What companies provide computers? Hospital is outsourcing all transcription and I am out of a job..

in about two months.  I lost my computer and reference books in a house fire and can't afford to replace the computer until I get my tax refund back or until my homeowners insurance co. gets their act together which ever comes first!

This is the second time I've lost an in-house hospital transcription job to outsourcing and have decided if you can't beat 'em, join 'em and so I want to go back to working at home.  What are the best companies to work for that provide equipment and are fair regarding line counts (i.e. count spaces and don't short MT's on lines) and have balanced accounts (accounts that have a fair ESL to EFL dictator ratio) to work on?

I have 13 years experience as an MT and I am desparately looking for a company to call home for as long as they will have me!  I worked at home for a couple of years, but never could find that perfect fit.  My new year's resolution is find a job I love working from home, and forget all about last year!

Thanks!

Do MT companies have to provide for the visually impaired ?

I have a medical problem that has caused some vision problems and I find it extremely difficult to differentiate between words in the spell check programs with Stedman's spell check as well as Emdat's and even the Data Field areas, cc and comment section on Emdat's platform.

Are these companies and/or software manufacturers required by law to accommodate those with such an impairment??? I have no idea if I might have some legal rights here.

My husband bought me a large LCD monitor for Christmas which helps me a lot. I have enlarged the font size and everything works extremely well in Word, using Internet, Outlook, etc., but there appears to be no way to enlarge the type for these spell checkers. I am SO concerned that I am going to accidentally choose a wrong word due to my not being able to see things clearly. I am very careful in my proofreading and re-listen to all my dictation as my way of proofing just to be sure as I feel it is necessary.

I sure would appreciate any info/feedback you may have to offer.  Thanks so much.

So they provide equip but NOT transcription? Their advertisement is very
When you see the popup ad at top of page it says "Medical Transcription 1/cent a Line"

Any good companies that will provide a free computer??

Are there any good MT companies out there that will provide a free computer and the software, supplies I will need?? I am a canadian MT living in canada. They also must hire outside the USA. IF anyone knows of such a company (that pays at least 12 cents per line too!!)- please email. Thanks!!!!!

Stolen computers from the VA Hospital------
Did you hear about the two different workplaces getting their computers stolen?  Someone from the Veterens Hospital brought a computer home to their house and then is was stolen.  It has at least 50,000 name of Veterens whose medical conditions and personal information was on it.  The news said the  diagnostic codes are universal and can be easily read.   Someone else was on a plane and their laptop was stolen which had Stop and Shop employees info on it.    Then at a college in CT someone broke into the computer system and they are not sure what was taken so they sent a letter to anyone who was associated with that college in the last8 years even if you got a letter because you were inquiring about that college  and so my daughters  had to call the credit bureau to warn them because my two daugters are associated with that college.
What can companies see on our computers?
I have my own computer with company software loaded on it. While I am connected to the company's VPN, can they tell what sites I am surfing to and other things I do on my computer?
Surprised hospital at outsourcing price

I work as an IC for a rural hospital, when I asked for a raise after 10 years they started looking to outsource.  Well, they got a big surprise!  They would have had to pay three times what I was getting paid.  They did settle for a measely raise.  Stick to your guns.

I am curious as to why you aren't going with the company the hospital is outsourcing too??

I provide the template, I don't provide the headings though.
but I do pay them for everything that they transcribe. So, the MT has the initial template, they fill in the demographic fields, the body of text, cc information, etc. and that's what they are paid for. The body of text that the MT transcribes would include headings such as Subjective, Objective, etc., however the actual template that includes the logo, wording such as Patient Name, Date of Service, Attending Physician, etc. are not paid for. The template consists of about 8 lines total.
Hospital transcription

A customer of mine called me the other day to let me know about a diagnostic imaging opening at a hospital and she told me the benefits are around 300.00 for child and spouse added.  I would rather pay something like that than to have to put up with this woman.  The pay starts out for bottom line 10.06 an hour, maxing out at 15.09 an hour.  I am really thinking about getting into coding too.

Thank you all again for listening to me.

New to hospital transcription
Hi,
I was wanting to get some advice from some people who have done hospital transcription before. I am new to it. I have done clinic transcription for 9 years mainly family practice and the doctors that I have done have been for the most part really easy going and are not too particular about grammar and so forth, but I have just gotten an IC position for a local hospital and was wondering how difficult it is. I have always heard that it is really hard to do. How much difference is there between hospital and clinic transcription and what is it that makes it so much more difficult. Any advice would be gladly appreciated. I am really nervous and I need this job and I want to be able to do it. Thanks in advance.
that's what these companies do, outsource from clinic/hospital

No more radiology transcription at my hospital
The medical center I worked for did away with radiology transcriptionists a few years back. They came up with "canned" reports and VR and have ZERO radiology transcriptionists. They also cut back on their xray lab/medical record clerks by installing a PAC (sp?) system as well.
Yup, just like transcription companies, right?
And they start off so sweet and full of lies --- please let's not blame the poster. She's asking for opinions on her current situation - not asking us to judge her past decision-making. You sound like my mother - God rest her soul.
Transcription Companies
I recently tested for a part-time job with one of the companies listed on mtjobs. The test was easy and I had it typed and back to the company within half an hour. I received an email late yesterday stating that my score was very high but there were others who scored higher and they would be getting the posted jobs but that they would keep my resume on file.  Now the problem is, I was only looking for PT work.  I have a FT job where I've been at the same company for 6 years and am a team lead and senior Editor plus I have over 20 years experience in the transcription field. I know I do quality work and I correct a multitude of errors everyday all while keeping within the accuracy range that my company requires. I am just a bit disturbed that they have the nerve to tell me my score was very high but not high enough.  What were they expecting a grade over 100? My other guess is is that they probably only had one job to fill and it went to somebody's aunt or sister....I have really come to the point where I feel the transcription industry is going downhill fast and I like other people on this board are past ready to jump ship and get a real job...
How many different transcription companies
My very first MT job was subcontracting for someone else, so counting her, I've had 6 in my 7-1/2 years in the business.

I've been looking to get out of the MT business as well, and when I try to list all employers for the last 10 years, I look like a job hopper. I hate it.

Most days I hate my current MT job too. There are so many ESLs and so few non-ESLs or good dictators. It's so frustrating and time consuming just to try and make a decent line count!
transcription companies
I think I'm on my third transcription company since 2005. Just trying to move up with each one.
Do you work in a hospital or a Transcription Service
Office? It is a hospital there should be a manager that you can go to or an administrator. Production is key in hospital work, and it is important you have the quiet you need to produce.
On-call transcription in a small hospital

I work for a very small rural hospital with only two full-time transcriptionists and one part-time transcriptionist.  We have recently been told that the administration of our hospital is entertaining the idea of on-call Transcriptionist for uncovered hours.  We already work alternating Saturdays (day shift only).  I wanted to know if any other hospitals out there do on-call transcription (Not from home and not outsourced).  They want us to physically drive in and be in the office to do this transcription.  Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I agree - Do it for all the transcription companies...
or don't do it at all...

Which companies allow satellite transcription?

Just curious, are there companies who just hire ER MT?? I just left my hospital position due to voi

How do I find out if a local hospital's transcription is done in-house or not?
Can someone please give me some advice?  I am trying to find out if one of our local hospitals has in-house transcription or what company they use for their transcription.  I called the MR Dept. and the lady acted like she did not want to tell me anything.  She said some was done in-house but most of it was done electronically and would not elaborate as to what company they used.  How can I go about finding out who does their transcription for them.  I never see any actual job opening in the MR Dept. or for transcription for them, so I am assuming they outsource most to a transcription company.
I would like to get on with the hospital or possibly the company who handles their transcription.
I have been considering working locally instead of for a national or switching to another company from the company I currently work for. Since losing my initial primary account and having to switch to another account, my income has declined and it doesn't appear to be getting any better. Not sure why, it is not from my lack of working. I just can't seem to make the counts on this new account as I could on my previous account. I now do some editing on top of my transcription due to time restraints I cannot put in any more hours than I already do. Thanks for the input. My husband recently started working at this particular hospital. I am hoping he will be able to find out for me but no luck yet.
In 5 years there won't be any transcription departments in any hospital. All will be outsourced.
Same thing happened to me and if those HIM hags who control our destiny think it's a good thing they are so WRONG.  Life has been hard since having to work at a service, and I refused to work for the Monster MTSO that took my job as a matter of principle.  I think we should all write to Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Amy Klobuchar (the MT in MN can write to her), etc., and express our strong needs to  have MT jobs and American information STAY in America with American MTs.
Take at home transcription job or unit secretary job at hospital?
I've been an MT for 12 years and have worked at home doing MT for 10 years. Recently got replaced by EMR so had to find work elsewhere. I took a job at a local hospital as a unit secretary working 3-11 now I have been offered a job with a national transcription company. I'm not sure if I should go back to transcribing since the line count/money making potential has me worried. I've been assured that I will never run out of work but I'm worried that I will actually be working longer than the 8 hour shift in order to make the amount of money I need. I would love to be back home with my kids typing again as I miss not seeing them as much as I used to and they want me to be home. I am just not sure if I should stay in a job at the hospital which has a guaranteed amount of money per pay period since I'm being paid by the hour and not by the line where my paycheck can vary. Any thoughts/suggestions/opinions, recommendations out there? Any and all would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!
Transcription companies have already dropped out income into

McDonald's pays (starts!!!) at $9 in our town (in the South, mind you) plus benefits.

It is not worth being somebody's slave anymore, and that's what these MT companies (MQ in particular with their new toy) want us to agree to.

Let them get up off some money and treat us like professionals and I may come back.  I like medicine and have many years of knowledge.

But doctors and nurses aren't working for pennies and I'm finished working for pennies for these companies.

Any companies pay 9 cents a line or more for transcription?
Been doing this for 10 years for a company - now am an editor, but the pay is worse than an MT typically makes.  Thinking of going back to typing if I can make more money - which would mean making at least 9 cents a line (like I used to).  Anybody know any good companies?
Walmart/Huge transcription companies.

VISTA Friendly Transcription Companies?
I saw a post here within the last month for Vista-friendly companies.  Please email me if you know who they are.  Thanks so much!
VERY hard to get - a few companies have rad tied up pretty tight. The hospital I work for sm
will not even look at a new company for radiology. The TAT is too tight, the IS issues complex, and the radiologists do not want to have to proof their reports. You would be better off with medical records or small offices to start to build your size and reputation.

Keep applying at jobs is my opinion. Find out where your local hospital transcription is done
dd
Has anyone here tested with companies and had trouble with the transcription part with the foot

pedal not stopping the voice.  Am I doing something wrong.  I am using the foot pedal that I used for DQS and the voice just keeps going and going and I have to keep going back over the stuff and over it by mousing back and forth.

Check around your local area for clinics or transcription companies
That's what I did. I first started out working for a very small MTSO and worked at their office for a couple of weeks and then they moved me home and I started working on a single speciality account. I'm still working for the office after 5 years (altough the MTSO closed her business).
Lost account of 28 years to Dictaphone because hospital believes it will eliminate all transcription
Curious if any of you are working for Dictaphone or Infomatics and doing an account out of Miami with mainly ESL dictators?  I was convinced I would not lose the account after a few days with VR. However Dictaphone is not using VR right away and will transcribe reports the regular way until they have a database. I am certain this hospital will never be done by VR. I posted a job on here about a year ago offering 18 cents per line to help with this account and not one person  accepted after hearing the ESL doctors we have. They are that bad.  Anyone else have this happen to them? Losing to Dictaphone  And we have had to do most of the work for over a month since they supposedly took over because their system is not working.
Depends on what kind of hospital? Large urban hospital or small community hospital? SM

Also, is it a large teaching hospital? If so you have to consider there will be A LOT of different residents dictating, usually a lot of ESLs at teaching hospitals, and the residents rotate out and new ones rotate in every summer. So you can't expect to get the same dictators and build up your macros because the dictators change all the time.

I would say 9 cpl would be a pretty good offer for a small to medium community hospital where you will be doing the same dictators on a daily basis.  But for bigger, urban or teaching hospitals I would want at least 12 to 15 cpl.

How does MQ provide DQS to a
hospital and you not work for MQ?

If you can prove this is true (which I happen to believe you can), then please help us. Some of people are losing their health insurance and other benefits over loss of lines. To me, this is very serious.
How does MQ provide DQS
So, you have no MQ experience just experience with DQS program. By the way, most MTs who work outside of the hospital DO NOT GET PAID for headers, footers, looking up patient names, etc.; so perhaps, you should just stick to DQS problems at your hospital and not lump MQ into this. No, I am not a MQ advocate, but if you don't work for MQ, you can't really speak about what they pay for and what they don't pay for.

P.S. I am a single mom, struggling MT for the past 15 years, so I am no threat if you think I am MQ management, you need to rethink that.
They will provide it. sm
Just make sure that you ask them.
Please provide a link!
Every prosecutor who has been interviewed has generally told what these people are being held for but no one has come up with specific statements of the suspects.  When questioned on specifics they have said they are not at liberty to divulge information as that could be detrimental to the case, just as it would be in the US.
We can only use the list they provide

Hard to find when you're not sure what the name is even starting with. Even with a data base of 1,000 physicians, it's constant searching. I use the search option and try to search for just one tiny part of the name I can understands, but it takes forever!

yes, they provide equipment. NM
x
Yes, they do provide computer sm
for full or part-time or you may use your own.
because when the dictator's provide the
proper demographics and enunciate clearly, I LOVE this work. I do not do it for the $ or for the bennies. I am 60 years old and don't need either. I just love transcription work. I doubt, though, that you can understand this.
How come you provide no specifics?
Too busy to spend a few minutes typing information that would benefit other people, when obviously you benefit from this bulletin board by reading it and even responding? This website is criticized by people for being overly negative and when people make such harsh comments without having anything to base it on, it makes the poster look suspicious. If you have any facts (or even impressions) to support your claim, please give them. If you don't, why make such strong statements?

Should provide equipment for doc?sm
Am IC who does transcription for local MDs -- want to go digital - Should I purchase the equipment or should ask MD to do this??  help
Provide me with the links. NM
Goldbird
Please provide documentation. Thanks

You need to provide more info (sm)

Specifically, what type of pedal and headset are you using, including whether each one plugs into a USB port (flat rectangular plug) or a gameport/audio jack (mini-phono type plug).  Also, which operating system are you using (Windows 2000, XP, Vista, etc.)?

It sounds like you have a resource conflict, meaning that both devices are trying to use the same "channel", to put it in lay terms.  Such conflicts can be resolved in Control Panel --> Device Manager, but it takes a little technical savvy to do this and such situations have become much more rare with Plug and Play technology.

As a rule, two USB devices will "play nicely" together without any intervention on your part although sometimes you have to install a bit of software from a disk that comes with the device.  So, if only one of your devices is USB might be to pick up a USB version of whichever one is not.  Hopefully, this would be your headset, because you can pick up some very good USB headsets pretty cheaply.

Usually, the company you IC for will provide you

with whatever software you need to work.  You do need to have your own PC, pedal, high-speed internet, etc.  The going rate for IC working for a specific company is usually 8 cpl to 10 cpl for transcription and 4 to 5 cpl for VR editing.  And usually the companies make an offer and you either accept or don't.

If you are looking to get your own accounts, then you aren't an IC, you're self employed, you make the offer and decide the cpl you will charge and then what you charge depends on what part of the country you live in.  Plus when you're self employed, you bill them usually monthly.

why would you sell, take the money, then not provide (sm)
sounds like a scam to me
What is FTP site and do employers provide this?
I heard that they have this site and will give you a username and password.  Or is this something I have to put together myself.  If so, anyone have any information on how to set this up?  Thank you.
