At the top of the page, there was an ad defining Alzheimer's disease (with an apostrophe) from alzheimersconcern.com. We're probably the only one's following this new guideline. I wonder how many people read these apostropheless terms we are now mandated to transcribe and actually do think we're nuts. Even if it is correct, and I do understand the reasoning behind leaving the apostrophe off, it still doesn't help our image any, at least in my opinion. Just a thought.

Your error made me chuckle, which is, ya know, fitting for the error. Not a big deal, and no we ALL
make mistakes! Heavens! I remember starting out, I actually typed CABBAGE! Can you imagine? Scary thing, though, is when you get an MT out 10 years and they type cabbage. There are errors like yours, and there are major-absolutely-no-clue-of-our profession errors, which are mind boggling when you see them in print. I've been on both sides, typing and proofing, and I never dreamed of the quantity and quality of errors some MTs make - HUGE errors. That said, yes, we all make them, but its the ones who are unlearned and then arrogant when you point out the error - we have to, ya know, and its done kindly, so that they learn, and still that type of MT flips out and has a hissy! No win situation for both parties, really, as the MT really can't grow in the field if they aren't accountable to themselves even for their work. I can't give more specific examples, as I could potentially hurt some MTs who would recognize their errors, but I assure you, some are unbelievable.

I disagree. I just picked up another account today. You just need to go where the money is, do a little extra and pick up your own accounts. In the past six months I have picked up two accounts that total an income of close to 1200 a month if not more. This is on top of the accounts that I have that already generate 50K a month. No I do not charge 15 to 17 cpl, no I do not work 60 hours a week and yes the majority of the transcribing I do. I pick uo the single doctors that no one else wants, I pick up and deliver, print, fax, get to know the staff and low and behold I make a good living. With these two accounts I still will be working less than 40 hours even with pick up and deivery and probably closer to 32. I may have my IC's help if they want to pick up more lines than they do with their psych accounts but if not, well I will do it. Again, look for the smaller clinics and go for it, the money is there and sometimes yea you have to put out a little bit of personal contact and customer service but again it is worth it. Though my accounts are not perfect, they are dependable, pay on time, and work with me when I have problems. And these are older doctors who do not want EMR and do not want to type and so we have all decided that we will all retire at the same time. In fact, I cut my thumb the other day trying to cut my new carpet to make if fit and my hand surgeon stiched up my thumb for free. Anyway, to me the money is there but you might not be in your pj's all the time typing and need to get up and out and deliver and pick up. Good luck to all of you. My life is good.

I really do appreciate your explanation and I can see exactly what you mean.
Out of absolute curiosity, I called my trainer and asked her about this "new SE pay plan".
She was quite candid, I thought, in her answer. She discussed the fact that MQ had felt they needed more SEs because it is cost-effective for the company (no benefits to pay). As they picked up more SEs, their employee base was starting to sag so they worked on a better benefits package for employees for better hiring and retention. She said while MQ realizes they need to have a higher percentage of employees (an employee can be "controlled" as far as hours and schedules, etc., according to the IRS), the SEs were leaving their spots to become employees b/c of the benefits being offered. So, they are trying to replenish and maintain a specific base of SEs. She said that MQ is still in the process of improving pay and benefits for employees and those changes will be rolling out as soon as they can be installed.
It does make sense to me.

I can handle a few ums, i have been a Transcriptionist for over 12 years, but 100 ums or uhs in 12 and a half lines of typing. Not to mention 8 minutes of dictation, just sitting there waiting and then what you get is um, uh . . ..um I was just venting!

I hate MT, but I love the perks is what you say.
I know you are paid on production at 5 cpl and you said it was an editing/transcription combination. And yes, if you do not like your job you certainly are not goign to push yourself and that ellusive 250 to 300 lph will never be met and you will be getting closer to 150 to 200 lph.
If if the software program that is the problem, which you never mention in your initial post, then you need to look elsewhere and fnd that perfect fit. What company is it you work for? Maybe someone else can help with the glitch. I've had issues that were actually on my end which interferred with a specific platform and once I got it fixed, things were great, but in the meantime it sure was frustrating. In other words, it is not always the company's fault.

I was being sarcastic about being called a "typist". After all, isn't patient care enhanced by ACCURATE and COMPLETE medical records? I would like to think I contribute, albeit modestly, to a patient's care. Don't you ever ask to see your records and check them for accuracy? She needs to compare the amount she is paid ($5.75/1000 words is less than $0.01 per word) by computing a line (in this case the example given was 65-characters with spaces) times a line rate (example of $0.08/line). Comparing the two results will help her to decide if she is being paid enough.

I used to laugh and think people were wackos until it happened to me while working in a bank. One other time was five years after my father died. I never cried but missed horribly. I was his "little girl." Five years later marriage was in the toilet and I awoke one night and saw him at the foot of my bed, never said a word, but I went back to sleep. I felt so much better in the morning, but I think that was because I was in such despair and needed him so much that I wanted to see him.

When I read your post, I had to chuckle because even though I do visit this site and I'm pro-AAMT, I'm in the minority. I think that the reason why you see so much AAMT bashing is because most of the people on these kinds of sites do tend to complain about this, that, and everything with regards to this profession. In other words, I don't see a whole lot of positive about anything! I think the movers and shakers are out there doing their thing, trying to make a DIFFERENCE, and not wasting time posting on chat boards and thus why you don't see a lot of people jumping to defend AAMT here. Again, just my humble opinion from an old MT.

Needed a laugh, too. I just went by to drop off/pick up work, 10-12 miles one way, and the office is closed. OM told me someone would be there until noon, even though they are closed on Fri afternoons! Received no notice they were closing early today. To clarify, I did work there as an employee until November 30 and been at home since then. I guess I am a pushover--I've always tried to be cooperative and "nice" until I have a reason not to be. Also, I don't have any other options right now. However, I am going to present a short contract--I don't have any hope that it will be received very well, but I should stand up for myself, especially in the light of today's inconvenience. Appreciate it--

I had a PA who would give us his name (he was Iranian), spell it, give his name and spell it again and then go on to the patient's name. He'd spell that and give it to us three times. Then he's give us the medical record number. Something like this: "MR # 123456. That's 123456. Again, that's 123456." His dictations were office notes - for the other PAs those ran in the 3 minute range. His were 7 or more because he repeated everything at least twice and sometimes three times. We weren't sad when he left the practice to go work for the university teaching hospital.

Was gonna post, then decided not to. Opened
my door, went outside to water my petunias. Went to turn on the water and uncoil the black hose, and there was A HUGE SNAKE COILED IN WITH THE HOSE!! AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! It did not move - it had a fly walking on its back, and I PRAISED THE LORD THAT IT WAS DEAD!! DEAD SNAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not as bad as a living snake. As I was going to poke it with a stick to fling it, my daughter screamed - ITS NOT DEAD!!!! ITS JUST SUN BATHING. I looked and looked, and it sure looked dead. IT WAS NOT.................................. It was about 3 feet long, which will probably morph into 8 feet by the end of the week as I tell my tale!! It was HORRIBLE. I live in NJ, and moved to a new area a few years back. Never saw a snake, a tick, or a black widow spider in my LIFE. Now they are everywhere. I laughed at the posts to call animal control. If you live in an area with snakes and the like, they LAUGH at you. Believe me, I know. I actually called the POLICE when I found my first bonafide black widow spider guarding her nest. She ATTACKED US!! They are actually aggressive when by an egg sac. Turns out they are everywhere in this 1 section of NJ - brought in via immigrants, per the Health Dept. So, I feel your pain!! I wouldn't kill them either. Killed a 2 foot rat about a year ago, and still feel bad. The thing lived under my fridge. HORRIBLE. One night the thing ate a 12 pack of English Muffins. Anyhoooooooooooooooooooooooooo....I can relate!! My only advice - RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
