Whatcha wearing and who you're emailing

I had read someone's complaints about complaining yesterday, while browing the board.  I got an email from one of my girlfriends just now, telling me she had been called in for receiving too many emails and given a 90 day verbal warning.  I used to work for a company that told me I made too many personal phone calls and worried I was not dressed professionally enough.  I used to have to pick up the CEO's cleaning and make sure all the buttons were on his shirts and there were no wrinkles.  Filling him a pitcher of water on his desk and leaving no fingerprints on a glass to go with it.  Let's remember that, today, as we sit in our sweats, being comfortable, or if the phone rings and we visit for 10 minutes, or if we get a cute email and want to send it to friends.  No boss towering over us......at least in our home.

Never thought of wearing scrubs, but if you're comfy, sm

that's all that matters.  I did the heels and hose thing for over 20 years when I worked in an office and/or hospital, now my "uniform" consists of a t-shirt and shorts until it gets really cold, then I begrudgingly give up my shorts and go with sweat pants, although not the kind with the elastic at the ankle ... hate those.  I'm tall, so usually most pants end up looking like capri pants anyway, so guess I should just cave in and buy capris.

A lot of people think because I work at home, I sit in jammies all day, but that idea doesn't even appeal to me.  Plus, first thing in the morning, I have to walk my doggie, and I really do not think the neighbors need or want to see me walking around in my PJs.  But it is a personal choice ... if jammies or scrubs or even typing in the nude make you happy and productive, I say go for it.  :-)

My professionalism is not determined by what I wear.  The UPS or Fed Ex guy would probably fall over dead if I answered the door in heels and pearls.  :-)   But they both comment on how happy I always seem, and that must be a reflection of my love for my job and the comfort of being in the environment I choose to create for myself.  :-)

Yikes .. this was supposed to be a short little post supporting the lady who wanted to wear scrubs.  Guess it's not only the docs I type for who are long-winded ... oops!

Happy Saturday everyone!

To NSS -- Better than emailing -- SM
After I finish working tonight, I'll post the instructions right here!

Emailing?
I would definitely call- leaves no paper chase and you can talk with her regarding the situation. Emails leave that chase.
Have tried emailing you...
I got it back, don't know what the problem is. Anyway, long story short, I lasted 10 days at Transtech; had nothing but equipment problems from day 1 that their 2 techs apparently couldn't solve. They called in a third guy who also could not help. They said it probably wasn't my PC. Drove me insane; I was able to do one report at a time, then had to sign completely out and back in again. I quit over this because I could not produce; they liked my work, I liked the account, no problem there. They seemed shocked I quit because of this. They offered to "rent" me one of their PC's, I said no thanks. Guess I'm spoiled; in 30+ years of transcription I've never had to fool with equipment problems and don't want to have to at this point. I went unhappily back to Spheris and got all my benefits back but absolutely hate speech rec and all the other crap going on there these days including losing my Texas account. As of now, I'm putting out resumes at the local hospitals (not transcription jobs) and am hoping for some interviews. I wish you well, your experience with Transtech probably won't be like mine, most folks are apparently happy there.
Whatcha get?

I know whatcha mean
I worked for a neurologist. People would come in complaining about not feeling good and having difficulties sleeping.

Then in the H&P we find out why: Smoke 1-1/2 packs a day; drinks 4-6 glasses of tea and 4-5 cokes a day; drinks a 6-pack daily and a 30-pack on the weekends; is 75 pounds overweight; doesn't exercise; watches TV until 2 a.m.

I always wanted to tell 'em: You're at the wrong doctor's office, you do-do! You need to be at the psych's office! LOL

I know whatcha mean!
A co-working of mine used to refer to this phenomenon as "trying to type with gorilla gloves on"...lol I can see it now! It really does seem like there is a disconnect between our brains and our fingers sometimes doesn't it?
Please stop emailing me. You know who you are. (SM)

I figure it would be rude and/or against the MT Stars TOS for me to use the name of this person or reprint verbatim her emails here on the site, so I will just say this to you ...  you can stop emailing me now.

I am not going to agree with you that I should be "thankful" for the employer who wants to break our contract and who treats me with disrespect.  I disagree with you that she is my "boss" any more than my hair colorist should view me as her "boss".  My colorist has a talent and I pay her to perform a service for me.  That doesn't make me her "boss", nor can I call her up and demand that she stop making dinner for her family and meet me at the salon to do my highlights.  LOL!

I do not agree with you that those of us on this board are all a bunch of whiners.  I do not agree with you that my children would be better off being raised in daycare.  My son -- now in fourth grade -- went off to school just fine having been to preschool 2 days a week for 3 hours a day rather than all day every day.  Sorry, but there was no crying and wailing on his first day of school.  You didn't have to put your kids in daycare to prepare them for school.  That's something people say to make themselves feel better about their daycare decision.  If that is the choice you or anyone else made, fine.  It doesn't affect me or my family and it's none of my business.  However, don't give me the "my kids were prepared for school and kids of work-at-home moms like you cry all day at school because they aren't prepared" garbage.  That's what it is, garbage.  Children don't need eight hours a day five days a week of "preparation" for school that is longer than the school day itself.  That's why they have preschool, a couple hours a couple of days a week.  If you chose to put your children in daycare, be proud of or at least confident in your choice without having to make excuses for it.

And another thing, I HAVE been "in the workforce", as I am sure a lot of these other ladies who work at home have been as well.  I am CHOOSING to do MT so that I CAN be at home raising my children myself.  And, in fact, I am IN the workforce.  I am my own boss.  I have my own business.  I work from home.  I have a contract, and I expect those who sign it to abide by it.  I expect professionalism.  If I were flipping burgers for minimum wage, I might expect to tolerate some behavior like that exhibited by my MTSO.  I am a professional.  I expect my contract to be honored and to be treated professionally.  You don't have to agree with me on that, but you are not going to change my mind about it, either.

You are the only one who has sided with my MTSO in this.  I am sure my MTSO would love to have you.  However, I'd really like you to stop emailing me now.  If you are proud of your stance on this, post it here for everyone to see, but please leave my inbox alone.

Can we do it? I think it would be great to have support from fellow MTs. We all listen to reports all day about people who need to get healthier, we need to hold ourselves to that too!

I would like to ask you some questions.  Thanks

I was a previous supervisor with Medquist and had an MT who told me on several occasions that he was a CMT. He didn't know that this info was on the internet. He was not a CMT.

I've had that problem in the past also. I found that carefully painting the keys with a clear nail polish works wonders.

Whatcha wanna bet these not so long lived jobs are the same few companies?
:P
Always! When emailing my resume, my email acts as my cover letter and when faxing, I always have a
Your cover letter says much more about you than your resume ever can.  Your resume lists your education, your jobs, and highlights your skills.  In your cover letter, you have an opportunity to sum up how many years total experience you have and get specific about certain things you've accomplished at certain jobs.
What does wearing a vest have to do with it?
s
I can't stand wearing shoes.
Sometimes I'll wear socks in the winter if my feet get cold.
At this point I would seriously consider wearing pantyhose and going TO a job.

I said I wouldn't but this business doesn't appear to be getting better, just worse for those of us involved.

Letters wearing off on keyboard
I admit, I purchased a very inexpensive keyboard, but the letters have worn off within a month! In looking at other keyboards at different stores, it looks like they all have the same kind of stuck-on letters that would wear off pretty quickly. Can anyone recommend a keyboard that retains its letters for a very long time with a lot of use? Or has anyone tried the stickers they make to cover the keys?
I've been wearing a splint that's sorta like a retainer...sm
for years that my orthodontist made for me.  I've had it replaced about every 5 years or so.  It works great!   The funny thing is that I pick at him that when he put me in braces at age 12 he never dreamed that 30 years later I'd STILL be coming to see him.    I do have fun when I go see him because invariably there's some pre-teen or teenager who asks "so how long have you been a patient?" and when I tell them 30 years they look horrified.  Then I explain that I was in braces for 18 months, retainers for a year and then returned for TMJ problems at age 20 and have been in and out every few years since then.  They always give a big sigh of relief then!
That's true. I wouldn't mind wearing the
burka thing or whatever you call it.  I can't have direct sunlight on my skin anymore anyway (melanoma survivor).  I would fit right in except for the freckles, green eyes and strawberry hair.  I did hear there are very good horseback riding places and that would be a big draw for me of course, as I would be a real cowgirl if I could.  Just don't live in the right place or time for that  matter.
Chill out, all she is doing is wearing a color she obviously likes -
and black in high school, some pretty wild clothes too. Doesn't sound like she is going goth or anything. Lots of girls wear black, nothing wrong with it. Remember pick your battles and don't blow the little things out of proportion.....as for rebelling I would not consider this anywhere close to rebelling.
I wouldn't suggest wearing them while you work.

Well, you're all complaining that accounts are current and work is low, so, gee, maybe they're

You're probably right. Plus we're losing our percentage of good people by .... (sm)
allowing every loser from every 3rd world country on the planet to just stroll on into our country, some legally, most illegally, and take advantage of the social services all us hard working little gerbils pay for by having money taken out of our pay every month. But I don't think we're all lazy. Just the ones on permanent welfare driving around town in brand-new Cadillac Escalades. Saw one just today on the Bayshore Fwy. Brand-new black Escalade with expensive spinner wheels, with 5 or 6 Mexicans in it. Well, who knows - maybe they stole it and it was on its way to a chop-shop. Smart-and-hungry people aren't always hard-working and honest.

You're forgetting all the stuff you can't buy when you're UNEMPLOYED!
Unemployed people have a hard time buying anything, including cheaply made offshore products. How many will have to end up depending on public assistance? That means more tax dollars being eaten up - besides the taxes NOT being collected from the overseas workers. In the long run, are you really enjoying a lower price?

You're not losing it, you're burned out on your main job.
I feel for you... I am having my own "version" ;-) of these kinds of struggles. Lots of recent changes at the admin level have made my job do a 180, going from a really great one to a really crappy one.

For me, it's a struggle to get through the day with a shred of motivation. I get distracted in the way you discuss as well.

I just try to make my environment as comfortable as possible and make the best of it while I decide what the best way is to deal with the burnout... I figure if I can't change my inner brain workings so that I still like this job, I need to find another one, or this feeling will possibly get worse!

I hope it works out for you. Wish I had some better advice for you, but this really does look like burnout and extreme job dissatisfaction to me. We all wear it differently. Try to be good to yourself while you figure out a solution.

Don't know what you're complaint you're making with this post. sm

You stated in your original post that you don't want to work weekends or odd shifts. What is your definition of an odd shift?  Second shift?  Third shift?  Sounds like you want to work M-F on days.  Sounds kind of rigid to me.

Personally I like second shift, so everyone working days means more work for me!
