What is a swamp cooler?? sm

Not counting the 4 hurricanes last year (ugh !! ), Florida is absolute paradise 8 - 9 months out of the year, which I consider our reward for having to endure the summer heat.  I have a top of the line, 1 year old central air conditioner, and during the summer my electric bills are off the wall.  My son and I both work at home so it's on 24/7.  I've never heard of a swamp cooler.  Would love some info!

Thanks !

In the CA desert, everyone has a swamp cooler..less expensive than AC.  You install it on the roof, there is a hole made through the roof with the swamp cooler on top.  You can also put it in a window.  It is kind of like a humidifier.  You connect it to a hose or pipe that pushes water through the cooler and the coolness from the water is pushed through the swamp cooler which then pushes air down through the hole in the roof into the house.  It cools the house at least 20 degrees.  You open one window but very little, that allows the air to circulate..you close the doors and all other windows.
    Swamp cooler.
Thanks for the info.  I looked it up on line and it's great if you live in low humidity areas.. but Florida in the summer is like walking out the door into a bowl of hot soup.  Thanks anyway.

I have both a swamp cooler and AC here in AZ-- the cooler is MUCH cheaper to operate because the AC uses a big compressor and that's what runs up the electric bill.  The humidity has to be below 25% or they don't work very well, so when the monsoon season hits, I have to run the AC.  I have been to Florida in the summertime (I have relatives there) and I could hardly breathe!  The humidity was so bad I felt as though I had an anvil on my chest.  They live right on the Gulf, too.  I told my uncle I was burning up one day and he said it was only 80 some degrees so being from AZ, it shouldn't seem hot to me.  Then we watched the weather on TV-- the humidity was 98%-- so I told him that explained a lot!  I much prefer hot and dry!
You know what woud be even cooler??
Is if all the doctors who've found major medical errors in their reports were able to call the transcriptionists directly and ask them if they thought it was okay to screw up? Then they can also comment on what rotten pond scum you must be for making errors in their report!

    Yah! That'd be cool.

Thanks for the info, but what is a laptop cooler??? Is this something that is necessary if you work on the laptop for hours at a time? I've never heard of those?
