I use a Dell Vostro with Editscript.  I use the keyboard instead of the footpedal.  Take it to the coffee shop and library.   Use Bose noise-canceling headphones.  I use it as an editor, not a transcriptionist.  Hope this helps.

My Vostro has 1024 MB of RAM and 1 GHz. Yes, I am very happy with it.
Vostro notebook (sm)

Pros, cons, any other info welcome.  Thank you!

I was looking at the Vostro 1000 (sm)

not a bad price, was told by Dell 30-day money back guarantee and they'll pay to have it shipped back if not completely satisfied.  Sounds like an unbelievable deal.

Dell Vostro
I cannot really say about the sound quality, but I have a friend who very recently purchased a Vostro and it has already crashed. He had to do a disk cleaning and reinstall everything after only a couple of weeks. I think, however, that with a Dell you can order a SoundBlaster card. In my experience that has been the best sound available.
