What I did

A doctor's office called asking some general questions,  I answered.  I then called back and asked if I could drop by with a brochure, business card, references/examples, etc.  I did and talked with one of the docs and office manager.   Just 5 minutes, showed them some examples -- I have a binder of samples -- told him who my present clients were, etc.   Then I followed up with a plate of cookies and a thank you note for their time.   They called a week later and I got the account, six years later still have it.  They pay on time, gross lines at 11.5 cpl, lots of letters and consults so I average $45 to $50 an hour, 11,000 lines per month  with 20 to 25 hours per month.  So it worked out for me.  And yes they do get cookies occasionally.
