What version of Word? That can't be set in newer versions. I had to do a macro --sm

Does anyone know if the newer versions of Escription sm
are compatible with Woord 2007?  The requirements I received some time ago stated that Word 2007 was not compatible.  Wondered if they had upgraded yet.  TIA
Might be a newer version. I used Sylcount a while back
I switched to PractiCount myself because it gives a line count similar to that of Sylcount but you don't have to save the files in any special format. When I had Sylcount, though, I definitely had to save them in .rtf format or it would tell me it was not a Sylvan .rtf file and that I had to resave document in that format to count it. I remember because anytime you reopened a file, you also had to save it all over again under .rtf format because it would default to something else. Real PITA!

I believe they recently upgrade to a newer version.
So perhaps you should notify your MTSO manager to alert them that there could be a problem.
Your friend has the newer version and it doesn't play .dss.
Have her get the older (4.15) version and it will work. There is a link somewhere on this site to the older version that was posted by the Administrator just a week or two ago. Do a search and it will lead you to the correct link.
Works is a dumbed down version of Word and Excel. You get the full version of Word in the Suite.
The Works Suite is a cheaper way of getting a full version of Word if you don't want or need the other applications in Office.
MS Word versions
Well found out that with the update, it DOES work, instead of doing "typical install' you can do a custom install and tell the update to keep the original version of Word, which it does and will also import your Stedman's Quick Look, etc.
Even different versions of Word count the same, so it's not that either. nm

Sharing with older versions of Word.
There are some problems with sharing files with older versions of Word. Although there are ways to get around it, it sounds as if it might be a bit annoying. I am thinking about upgrading, and this came up in my research.
Two versions of Word on the same computer will only work
correctly if the oldest version is installed *first*.
There are updated macros in all versions of Word
except 2007. The macro for 2000 is called macros9.dot and can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. The AutoCorrect Utility in 2002 & 2003 is in the support.dot template that is included with Word. You can go to this site to get the macro for 2007:

Or you can simply locate your .acl file and back that up. It's easy to find if you add an entry and then do a search for it by the date modified. Just make sure you are searching hidden files and folders.

Some WP versions can read Word .doc files, some don't. Some versions of WP will not accept copy/paste from Word. The advice to save the Word document as an .rtf file may be your only choice.
Upgrade to Word 2007 vs older versions
I just bought a new PC with Vista operating system.  Now I must buy Word to install.  I looked at the differences between Word 2007 and the older versions on the Microsoft website and it seems that there is a difference in the way Word 2007 is saved compared to the older versions - you have to download a "patch" to be able to "read" older version Word files and for my clinic to be able to "read" my Word 2007 they will have to download a "patch" as well to enable their PC to open this document.  I need some advice if this is a good idea or if I should just stick with an older version of Word.  I have a copy of about 3 years old that I have not used and can load on my system.  I would like to upgrade to the latest version as I know in a year or two the doctor's office would have changed but am wondering if the new version is a pain to work with or a pleasure.  Anybody out there that can tell me the pros and cons between upgrading to the latest or just sticking to the old and familiar.  I am also not sure if the doctor's office will download the patch and how accomodating they will be...

Smartype only works in specific Word versions.
You want an Expander that works in all programs and a lot of platforms, such as Instant Text or Shorthand.

This looks like a long and drawn out thing to do, but it's not that hard really.

When I did it, I checked and found that I had the support template already in the folder, so I was able to skip down to "Back up your AutoCorrect entries on source computer." It's named support.dot and is found here:

Just following the instructions closely, it was really easy.

If you don't have Word 2002, I think there are other methods avaialable.

for you.  Not sure if it will work on your platform, though.  If you need it, just answer on here and I will post the macro so you can paste it into your program macros and assign a shortcut

I sure hope someone can help me here.  I have recently started using Word 2007 and am absolutely lost!  I finally figured out how to create a macro....but now cannot figure how how to call up that macro when I need it.  does this make sense???  example, ddd stands for degenerative disc disease..when I type "ddd"  do I hit a function key, just the tab key, CTL + function key?????  can't figure this out.  please help me!

thanks for all the help.  I absolutely hate word 2007 and as soon as I can I will be uninstalling it and reinstalling an older version.  it is completely different from previous versions. there are no toolbars at the top but a "ribbon" which is needlessly complicated.  sorry I'm cranky.  Thanks again though.
MS Word macro question. SM

All of sudden all my macros give me the "Code Execution has been Interrupted."  Then I have to click Continue, End, Debug, or Help.


Why is this happening?  I've tried deleting the macros and re-recording them, but it keeps doing it.  HELP!  It's making me crazy.


 


How can I make a macro in word

For some reason, I am unable to use the F11 key to jump to headers within a report when I use my macroed reports in EXtext.  So, I wanted to know how I could macro to jump from header to header in the word document and use a hot key.  If I could make a macro using word, I think I could still use my macro reports.

Just an extremely simple Word macro SM
I'll try and explain it. I'm no Word genius, I PROMISE.

You get in a document you're typing.

Macros
Record new macro
I made mine a keyboard macro, you name it, assign it (mine happens to be alt. alt period)

Then you go:
Edit
Find
. (period space space is what that is supposed to be)
Replace . (period space)
Replace all.

In the parentheses is the keys I pushed. I don't know how else to explain it but it's the alt Key and the period Key.

There's bound to be a "real" way to do it, but I just bumbled through this way.

Word Macro to count Lines Strict inside

Hi,


The solutions others gave are good, but if I just needed to get the number of lines with typing (and don't need an invoice or a report), I'd use a Word macro.


The other solutions offered have this drawback: If the body of your document contains tables, the count Word gives you is vastly inflated, for Word counts each cell in that table as a line. This is not what the eye sees, and becomes problematic when you try to justify such to your client.


Below is a macro for counting what we at Emmaus call Lines Strict. (i.e. Lines with typing on them, vs Lines Extended that includes the blank lines).


To use it, copy from Public Sub through End Sub, and paste it into your macros along with your other macros. Easiest way of doing this is (after you have copied the appropriate lines):


1. Click Tools | Macros, and select an existing macro.


2. Click the Edit button.


3. Once the Visual Basic Editor opens, press Ctrl+End to move to the bottom.


4. Paste the clipboard contents.


5. Click File | Compile Normal. (If you've pasted things that don't belong, it won't compile.)


6. Click File | Close and Return to MS Word.

Setting up macro in Word for jump code...inside
(you can actually use any key on the keyboard, I actually use F3 because it doesn't seem to interfere with anyting.)

I call it a "jumpcode" and what you need to do is create a Word macro for it. For example, I use (Alt + /) to insert blanks in a document. Now if I want to jump to the blanks I use (Alt + >). In reading your question, it sounds as if the symbol you want to "jump" to is already in the document, so you would just have to define the jumpcode for that prompt.

So, first create your macro.
1. Tools - Macro - Record New Macro.
2. Name your macro (ex. Jumpcode) or use the default Macro name
3. Assign macro to Keyboard.
4. Pick what keys to assign the keyboard macro - Example Alt + J (NOTE - SOME KEYS ARE ALREADY DEFAULT ASSIGNED BY WORD. SYSTEM WILL ALERT YOU TO THIS FACT! YOU WOULD THEN PICK ANOTHER KEY OR THE DEFAULT WORD KEY WILL BE OVERWRITTEN)
5. Select Assign - Close
6. You will then notice the "record macro function" come on (symbol of a little tape cassette will appear on screen). All key strokes from this point will be recorded until you turn off record macro function.
7. Recording your macro. Since the jumpcode you want to jump to is the >" you should set it up this way:
A. Ctrl + F (the find function). This will pull up the "Find and Replace" box.
B. Type in the prompt you want to find which would be >"
C. Hit "Find Next"
D. Then close "Find and Replace" box.
E. Stop recording. (Hit the square in the record macro icon)

Now when you hit "Alt + J" system should jump to the >" prompt in your document

Which version of Word are you using?

If you are using Word 2003, I HIGHLY recommend you disable autocorrect and anything that would automatically insert anything based on an expansion system within Word.  There is a known problem (on MS-Word's end) that these 2 programs compete for expansions and Word can lock up, causing you to lose up to your entire report.  I've been in touch with several people trying to resolve this issue but it is on Microsoft's end, not Smartype.  Any prior version of MS-Word does not have this issue.  Just be sure you don't have the same expansions set up for both Word and Smartype.  I loved my ST with Word 2000.  I'm on a platform where I can no longer use ST but I am slowly importing all my entries into a different expansion program.

What version of MS Word are you using and do you have it and Windows (not VISTA--extext not compatible with Vista) upgraded?  This should have been checked when tech support did original install for you but maybe they didn't check. Make sure your operating system has all upgrades it should and that MS Word has all the upgrades it should, too, then reboot, make sure nothing opens up or is open after you reboot.  Then go to Windows Explorer, C drive, then docnet (these are your ExText Word Client folders).  You are going to do a clean install, so delete the following folders and no others:  Dump, offlinedoc, recovery, templates, transnet, workinggroup.  If you delete the entire docnet folder you will delete all of extext and will NOT be able to reinstall, so only the folders above should be deleted. Reboot again.  You also want to make sure you don't have any old temp files sitting on your hard drive; these can affect how your programs run.  You can check this by doing a search on your C drive (assuming drive is C), for *.tmp.  Make sure again that nothing is opened and delete those files.  I would do this after deleting the above folders but before reinstalling Extext. Make sure nothing opens up again or is opened, and reinstall Extext again.  This should clear things up for you, and if that doesn't work, I would definitely contact tech support.  Extext is not supposed to work right if you open up Word first. Extext should be opening Word for you, sometimes you can get a runtime error if you exit from the VPN before extext has disconnected.


Even though you exit from Extext, and you should never exit using the X in the corner, it takes a few seconds for the last file to upload, so it is better to exit from extext, leave the vpn connected, check email or do somthing else and then disconnect the vpn.  Also, if you were doing a control S to look at a document and left that document open, then control N'd your working document, and then tried to start a new document when the screen pops up, you will get a runtime error.

I do not find "speller type" option/window where you are saying it should be - ?!    BTW, I have uninstalled Word Pro and gone back to plain old Word 2003.

Try Ctrl + A to highlight the entire document if the template already has text in the document area only, then go to the Font dialog box and choose the font and size you want, then click on the Default button so it also changes the original template. If there is no text in the document area, just go to the Font dialog box at the beginning of the document and follow the same steps. I am assuming the original template is a .dot file. When you close the document, you will get a message asking if you want to save changes to the template. Be sure to check the yes box.

What Version of Word do you like? 2000 or?
I'm getting a new computer pretty soon and am wondering what version of Word to get with it. I am only familiar with Word 97 and I like some of the things about that.

I need a version that will automatically CAPITALIZE after a period. Couldn't live with that.

The version I use does not use my word autocorrect but has
its own. I have to turn mine off or they both come in at the same time with words within words.
I have an older version of word, so
I type 65- and then use Expander yo for year-old and also have yobf, yowf (black female, white female), etc.
