I get 4 cpl for editing and between 8.4-10 for straight typing nm

my VR pays 4 cpl for editing and 8.4-10 cpl for straight typing.
That includes all the lines on the page, even if I don't have to edit some.
    150 wpm straight typing.....sm
In high school 1st quarter typing I was doing 70 wpm, by the end of the 1st year of typing in high school I was at 100 wpm.  At the end of the 2nd year of typing I was averaging 140 wpm.
Are you asking for VR or straight typing?
VR will give you much higher line counts but not at 7-10 cpl.
    Straight typing please (nm)

For those who have gone from straight typing to VR...
What sort of training did you get?  What sorts of things did you wish you'd gotten for training?  Thanks :-)
I have straight typing in there as well
so that pay is higher and I have speed on fast forward. If you have the speed, probably can do the 3000 or better a day. I set the goal for myself at 3000 so I would bring home what I wanted every 2 weeks.
    Is this straight typing....
    What exactly are you typing?
so what would average be per pay period on straight editing
    s
    Pretty much straight typing.

Getting paid only for STRAIGHT TYPING

My company set me up to work from home - - - I am new at this and confused and am need of imput from others in the field. Currently I get pain 8 cents per line.  I have a quota of 7,000+ lines a week - -however the computer I have been set up with does not enable me to add programs (if I wanted to add a word expansion program) and, interestingly, the ability to set up macros in MS Word has been disabled.

With that said - - - For example, I will type a new consult on a patient that ends up being 4 pages in length.  I want to "work smarter and not harder" (who doesn't) so I incorporate word Expanders that I have in MS Word Auto Text as well as an Auto Text "intial office visit" outline which includes the doctor's "normal" exam.  All I have to do are make any necessary changes with each individual patient.  We use a nationally known dictation program/softwear which enables me to go to a "statistics" screen to see the line count for each document I have typed.  I have been finding, however, that on these 4 page consults, I am only being credited for 60 lines or so - - - aren't there 65 lines PER PAGE - - -why is it not 4 times that amount??  Looks like I am only getting paid for STRAIGHT TYPING, not for the total line count of the end product.

She says it's straight typing, expanders only,

Do you make $$ with VR or straight typing?

I am a slow typer so I was wondering if maybe I should be doing VR instead of straight typing.  Any thoughts on this from anyone who is a slow typer?

    Thanks

I just don't see how it is possible to produce 3800+ straight typing in a day
I'm not saying you didn't.  I just don't see HOW.  I'm a pretty high producer myself, but I worked with a national once that didn't pay spaces and my line count dropped from 1700 lpd to 1100.  How in the world do you manage 3800+ with no spaces?
Who prefers VR and who refers straight typing? nm

    xx

Hi, Trying. You're basically right about the straight typing, I think. SM
But as eScription learns to handle the practitioners' dictation, the product you are presented with is more and more an already-typed document and your job is to edit that. Speedy fingers are still helpful, but production also depends on ability to read quickly, recognize and correct technical errors quickly (potassium 45 to 4.5) and decide on necessary grammar/punctuation changes quickly. I have the dictation speed pumped up as high as I can manage to drop in periods and caps and so on and still keep up with.

It will take a while for the practitioners and computer to get in the groove, though, and for some months the documents will come through in various degrees of mess, some good and some awful that you're just slogging through. During this period you guys are working to train the computer through your corrections feedback. The company I work for dealt with this by paying us full transcription rates for editing during the worst of this. Since editing production is a lot higher than transcription, though, the pay per line drops to reflect this. In our case, to half, but I still make more now because I can edit more than twice what I can type.

For that and for the work itself, I really like editing and would hate to go back to transcribing full time (a small percentage is still transcribing physicians who aren't willing to make the few adjustments needed to accommodate the computer's needs). And you're really fortunate in your hospital's choice because eScription/EditScript (the part you work with) is a wonderful program, easy to learn and work with. Best wishes. And have fun!
Question about lines - straight typing to....

    Hi,

I have a job currently where I basically am straight typing the dictation without an Expander program except for the basics, stuff like patient and high blood pressure.. Not really that much..  I currently type on average 185 lines per hour.  what do you think that equates to typing with an expander.  I know its not an exact science or anything but I am trying to gauge how much I can expect as it will likely influence my decision on the different jobs.  Anyone know how much their productivity increased with a good expander program?

so this doesn't equate to .09 straight typing like...
they promise? i'm trying to see how i can make a living at that pay; it sounds like minimum wage or less (my poor hands :(
FYI - I produce high quality reports because I
take the extra time to make sense of garbage that is dictated.  I'm saying that I will not do it from now on.  It averages about $10 to $11/hr to make "high quality."  It has gotten to this point because people like you let MTSOs walk all over them because you feel it's "your job." ---  Ya know what ---- Keep your job, I'm outta here ---
bunk ... What you're suggesting is only do a high-quality job
What a sad perspective you have.

Being a high-producer is a good thing, but so is quality,
and by doing more and more high-quality work for less and less per line, we are cheating ourselves. The work is the same. Just because we can do more of it (regardless of software, etc.) doesn't mean that each line is worth less. The big companies are cheating us.
RE: I used to work for Freedom Type - VERY nice people - didn't do VR, just straight typing (nm)

MR has little to do with dictating and typing or editing, ...sm
it is point and click by the doctors on their little computer they carry from patient to patient in the hospitals or it is in the doctor's clinic.
you will be editing a completed ASR report vs typing

I was taught two spaces in high school typing class
places want only one space. BOS (pg 66, 2nd Ed) says either/or but be consistent, and that it is usually is set by company/client, but I've definitely noticed that most MTSOs want only one space and that's how I always do it now.
Well, notify the academic world, too! Typing classes in middle and high schools
    LOL

I think it was just rumored that Star and Elisabeth may be leaving (sm)
but, yeah, if you are right.....it will be the beginning of the end if they lose 3 rather than just 1. IMO.
Hahah!a! Funny typo: not quality 'scAre', quality 'scOre'. LMAO!...nm
    nm
I think that depends on the quality. Do you honestly think there is good quality just throwing every
MT on any account like they are. I also think QA has been told to not waste a lot of time on blanks so I think the hospitals are getting a lot more blanks. I certainly have more when I get in a hospital I dont know and they talk 100 miles an hour.
I thought quality was a given. Speed and quality are not mutually exclusive. sm

I maintain 99% accuracy above on my reports.  However, the original question was regarding personal preference, and I have stated mine, and I respect your opinion as well.  :-)    I do think if I was working in an office or hospital setting, the setup you mentioned might be more profitable in the long run.  There are too many interruptions and such when you have other people running in and out, phones ringing, etc.

I doubt that anyone but me really cares about the lines per hour it takes for me to do a report.  They just want an accurate report in a timely manner.  I take pride in my work, and would never just slop something out for the sake of the almighty buck.   And, as an added incentive, I work for 2 companies, and one of them has my name on each report.  I don't have a problem with it, but I did think it was a bit unusual at first.

Oh well ... I must confess that what I'd TRULY like is to be paid lots of money to just sit and play Battle Phlinx on Pogo all day long, but as of yet, no such luck.

I found out a long time ago that there are two kinds of editing.. one is editing MTs work (like QA)
and the other is editing as in VR. I have done VR editing, but when I put down this as experience on a resume, I was asked by the HR person if this meant that I had "edited" other MTs work. I think there is a lot of confusion out there and I wish they would just keep that as QA instead of calling it editing. Just be clear in what you want to edit as most companies that expect you to "edit" other MTs in a QA position do require you have a lot of experience. If you just going for VR editing, which is what Transcend has available and there are a few companies out there doing VR, none of which I think really require much experience as it is easy to learn. Hope I made some sense and it can be pretty confusing on how companies use the term "editing" thus it effects their expectations as far as experience goes.
Editing is the higher skill. I earn more editing SM
because I'm able to produce more--if the company doesn't adjust the way production's figured down and down again to keep the account from going elsewhere (when that happened to me on EditScript with no explanation of why my income was dropping, I went elsewhere also).
No, I just was finished with my break and had to
get back to work. VPN is not connecting and I'm on hold with tech support.

There are a few things that would make me leave: A really harsh line rate cut for the same work; being forced to be an employee with a set schedule are two reasons that come to mind immediately.
OMG! Just finished listening to a doc with the -
next thing to laryngitis!  What a treat that was!
    oops - sent before I finished ...
Now for 2007, they are planning to start sending 20% of our local plant's work overseas. Twenty percent of my little town's factory workers from this place will be out of a job. This is just the start.

    Finally finished, no dead air.

Just finished. Took an hour. No blanks. Going to
    and drink a beer lol
36+ years. I wish I had finished my Masters. sm
The field is changing. I would never recommend it.  I do not see a bright future.
    Just Finished Treatment for Sciatica

I was diagnosed with sciatica/piriformis syndrome about a month ago. My physiatrist sent me to physical therapy for Graston therapy and iontophoresis. I was to the point where I had to sleep in my recliner with a heating pad on my hip. Of course, this is the result of sitting for too long......a battle wound common to the medical transcriptionist.

The Graston therapy is pretty painful and you really wonder how it could possibly help. The iontophoresis consisted of a patch with two large circular pads connected by an electrode. The pads are soaked with dexamethasone. The patch is then stuck to the butt for 24 hours. It's painless, except I pulled off a couple of layers of skin when I removed them. I had this done about 5-6 different times over a three-week period. I was also taught some gentle stretches to stretch these muscles, which I haven't been too diligent about doing.

Bottom line is that I completed my PT about two weeks ago and I haven't had any pain since then. I hope you get some relief for your condition. I know how very painful it can be.

    Just finished 150 minutes today
    Still have 30 to go.
    Just finished jury duty....
Ended up getting almost as much reimbursement for jury duty as I would have working, when mileage was figured in. Only had to be there 2 days, so it wasn't a hardship. Met some interesting people and was overall a positive experience. I was VERY reluctant, but was glad I did it.
My SIL finished a course at a local college

She got a job on-site and could be sent home, but she has decided to cross-train for a management position.  If she takes it, the salary is $65,000.00 per year.  So tell me there isn't money in this business.  She just finished her course!!!

    try this product...sm

I've used a product called OdoBan....I buy it at Sams but it's available at the supermarkets too.  It can be used for a whole lot of odor-causing problems.  I use it for pet messes, and no more smells.  Maybe this would help.  Good luck...I couldn't stand to smell that all day.

    Wait. I misunderstood. MS4 = student, a Mr. - R4 = MD, but not finished SM
    with residency in his specialty.
My son just finished is enlistment..best thing that every happened to him..I sent them my son..they

Do they hire people that haven't finished their MT course yet?
I'd like to know what kind of test they give people, folks who have barely even started the transcription portion of their MT course, yet they're being hired as MTs. Gives us all a bad name.
I just finished training, which I thought was GREAT! sm
The platform is EXText, although I think they have others. I like the way they seem better organized than other companies I've tried. I'll let you know about the 2-week honeymoon period whether the "marriage" will last or not!
My niece is a product of IVF (sm)
I remember only too well my sister-in-law's tears as she and my brother-in-law (husband's brother) struggled to have their first child.  Finally, they tried IVF and had their first daughter, my niece and my Godchild.  She just made her First Communion a couple of weeks ago.  They had two more girls after her, both through IVF.  (They are 7, 5, and 3).  I know those 3 little girls are so adored.  Mom and dad are going to be paying that debt down for quite a while, but I know that they, and I'm sure everyone who has gone through the same, will say that it was worth it.
I would try a product called Out
It is available in both the pet care and baby care sections of Wal-Mart. I use it for pet accidents (puppy not trained yet) by pouring it directly on the spot after soaking up the spot first, allow to soak a few minutes and then blot it up -- works great that way, but I also now add it in when using my Hoover steamcleaner, and gives a fresh scent to the whole room.
Do you have a product number on this? Some way to
    p
Yes. This is an excellent product.
