When she began e-mailing me with EDITING questions, I answered the first couple of times, but then I just said one time that I was not going to have time as I was working on a deadline on some of my other work. Whether you are an IC or an employee, if you are spending time training/educating other MTs you should be compensated. The only way I would do it without direct compensation is if I were training someone to work for me, and that would be, of course, with the hope/expectation that there would be an eventual pay-off.
I like to help here on the Word Board when others have questions, and, likewise, have received plenty of help here as well. That I don't mind and actually enjoy because it is more like a group of friends here. I will look for things others are asking if I don't know the answer, and I enjoy learning new things that way and just from reading other posts/answers, but if someone is making a buck and requesting my services, then I want my piece of the pie too.
