When I worked on site, we would judge docs by ability to dictate ...

As it turned out, our assessments were usually correct as to who the best/worst doctors were by the way they dictated. It was not necessarily just that they pronounced words correctly. It had more to do with general sloppiness and lack of attention to detail.

God gave us the ability to judge for good reason. Then told us judge not, lest thou be judged. NM

I know of at least one MTSO who trains the docs on how to dictate

Doctor's hate to dictate. I can't tell you how many docs

have told me over the years how dictating is their least favorite part of their job.  This is why so many of them suck at it.  I used to the transcription supervisor at a teaching hospital and I used to have to train the new residents each year on the dictation system and I used to beg them to dictate slowly and clearly and I would bribe them with promises of food.  I would stock the chart completion room where most of the dictated from with all kinds of snacks and treats.

Docs are so sweet when they are residents.  Then they turn ugly as the years go by!

I have an account where former MTs dictate dishcarge summaries for docs. sm
Believe it or not, they are the WORST dictators!! For people who should know the terminology and pronunciation of medical words and meds, they sound like first-graders trying to sound out every other word. I absolutely hate doing their charts. They are both American, but they're worse than ESLs for even basic medical words.
It worked; I remembered to download the work into E-Dictate
nm
Yep, they dictate in noisy nursing stations, dictate in the ER, dictate in the OR when they are
cleaning up banging around and we are supposed to hear them. So much for HIPPA.
When I worked in the hospital, the docs
NEVER had a pen with them, so good gift.

I also once gave out pens at for Halloween at work, and I was very popular!

LOL
I worked on site for a hospital
that had voice recognition in their radiology department (PowerScribe). That was very easy and enjoyable, but I was paid hourly - no idea if it would have been profitable otherwise. They did cut half their staff when they made the switch, so that might give you an idea on pay. You can do about twice as much I guess? Hope it goes well!
20 years ago, MTs worked at the site, using typewriters.
Those who moved with the times and learned to use technology kept their jobs. The description of MT is changing and we need to be ready to change with it.
Do any of you think that offshoring is going to turn into one awful mess at some point, and MT work will come back home, because I do. This is like an accident waiting to happen, with records going out of the country. It's bad enough that medical records are being stolen here out of the backs of cars and from curbside dumping of computers, but just one unethical MTSO in another country who has access to records and can hold a US company hostage could pull the rug out from under the offshoring system. The same is true of other aspects of what's happening here. When some hospital is sued because of sloppy physician records that the Dr. entered into an EHR, and investigations start happening, we could see some tightening up of what is going on. Things have been pretty slack for a couple of years. That could change as fast as a CEO is put in the slammer for scamming investors.

YES, your email has COMPLETE protection on this site. We have worked VERY hard to make sure
that e-mail addresses are protected.  Spheris did not glean your email address from this site.  In the meantime, if you enter your email address in the E-mail field, you can be emailed, but the sender cannot see your email address.  They have no idea WHAT your email address is.  ONLY if YOU reply to them will the sender then find out what it is.  If you have further questions, email me and we'll discuss it.
Love Judge Judy but love Judge Joe
Brown. I often wonder how many of the people involved in Judge Joe's cases have to go home and look up in the dictionary what he said to them. Some of them just have blank faces staring at him when he is giving them a lecture, w/o a clue of what he is actually saying to them.

Ability to get job is what matters most
Yes,Andrews and M-Tec are more expensive than a CC, but if you want to work from home, the companies that are looking to hire you don't know if your CC program is adequate. Some are, some aren't, and there are lots of them around the country. The companies know that if you successfully completed Andrews or M-TEC, you are likely to succeed. There are so many posts on these boards from newbies who can't find jobs, yet M-TEC and Andrews grads get hired. I was hired fresh out of school by a large national, worked there 3 years, and was just hired by a smaller MTSO. Getting both jobs was a breeze. I have never had to test for a job. Both companies told me they hired me because I am an M-TEC grad, and they did not feel testing was necessary.
I work on Winscribe. There is the ability to
see which MTs are on Winscribe when you go into it. They also can see how many minutes it took to transcribe a report. They probably do averages. I do not know who you work for but I tend to follow the eight hour shift with two breaks and a lunch. It is easy for me since I came out of a hospital setting where I had to work that way.
I do have a recommendation. The Phillips comes with the ability

to download twice and I would make sure I set that up.  Download to the file that will be coming to you.  Then use the backup download to a file that is totally separate.  I call it backupvoicefiles.  I have found files in the backupvoicefiles that for some reason didn't come to me in the regular file. They would have been lost if I didn't know to check this. Phillips has no explanation for why this happens. I have been most happy with the Phillips equipment especially since I figured this part out. When the girls are looking for work that he claims that dictates and I have not transcribed, I know the approximate numbers to check and have them go into the backupvoicefile folder and check to see if it is there.

Good luck.  My doctors love the Phillips better than they did the Olympus and much fewer problems.

Must have been my ability to overlook. Now that it's pointed out,
I did scroll back down and see a bit. Guess I'll go back to overlooking them again, life's easier that way.
Right on, JMO. Also, when I have the ability to choose dictations SM
from a list (which I don't have at my current work, darn), I like to gather up all the dictations I can find for bad dictators and do them together to learn that dictator right up front, instead of struggling over months. I'll also use them to put together a template, which if dictation's really horrible will include a whole pack of phrases he/she has been known to use, a grab bag of possibilities to scan over. May sound like a bother to some, but it's a real serenity-saver.
He's trying to take away my ability to give myself raises
He doesn't want to pay me for my templates, my macros. He's taking AWAY money from me. He wants to change my "line count" to key strokes, so he doesn't have to pay me for a few paragraphs when it only takes me a few Keystrokes to put the macro in. It's like he thinks I'm cheating him! Isn't that industry standard?? Also I don't have the ability to "raise my production" what I get is what I do, every day I finish all the work.
The problem I'm having is what I make with them won't cover my living expenses any longer. That's why I asked for the raise. I mean I know as an IC i don't "ask". They said no, and guess what I have to stick around until I find something else. I won't find something better I'm sure, so I have to change careers. I'm having a very hard time dealing with this. Maybe cause I'm young and I don't feel like I know what I want to do. I wanted to be able to stay at home and raise a family, and now that dream is shot.
I'm just very upset you know, just ranting a little :)
I admire your ability to forgive and hopefully this will all blow over - however, that being said,

please make sure that Animal Control did not list this as an "incident" so that it may not be used against your dog in the future, even if no charges were filed.  A lot of states have a strict "no bite or 3 bite" policy and would not want this to count against your dog later in life.  My brother-in-law's dog bit a child when it got tangled up in her bicycle wheels (granted she should not have been that close to the child in the first place), so we've learned to be very careful about our animals.

What if you post messages under a different SN (AOL gives you ability to create several).
I remember posting a response. Received an e-mail began which began with "Hi" and my name. This was rather unsettling as you can imagine.
My 10 yo dog has lost ability to use hind legs

She was put under anesthesia to have a large mass removed from her chest.  What I thought might be a malignant lump turned out to be lipoma.  She had hip dysplasia all her life and was arthritic but never thought she would lose use of hind legs.  Surgery was today.  Picked her up at 5:00 and now, 4 hours later, I am truly concerned.  She is a weinaraner.  I am to give her 10 mg of prednisone daily.

Geesh, I wondered why the vet didn't bring the dog with her when she talked to me.  And when we discussed surgery, I mentioend that anesthesia was hard on senior dogs (it was hard on me and I am healthy adult).

Just wondering here if she will recover.  Maybe smeone here knows something about this.  Thank you

What someone else is silly enough to pay you, has no bearing on your ability or character.
:+
I think tier level should be based on the ability
to transcribe jobs assigned to the particular tier. My first job as an MT (I worked in house) required that I do all work types including OP reports. We, of course, did not have tier levels assigned; we were paid hourly. But, we were required to do all work types.
I think any transcription service can well assess an MTs ability
requires so many test files to be transcribed is taking advantage of applicants.
We have the ability to see each others # of reports and # of lines. We are to report to super
visor when one person has done 150 exams a day but only has a minimum of lines typed. In radiology, it tends to average out. They are watching it for morale's sake as well as they figure if the MT who jumps jobs is probably cheating elsewhere in the job or her/his life. Too many ethical ones these days to settle for a cherrypickers.
It depends on your skill level, your speed, your ability to do the

Ask them to give you the ability to choose your work from the queue SM
They may refuse; but assuming you do have to sign off (I don't remember any more), you can explain that it takes too long. All they can do is refuse. Another--big--benefit is that you can choose several jobs in a row for a dictator or specialty you're having trouble with and learn in a day what can take months to learn coming through in dribbles.
Mine isn't working either. Wonder if they've taken that ability away or archived stuff so we

Who is anybody here to judge how somebody
lives their life, how much money they make, or where they live?  Just because somebody doesn't live the way you do (or would like to) doesn't make it wrong, and she should be proud to be living where she wants and to wake up every morning in a place she loves.  My house isn't the greatest house, but I love it and am proud that I am able to be buying it on my own. I don't see the need for people to be putting her down after she was ASKED to share details of her home.
to sm and tm...do not judge until you have

judge not, lest ye be judged

does that ring a bell....hmmmm?

Please don't judge
For some it does not make sense to leave the home when you add child care costs, expense of a car, gas, clothes, food and so on. Please don't judge. I like to think when my daughter is grown up, she will appreciate that I was home for her not that she had a nice vacation (you seem to keep mentioning that)or the finer things in life.
It is confusing. But it's the only way to actually judge how much you are...
getting paid for the exact same amount of work. As long as you work with the same big block of text, it works perfectly.
Judge Alex!
!
Does anyone like Judge Judy?
I think she's mean and rude!
Judge Judy
I think she makes a lot of incorrect judgements based on insufficient evidence and also sometimes refuses to hear evidence in someone's defense. I dont like her. I dont watch her anymore either.
I just think it's crappy to judge m
someone's ability to responsible by their credit report, especially in these times when you can make the same amount of money as you have been and have just the basics (no luxuries) and everything has gone up and you scrape to make ends meet.  I know many people like this now.  I've even read articles on how people are in worse credit card debt than ever because of what I just described and they're bridging the gap by having to charge x amount each month to get by.  It's very sad.  Because one's credit is poor most often isn't because of a lack of responsibility or willingness to pay, just life happening.
Well, if it is unchristianlike to judge and
condemn others for what they believe, then why do the born again or saved christians believe God does all of those things? I do not choose to be born again or saved because I simply do NOT believe that God judges or condemns. I believe if I simply live a good moral life free of major sin, I too will go to heaven. And I also like to believe that God forgives; and of course I'm not talking about murderers or just plain evil people here. It is so odd because it is the born again christians stating that if you are not saved or reborn that you basically may not be accepted in heaven. Doesn't that make God seem just a bit like a judging, condemning and almost evil being? Very strange religion if you ask me. JMO.
so quick to judge

come down to earth people.

can only judge from own experience
Maybe the other is so, or maybe it is mgmt speaking, who knows.
and you Judge only Certain Posters as Fools?

and only MQ Certain Posters upset and embarrass you?  why not address MQ Certain Posters rather than making blanket statements?

with all due respect you are backtracking big time and sliding a bit on the truth side.  read your posts over.  but that's okay.  kind of clintonish whether you like it or not.

You shouldn't be so quick to judge.
Those of us who haven't got as high a pedestal as you have made mistakes in our lives. It is not the child's fault we made a bad decision. Single mothers have it really rough and I should know.

The above poster did not make it sound like it had anything to do with her being a single mother.

I am married now but, at times, have been the "breadwinner" if you will, for my family. Would that make it sound better?

I don't want to be treated any better than anyone else, but I have had to do a lot of things.

The recruiter made a mistake. She should have never put the offer out there if she wasn't completely sure.
You can't judge a company by how often they hire. This could be
due to new accounts no turnover.

The truth is that most people look beyond the postings on this board and others because it is too hard to separate truth from fiction.
Don't be so quick to judge Supercuts. sm
The fact is there are bad hairstylists everywhere as much as there are fabulous ones. My sis worked for Supercuts for years , just recently left to start her own biz on the side after taking a cushy county job. She took a huge cliental with her also; she's really, really good at her job. The fact is places like Supercuts do so much more business than smaller salons and so generally those working there have a lot more experience than you might think. My whole family patrons our local Supercuts and most of the ladies there are really very good. There are one or two over the last couple years we have learned are not so good, so we just don't let them cut our hair. Can't beat the prices either.
Love Judge joe brown!
he's my fave
Judge Mathis my favorite!
What a sense of humor he has (plus sharp legal mind)! Both he and his bailiff--very cute!
What does Povitch have to do with Judge Judy?
:[
disagree - all bibles say Judge not....sm

Born agains that I have run into act like they have never sinned.....yeah....right....it's the reason they become born again to begin with, they wipe the slates clean once re-born as if the BAD never happened prior to them becoming born again.  Everyone that I have met (including the x-spouse who became born again after the divorce) just appears to me to be so darned hypocritical!

Just my nickel's worth.

Please dont judge all by the bad apples
Some of us are happy with what we do and are happy to lend a hand. Not all, or even the majority of us are rude. There are just a few that like the attention on these boards i think.
You can't judge people by what coast they live on....
I am originally from the East Coast and I am NOT a "nasty woman". The writer was cold hearted yes....but it doesn't give you the right to blame the East Coast. You could live anywhere...it depends how you were raised in the long run. I was taught to always treat others as I would expect to be treated...imagine that from an East Coast momma! Have a good day.
Who are you to judge? Most people gripe about their spouses,
Its called venting.    We're allowed to do that.
