What kind of damage that far in? I am not really worried about

the house falling in on us. The only thing that reall concerns me is the possibility of tornadoes. When Alicia came through, she was only a 3, but she had around 30 tornadoes. That is what concerns me.

What kind of water damage is what I would like to know sm..
Was it leaking from basement walls into basement or did someone leave water running and cause a flood, or was it sewer backup, or what is a natural flood?  Any kind of water damage really stinks!!  We had the unfortunate situation happen to us years ago when their was flooding all around us, but we did fine, that is, until the sewer system backed up into our basement about 4 feet high!  This was so gross, I don't think I'll ever get over it, however, we had it professionally cleaned and disinfected and threw EVERYTHING out, so hopefully that solved any health issues, so we are told.  Anyway, we invested $600 into a backup valve so that it will never happen again.  I have wanted to move ever since just because it was so gross and I can't get the image out of my head, but 4 years later, we are still here, kids and all.  So, the moral of the story I am trying to get at is this....they were supposed to be upfront and honest about the water damage problem and they were not, which leads me to believe that they have something to hide.  Therefore, you should potentially be able to get any money back because of this if you can prove that it was withheld information on the contract.  If you just love the house that much, go ahead with the inspection and find out what kind of water damage it was.  If it checks out with inspector, I would strongly suggest you have it professionally cleaned/disinfected to be safe, and expect it to maybe happen again and consider that thoroughly.  Personally, if we ever go to sell this house, I will be up front about it because even though we seemed to have fixed the problem, it is very possible it can happen again.  Hope this all makes sense.  Good luck.
sorry, don't think it's either new or damage control

Floor damage
I know a lady who sold flooring for years.  She advised me never to use rugs with rubber backing on vinyl (sp?) floors for just this reason.  We never went into how to repair the damage if it happened, though.  You might try calling someplace that sells and installs floors.
he underestimated the damage it

No one thought it would actually be this bad.  I'm shocked at what i'm seeing on the news.  When they said it was coming, I thought they were for the most part blowing smoke.  I never knew people could just be left to die like this in the U.S.  Its hard to comprehend in this day and age and country, that WE could be wiped out by a natural  distaster.

She was just trying to do damage control (for herself of course)
and you're right - she was told to leave, she didn't leave on her own volition. She just wanted to make it look that way to save face.
Wow! This REEKS of damage control!

No Ernesto damage or evacuation here either!

Whew!  Another close call.    Today is a beautiful, sunny (and muggy) day!

Wishing those in the Carolinas the same good fortune

Yes, there seems to be a tremendous amount of damage control on her lately by MQ. What is going on
and they are just as nasty as my office has been becoming lately with everyone worrying about their jobs now that our accounts have been switched to the NE region out of the local office.
Ah, Jeez Louise, damage control again (sm)

Psychology 101, name calling will get you no where.

Racing fans - the Atlanta Motor Speedway had significant damage...sm

yesterday by the tropical depression Cindy.  You can see photos of this through the Atlanta Journal-Constitution at:

http://lpe.ajc.com/gallery/view/metro/0705/storm/14

mostly trees limbs causing damage by falling on wires and rooftops

much minor roof damage and blew signs down around in those towns, enough to tell there was a storm, but NOTHING like further south!

It's gonna take more than one person to change things. Until all American MTs realize the damage

things will keep going downhill.  We need to all write letters, inform people, push for legislation that will prevent American patients' protected medical data from being offshored.  We need to boycott any MTSOs that offshore and we should not accept peanuts for our skills.

That's what it will take, but with MTs like you who call us whiners for voicing our frustrations, concerns, and opinions and who sit around doing nothing, we will all lose.

okay, now I'm a little worried....
my husband is on a boat...sort of a boat....which is docked on LA coast. He wasn't worried yesterday as he was talking to me on a pay phone, but he was also getting drenched by torrential rain.

all I can do is pray, I guess
Sorry I had you worried.
I won't let it happen again.
worried

I`m so sorry to hear you all are losing your accounts. It`s really scary, I have been looking for some type of employment since December and still nothing. I was working as a receptionist at a Independent doctor`s office and and because of lack of money and to try to safe money he joined in with another doctor in his office, which had a full staff so most of us lost are jobs. Anyway with all this happening I decided to go to MT school which starts the end of this month, but after reading all the posting`s on here of lost jobs, YIKES!  I`m wondering if this is the way to go. In other words I am now scared, worried, and very concerned and just don`t know what to do.

What is going on in the health care field?

I'm not worried . . .
Those who would bash someone for trying to question a system that is obviously not working very well are people which I refer to as sheep  . . . the ones who don't want to buck the system because they're afraid of losing their way.  We would still be living in caves if it weren't for those people who had the guts to question and demand accountability.
I was worried about that, too, but...
It looks like you have the option of keeping a minimum-payment land line account for emergencies. You use the same phone for ooma and land calls. You can keep your own phone number if you keep your land line. It sounds pretty amazing.

I got a little pay-as-you-go cell phone awhile back, so I suppose I would just use that to call 911 if I gave up my land line.
I'm not worried.
I'm not worried about any American MT taking my job. I'm very good at what I do. I like my employer and really don't want to be the one to subject them to some of the nasty folks on this board.
Worried?
Yes, EMR seems like the most worrisome of the threats to our jobs. But I had a client who doesn't use us anymore but does use EMR and they have not been able to get rid of their MTs because all EMR can't be done with a punch screen. There are so many variables that some of it needs to be dictated. Now if Kaiser is not dictating and just doing EMR then their records are suffering but Kaiser is an entity unto itself and it makes up its own rules and patient care is in the toilet at Kaiser.
Whew! You had me worried there

I have been worried about my job as well and tired of the pay..
I have been concerned with the MT field as well. I originally got started in this profession to be able to be at home and work when I have children. So far no kids have come along but I have found something else to do in addition to transcribing at home. Visit www.thefreshairshop.com if you are interested. :-)

I figured you must be worried....sm

I know you're worried and I don't even know you.  However, knowing insurance, if you go before the insurance kicks in, they (the insurance after it kicks in) will see this as a preexisting condition and may not cover future treatment.  IF you can wait 12 days (because even if it was serious, and it may not be serious, 12 days won't make any difference, outside of possibly allaying your fears).  12 days will gallop by!!!  I feel bad for you because you're anxious and I'm the same way about these things.  Hope you do well !!!!!

Thank you for posting! I was so worried about
you! I am very proud of you, too! It is unbelievable and sickening, literally, how bad withdrawal is from simple pain meds. It WILL get better, I promise! And, again, we are not addicts - the body simply gets dependent on pain meds, as well as some blood pressure pills, antiseizure meds, and more. The stigma of being on pain meds can be so devastating as well, but you have nothing to be ashamed about! Please do keep us posted!
You had me worried there for a minute! :)
I make a point to take my lunch "breakette" out on the deck. or I'll go stark raving mad!
I too am worried about the future of MT BUT......
Am I the only one here who thinks this article has nothing to do with us? We ARE NOT simply word processors or data-entry keyers. This says nothing about medical transcriptionists. Just my opinion.
Yep, but they said that about XP, too, so I am not too worried anymore.
n
I'm not worried, but I guess you SM
don't see that not doing everything you can before going to a word board is really lazy, plus it abuses the poor people who do go there to help out.
I am just not worried about VR, EMR, the sky falling and on and on
If the entire medical field goes kerplunk, all you can do is pick yourself off, get another job really fast and heave ho. What else? I have had 2 jobs pulled out from underneath me and I am still here. You can make it also. No use in worrying. I lost a very profitable job to outsourcing years ago and now don’t worry about the fate of Mting.
Aren't you worried
About viruses and stuff? I've heard about this before and it seems like a fantastic deal, but I'm still a little scared that something really awful could happen to my computer by downloading these programs.
I am not worried about being underbid
most MTs are underpaid; I've seen some pretty crappy MTs and actually the really great ones are few and far between.  Too many people get into MT for the sole reason that they want to stay home with their kids.  They look at it as a way to work from home, and that's it.  You get out of it what you put into it.  But I know when I didn't make much money I didn't waste my time whining about it.  If I had spent my time complaining about it like people on this board were, I would have been stuck right there where I was and I'd still be there.
if you are so worried about it, why don't you call and ask for God sakes!
Why do you care? It doesn't concern you. How much money they have has nothing to do with you. The fact that she presses the media and gives a lot of interviews, lets the media follow her around, etc. is the reason why there is interest in the story. She MAKES it a story.

I don't understand why you would be upset that a mother is getting media coverage for searching for her lost child? Are you jealous of her money or something?
Are you worried about possible MT job market glut then? I am...
nm
meant *Aren't you worried...

Thank you both so much. I have been with MQ for 2 years. I'm worried about the new expander....
I currently use SmarType and I guess it will not switch over. Do you use the Expander that is with DQS? Do they give you directions on how to do the "standard" auto correct. My TC said if you are computer literate, you should do fine.
I really don't think any of us were worried about you stealing our job - however if we had made t
comments about how easy your profession was, how uneducated you were, how it was just something we could all do in our spare time for a little extra spending money - I think you would understand.  BTW - some of us may have as much college as you do.  I wasn't bashing you, but I did feel you were bashing us.
Thanks, I'm worried that my plan was going to be taking on too much nm
nm
I am not worried about what other people make... sm
What bothers me is that people post about how there wages are so low, their income is low, and it discourages the new people in the field before they get a chance to see for themselves what they can or cannot do.  I just really do not see how people can not type more than 75-100 lines an hour if they are really working their job.  I consistently type 350-400 lines an hour for 6 hours a day.  That averages me to $35-40 an hour - which is way over minimum wage.
I'd be worried about fire issues... (n/msg)

Thanks. I'm not really overly worried, just kinda
wanted confirmation of others who have done the same thing. Have no experience doing this kind of thing is all. I'll be taking to my sup when she gets back off PTO.

Enjoy your trip to California!
Its not that I'm worried about bidding, but if the seller is ugly in
response to neutral or negative feedback I don't wan to deal with them, I don't care if they have a 99% rating.  Sure there may be hundreds of positives, but it is their response that I'm looking for to see if I want to deal with this person/company.
For those worried about outsourcing in India, I took this from MQ board.
MS size=2>Congress today announced  that the office

of President of the United States of America

will be outsourced  to India as of January 21, 2006.

The move is being made to save the President's $400,000

yearly salary, and also a record $521 billion in deficit expenditures and related overhead the office has

incurred during the last 5 years.  We believe this

is a wise move financially.  The cost savings should be  significant, stated Congressman Thomas Reynolds (R-WA).

Reynolds, with  the aid of the Government Accounting
Office, has studied outsourcing of American jobs extensively.

We cannot expect to remain competitive on the world stage

with the current level of cash outlay, Reynolds noted.

Mr. Bush was informed by  email this morning of his

termination. Preparations for the job move have been

underway for sometime. Gurvinder Singh of Indus Teleservices, Mumbai,  India, will be assuming the office of President

as of January 21st.  Mr.  Singh was born in the United

States while his Indian parents were vacationing at

Niagara Falls, thus making him eligible for the
position.  He will receive  a salary of $320 (USD)

a month but with no health coverage or other benefits.

It is believed that Mr. Singh will be able to handle
his job  responsibilities without a support staff.

Due to the time difference between the US and India,

he will be working primarily at night, when few
offices of the US Government will be open.

Working nights will allow me to keep my day job at

the American Express call center, stated Mr. Singh in an
exclusive interview.  I am excited about this position.

I always hoped I would be President someday.

A Congressional spokesperson noted that while Mr. Singh

may not be fully aware of all the issues involved

in the office of President, this should not be a

problem because Bush was not familiar with the issues either.

Mr. Singh will rely upon a script  tree that will enable

him to respond effectively to most topics of concern.

Using these canned responses, he can address common
concerns without having to understand the underlying issues at all.  We know these  scripting tools work, stated the spokesperson.  President Bush has used them successfully for years.

Bush will receive health coverage, expenses, and salary until

his final day of employment. Following a  two week waiting period, he will be eligible for $240 a week unemployment for 13  weeks.  Unfortunately he will not be eligible for Medicaid, as his  unemployment benefits will exceed the allowed limit.

Mr. Bush has been provided the outplacement services of

Manpower, Inc. to help him write a  resume and prepare

for his upcoming job transition. According to Manpower,

Mr. Bush may have difficulties in securing a new position

due to limited  practical work experience.  A Greeter

position at Wal-Mart was suggested  due to Bush's extensive experience shaking hands and smiling no matter what the  circumstances.

Another possibility is Bush's re-enlistment in the Texas Air National Guard. His prior records  are conspicuously vague

but should he choose this option, he would likely be

stationed in Waco, TX for a month, before being sent to
Iraq, a country he has visited. I've been there, I know

all about Iraq, stated Mr. Bush, who gained invaluable

knowledge of the country in a visit to the Baghdad Airport's terminal and gift shop. Sources in Baghdad and Falluja say

Mr. Bush would receive a warm reception from local Iraqis.

They have asked to be provided with details of his arrival
so that they  might arrange an appropriate  welcome.

I'm sure you're fine. If you weren't worried/
that would be different.  But you obviously do care.  I'm sure you are doing just fine.  Ask your MTSO; I'm sure she will appreciate that you are conscientious enough to ask.
"most of the stuff I worried about never happened." on a headstone. nm

unusual for me too, worried too, not Amherst office nor Ohio

Cool thanks. Was worried they might lick a substance that would be poisonous to them mostly.
