1. Have you filed your demand for payment letter with this company? This may just do the trick. You have not mentioned in this posting thread if you have done that yet. That is your first step. The other posters have explained how to do this and what to say (google for sample letters).
2. You are right, I think, in that the Dept of Labor does not oversee IC income.
3. BBB cannot do anything; they simply take reports and keep them on file. This is a good resource for other people to check up on past history with this company.
4. You have received an excellent suggestion from the posters about contact the attorney general's office's fraud division. Do that and see what they say. Research that avenue. If after research that seems appropriate, do that, and also advise the company that you have done that as well.
5. If you take them to small claims court, which is an excellent idea, this may mean that you would have to travel out of state to that courthouse. Of course, that expense can be added to your lawsuit.
6. What they have done is criminal. They have broken the law. If you no longer work for them, and are working elsewhere, great, because you have theh peace of mind of good income coming in. Meanwhile, make this your current pet project. Remember, the moment you send an invoice, you are owed that money. That money becomes your money, not their money. They are laughing all the way to the bank on your money.

Keep me closely posted. My email is available to you. We want to know what is going on and we want to support you. Many of us have "been there and done that," and we want to be involved in a career industry that is following the law and not mistreating their professionals who provide services.
