could use it and stop any further "updates" which really mess up things. Gosh, I loved my laptop as it is not "painful" to use and I do have such back pain at end of day, but then I am preaching to the choir about back pain and this job, aren't I? Hate to give up on it when I know there are some good programs on there. Sorry for the rant, I have let this "take over my life" trying to get it to work again. ***$#!**  Thank you!
A computer's OS (operating system) is only meant for a 1 time install on 1 pc. People like yours

who abuse this are just looking for a cheap break, jack up the price (theoretically speaking) for the rest of us, and are asking for a myriad of problems on their pcs.  To deter this behavior, about 1 year ago, many computer companies ceased to include all software when packaging the pc for shipment.  It is because of software abuse/misuse, computers that are delivered with a pre-installed OS are delivered without the OS + other necessary software, due to behaviors such as yours and many others.  However, if you call the company and verbally request all software: OS (installation CD), as well as other necessary software (tools systems, drivers, diagnostics, utilities, print driver, internet security, and WP/Word/Excel, et al), they will gladly send it to you free of charge.

Does your word processing program
have "search and replace" feature? That should do what you want.
I bought a Vista-loaded system and I have tried to
work now for several companies but Vista is incompatible with their platforms.

I HATE IT.

Please let us know if your software is compatible with Vista and thank you.

It seems that companies would hurry up and get compatible with Vista, as they would have more choice in MT's in their hiring process.

MS Word not separate (SM)
MS bundles Word with their MS Office product. Previous companies I have worked for had MS Word alone on a generic disk. As far as I know, none of them are in jail yet.

OpenOffice.org provides a program that rivals MS Office. You can download it for FREE from their site. If you are doing this for work however, I don't know that it would be compatible with platforms you would be using - I'd say probably not.

Should you need to purchase MS Office so you can have MS Word, check out newegg.com. I know with operating systems such as Windows XP, you can buy versions that computer builders use - no fancy packages, just a disk and a license - for significantly less than what you'd pay for an off-the-shelf product at say Staples. Don't know if you can do the same with Office. Check out CNet.com for reviews. CNet.com also has forums where you can post a question and an Editor will answer you.

Good Luck!
You might have to do a system restore to the time before she sent file. Vista is still too buggy

Instant Text software and Windows Vista
I purchased Instant text software about 6 months ago.  I have a new computer now with Windows Vista and while the software worked properly on Windows XP, in order to install the software on Vista I was told by the company turn off my user account control and if I do that my software platform I-Type will not let me in to link the program to it.  Anyone have a clue?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks everyone!
A majority of the software used IS Word based, or do you just want to use Word by itself? nm

WORD AND VISTA
Is anyone familiar with which MS WORD program is compatible with VISTA...I just ordered a new laptop and currently have MS Word 2000 and am wondering if it will be compatible with Vista or will I have to purchase MS Word 2007? Any responses are highly appreciated.
New puter with Vista - need Word!
Has anyone needed to buy Word 2003 on their new Vista computer to handle their client's documents?  Is it compatible?  I need to make a decision if I'm to use their "Works" program installed (will have to pay $300 at the end of the trial period) or just go ahead and buy Word 2003 and Excel on my own.  Thanks for any 2c.  I need to decide Today, so I can start transcribing again next week!!   Happy Easter..
Vista/Word problem...
thanks so much!!
vista and word 2003
I have seen ads on ebay I think. Where are you getting your computer and are you getting it with XP and then putting on word 2003?
vista & word 2003
Thank you very much.  I want to make sure everything will work together before I go out and spend all that money on equipment.  Thanks.  Merry Christmas.
Word expander for Vista?
Anyone suggest a good word Expander for Vista for not too much money?  TIA
Word Perfect and Vista - anyone know which
Thank you in advance!!!
I have Vista and Word 2007..

and fortunately there is no conflict with either at the company I work for.  I know how you feel though; knowing what I know now I would not have "upgraded" from XP or Word 2003 when I got my new computer.  Good luck.

Word 97 thru 2007 can be run on vista.

Word Expander for Vista - Fast Fox? Anyone?
Any opinions on Fast Fox for Vista?  Noticed it is on sale for $19 for the month of March.  Anyone use it?  For XP I have been using ShortHand but just can't afford it right now.
What Word program works best with Vista? Has to be less than 2007. nm

Word 97 thru 2007 all work fine on Vista.

I'd work in Word and cut and paste into their system. SM
Ask them if you can type it in Microsoft Word and then cut and paste (copy the Word document and paste it into their system).

It is not feasible to work without a spell checker. Word has a pretty good spell and grammar checker and there is no reason to do without it.

See if their "tech" department can come up with a macro to copy the text of the Word document and paste it into their program. Or, you could create a Word macro and paste it into their system. Either way. There is an excellent Macro recording program called Macro ToolWorks which is free for 30 days and then $40.00 that can duplicate key strokes and mouse movements, and could copy the document, go to their program and paste it in. They you'd just hit one button, like the Ctrl button plus a number. Their tech department should only take one or two days to come up with some solution.

Good luck. I just would not work without Word spell checker and also Steadman Medical Spell Checker. Essentials to any production typing job. Good luck !
Check out CoPath. It is a word-based system.

word expander software
Anyone know of any good ones.
Word Autocompletion Software
Do any MTs use any of the word autocompletion software for MT work?  Is there a medical one that works for MT work?  Thanks
I believe Olympus is a dictation system, not a program such as Word or Meditech - sounds to me like

C-Phone +word versus software progam
I need opinions please.  On which can you get a better line count?  Thinking about switching companies.  TIA
C-phone + Word versus software program
What I'm trying to say is that it seems more time consuming to use a C-Phone and Word rather than a software program because everything is just a click away with a program, whereas with a C-phone and Word you have to dial in, do paperwork, send work through e-mail, create templates, etc, etc.  Seems much more efficient to use a program thereby saving time and making more $$$.  (You can probably tell I'm still fairly to this). TIA
The majority of the software proggies are Word based. You

Electronic spellchecker and line counting software for Word 07

Does anyone know of any line counting software and electronic medical spellchecker that works in Word that is out there for Word 97.  I just upgraded to Office 2007 and my abacus does not do the same and I really don't like it in the standalone version and also my Dorland's electronic medical spellchecker will not even install on this version of Word.  Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions.  Please help as I have to have this to do my job.

Thanks so much

Please name a post office processing
We are talking about handling mail for the US postal service. Not any other entity. Inmates are not allowed to handle mail anywhere in the United States. It is absolutely forbidden by the federal government.  Name a center where inmates handle mail.
Did you check your processing speed?
I would see how fast your processing speed is through your internet company. My eScription got really slow for a while and the cable company came out and replaced something and now it is super fast. I have an "older" computer too. Pentium III, 797 MHz, 384 MB of RAM.
data processing...medical charges
okay, so I've been doing medical data processing for a clinic for the past four months and the office lifestyle is NOT for me. Does anyone have information on work at home medical billing? I sure would like a nudge in the right direction. Thanks!
They hand your credit card #'s when processing orders - why not mail?
It is common knowledge inmates work by processing internet and catalog orders. They hand credit card numbers every day. How can you even trust to place an order anymore, not knowing who is actually processing your order? It is surprising what inmates are allowed to do. Some live better than us behind bars!
Pay their own operating cost sm
This is not for the MT to pay for heaven sakes, this is the MTSO operating expenses, (the cost to do business, it is THEIR CLIENT) It is all a bunch of bull and the MTs are thinking, well--ll okay-yyyy I guess.
Operating with only one beater in the bowl.

DOS is a pre-Windows operating sytem, it isn't
a platform.  I currently use WP5.1, which is DOS based.    It is difficult to find compatible software sometimes.  Stedman's Spellcheck is no longer available for DOS.  There are some Expanders that are not compatible with DOS.
I'm with you, we're all still human beings operating these
It doesnt hurt to say a few words on behalf on someone at the other end.  If you don't have that within yourself, and you don't need it in return, you're a cold and lost person.
