WP5.1 on 3.5 diskettes

Candy: Is there a little 3.5 hard disk drive on your present computer? Really you don't need those original diskettes, just need to create a directory and install your files, that you have saved to a CD. If your program is working now, then a "backup copy" you create to protect yourself on a CD will be absolutely reliable. And you shouldn't have a problem using WP5.1 on an XP computer if you use Edward Mendelsohn's great instructions. The only thing that does not work with XP is the OLD Stedman's Electronic Medical Dictionary, I don't mean the newer one or the spell check, just the stand-alone dictionary that opened up with the word your cursor was on when you invoked the dictionary. That one can't be used, but certainly Stedman's Plus Spellchecker, works great, Smartype works great, etc. etc. So just make a backup CD (or two if you're a worry wart) for your files and keep it in a safe place.

What you might not be able to find down the road would be some of the paperback handbooks with the hints for using WP5.1. I don't think they are listed on ebay very often and now NEVER in the bookstores.

P.S. I just started using Word in Sept. of 2006, and had used all versions of WP since 1976, so I understand your concerns. As long as it works, don't fix it, and that really applies to this super program.

If you want to talk more about WP5.1, drop me a note to Wise.MT@gmail.com.
