Bringing the head lice post back up. This has been going around at my daughter's school.
Saturday, after having been checking her head all week, found lice on her head. Did the treatment on her, on me, DH and other daughter, just in case. Only youngest and myself apparently had them. Got rid of the lice, now need to deal with the eggs. No problem with daughter's head because I am meticulous and have been checking daily and removing anything I find. My problem is my own head. Oldest daughter tried to look through, but she had hard time, though she tried. Husband "I don't see anything", so not much help. I can't look at my own head, so my dilema is how do I get the eggs off my own head and keep them from rehatching? Any help/advice would be appreciated. Never gone throught his before.
POLL: Home School vs. Charter School vs. Public School vs. Priv ate School...
Pros and cons of each too. I have two little ones that will be starting school soon and I would like opinions on all. Thanks in advance! :)
Corporate greed is a rampant disease that will end up killing the American middle class....sm
These people never have enough, there are no scruples, In God We Trust is just something printed on currency instead of being a moral principle carried down by our Founders...the French started a revolution over this. I hate all war and violence, but how do we stop global economy as being the tool which the corporate entities use to rape the middle class workers? Sorry for the rant, bad week....year!
This opens up the possibility of
identify theft.  What if they do not keep the info in a secure location. Employees could get access to it.  What if somebody hacked into their system.  How secure are their files and system.  I don't truse anybody.I would quit before I gave this information to anybody.  You could very easily have credit cards opened in your name, etc.
AutoCorrect-can you explain how it opens on F key
I saw the post below about AutoCorrect and opening it on an F key. Can you explain how that works. I am now using a Word program and would like to learn the ins and outs of AutoCorrect.

How can I set Shorthand so that it opens when I boot up?

Spi opens shop in Vietnam
The latest newsletter states Spi (formerly Cymed) has opened up shop in Vietnam.  I guess they have run out of shops in India and the Philippines.  I asked a vet if they speak any better English than the other two and he said NO.  I guess I give up on finding a good QA position with headquarters in the good old US of A.
Talking about VR always opens up a can of worms
I love it, others dislike it, even saying the hate word. I can make $20 and up per hour on the platform I use. From what I read here, some are not so lucky to have a very good system and it slows them down to where their pay has been cut to a large degree. I love escription, have used it now for about 4 years and really hate to straight type anymore. I find the ESLs, at least where I work, are so much easier with VR than having to sort through what they are trying to say. I will say how a system is trained and who works on it has all to do with what kind of reports you have. You could have almost perfect reports with a good system that has learned well and then you could get a clunker with loads on teaching the machine various ways and that is where the problem lies with VR.
lice - it is okay
I haven been through this twice with my daughter. I caught it from her and both of us have long hair. Make sure that you also spray the bare mattress after you remove the sheets wtih sprays that are designed to kill the eggs. Any stuff animals that maybe in the children's room put in black plastic garbage bags and leave in there for a couple of weeks and this will kill any possible infestation there. After you treat, even though you do not see any eggs or live live in the hair, you need to do 2 more subsequent treatments just to make sure.

This should make you feel a little better - lice is not an infestation that "dirty" people get. Lice cannot live in hair that is not well groomed, they cannot live in the oils and such. The "host" has to have good hygiene. That little bit of info got me throught it twice. Just take a deep breath and relax, takes the steps and I promise it will go away.
head lice
I have a question for all you moms out there.  My husband called me from work and said that the day care called his secretary and told her to pick up her daughter because she had head lice.  My son attends the same day care but is in a different group because he is older that his child with the head lice.  I told the day care to call me if even one in my son's group has lice and I will pick him up right away.  What would you all do?  I send him to day care because if he is home he and his 12-year-old brother fight all day and I don't get anything done.  He is five.  Should I just go get him and not chance it?  Any advice appreciated.
head lice
There was an extensive breakout in my child's school at one time.  All the kids had it.  I would just go get some Nix and treat him now.  When my son got them I did not know you could not see the things.  The only way I was able to tell was to hold a sheet of white paper and comb his hair catching it on the paper, they look like little specks of pepper, but if you watch closely they change shapes (move).  I would not be too horrified, it is bound to happen in day care.
head lice
I have a Robi-comb that I use every time I think there's a chance my girls may have gotten around lice. It's made by EpiLady. It's basically a bug zapper for the hair. You run it through their hair and it zaps all live bugs. It doesn't hurt the child unless you happen to touch one side to their ear and the other to their head. I've done that! It feels kind of like static electricity. But it's deadly to lice. It will kill them instantly. But keep in mind this only kills the live bugs. It doesn't do a thing for the nits. After I check for live bugs I always check for nits - especially at the base of the neck and behind the ears.
head lice
Also remember that the nits can take up to 2 weeks to hatch. So keep checking!! They start out tight on the head - usually dark brown. Then after they hatch they turn white.

I've been through lice two times. Been there, done that, don't EVER want to go there again!!!

Good luck!!!
Head lice
It has been 15 years since I had to deal with that but still remember it vividly.   Throw all your combs and brushes out and replace.  Give everyone their own.   There is also a wide comb that comes with the treatment.   If you comb your hair you will see lice on the comb if you have any. Wash all your bed linens even pillows. Put all stuff animals in a garbage bag closed for 10 days that will kill the lice.  If you wear hats wash them.  Also I had to spray my car cushions with a treatment that on the market at that time.  Also your couch cushions etc.   You never think you can get rid of them but you will.  At the time my daughter had them her whole dance class had them.  I think she probably got them when the kids put their belongings in the cubby holes  or top of others coats because her regular class did not.  Hope this helps.
Lice is a pain in the rear (and head) sm
My kids have had it before and what a tedious job it is to get rid of and make sure it stays away. Daily vacuuming of furniture, beds, etc. I took any and all stuffed animals and just stuck them in garbage bags for a month (they say 2 weeks, but I like to be safe). I looked for nits every day (brings new term to nit picking). I also used vinegar with the combing as it seemed to loosen up any remaining nits.

The dirty hair theory appears to be true, so I started using hair gel on my kids' heads, but we also have moved in the meantime, and they haven't had it since. The school district where we were seemed to have a huge outbreak at least twice a year.
lice...old fashion remedy works best...been there
this was an ongoing problem year after year after year. With long hair being the normal thing, was a pain. AND after spending a small fortune on the over-the-counter lice crap that NEVER worked and we seemed to have them again and again...one egg can start it all again...I went for my grandmothers solution.

SIMPLE...GOOD, CHEAP OLD FASHIONED KEROSENE.

Not fancy...smells horrible, BUT did the trick.

You will have to use a very VERY gentle shampoo after soaking the head but once I did this, it was literally the end of them. No re-infestations...no repeat soakings...one time...shampooed with baby shampoo about 3 times and next day deep conditioned for dryness. Her hair and mine was fine.

just my 2 cents
My kids brought lice home from day camp....sm

or brought it to day camp. One way or the other, this stinks.

Other than the usual shampoo; comb with a good metal nit comb; clean, spray, bug, and/or bag everything in the house, any other suggestions? I even bought a steam cleaner for the furniture and rugs.

I'm getting dirty looks at work. The kids want to go back to camp, but I'm worried about what the other kids are going to do/say. I'm keeping them home until next week. Need advice reassurance from mom who have been here.

Eggrolls with plum sauce, fried rice (flied lice), and eggdrop soup.

I did that with 2 kids with time mgmt and a high school girl who babysat 3 days a week after school

The cost of running a private school or any school is expensive....
Why do you think public schools are so run down and can't find good teachers?  Because the government and people to not put forth the effort or $$$$ to improve the educational system.
The School of Hard Knocks is the best MT school

Can't be V-day, most of us have been out for 2 weeks.

I got a second job 3 weeks ago to
help with our debt.  Hubby cannot work.  No children left at home. It is tiring, but I am hoping to get ahead.
Going on 4 weeks.
I type with a headache and it is so wearing on me and my body. I cant get rid of it and it kills me. I went to the doctor and he said it was from my neck muscles strained and sinus both, so he put me on some medication. I am not sure it is taking it away though, since it has been a week with just little improvement. I have had my eyes checked and everything. What are rebound headaches exactly? I just wish I could get rid of myn as well.
Four weeks for me, sm
I went back at 4 weeks after having c-section because I was working at home.  My husband was not happy, but I only worked about 3-4 hours a day in the beginning because I had the baby, but it really was not that bad.  I would try to be most productive when the baby was sleeping.
Yes, 4-6 weeks. nm
xx
I just have one done this way 2 weeks ago - sm
no big deal. I did conscious sedation, though I did not have a choice, but I would think this is the safer way to go (cheaper too). I experienced no discomfort at all during or afterwards. Don't remember the colonoscopy at all. Last thing I remember is them injecting my IV, saying it would sting (it did), next thing I knew my kids and friend who brought me were standing in there looking at me. I was very groggy though, half slept on the drive home, came home and conked out for 2 hours. Awoke feeling much more alert and back to normal. Just make sure you follow the prep instructions to a "T". Got a copy of my report which said my prep was excellent!
I did after about 1-1/2 weeks

but I should have quit sooner (Medquist). They misrepresented (I'm being nice here) the type of work I would have. When there was work (constantly ran out), I spent most of my time looking up names of physicians for the demographics. It was a nightmare. After a few reports, I'd get the dreaded "There are no more reports. Please press...."  Then I'd call the office and if I was lucky, someone would return my call in an hour....Like I said, I didn't want to feel like a quitter either, but I finally figured that they weren't treating me like a valuable employee, why should I hang in there when no one would even return my calls?  My previous employer took me right back, and  thankfully hadn't found a permanent replacement for my accounts!  If I ever search again, I will try the new place out first part-time before jumping into the flame.

Every day for two weeks now, I was out of
work for months and thankfully, even right before Christmas, no doubt, I have a job now that keeps me busy, almost busier than I want to be, but I am making so much money right now, I don't care! It's feast or famine!
I wonder about this. Every few weeks
someone puts up a post that they just discovered this wonderful website. What is going on?????
A few weeks ago someone

on this forum was saying she bought 2003 with 2008 Works for 48.00 or so on E-Bay, from a seller in Arizona.  Another person wrote a message that it wasn't 2003 with 2008 Works but 2002, but the original poster said it was INDEED 2003 and she was using it!  You might try search?

I remember this post because it interested me in that I needed a copy of 2003 & was willing to buy it through E-Bay.  Luckily, my hubby works for computer manufacturer in testing division.  They had an unused copy of 2003 that they didn't really need or want as they said this was "old technology" & they let me have it!    Made my day!

No...not per week/2 weeks.....
Per PAYPERIOD which is 15-16 days.

Part-time IC .. 6000 per payperiod.
Usually in 2 weeks I know if it will work out or not. nm

I am starting a new Rad job in 2 weeks-$16.50/hr
nm
I have only been at it for a couple of weeks..
Having several years experience, I thought I could step right in and nail it.  There are a variety of issues/concerns most importantly the accents, getting use to the different accounts (I have several) and unrealistic expectations I have set before myself.  It is a good thing I get paid by the hour because if I got paid by the line, I would be starving!!!  Some files are easy to zip through, others are are a real dragon!!!!  I am going to give it more time though.  I have wanted this position for a while and I don't give up easy!  Thanks for letting me vent.
This happens maybe once a week, once in two weeks sm

So not very often...just....It was just something that my dad never did with us and I don't like it. I've told him that but he just shrugs his shoulders about it and says it is no big deal, even when she points and says like, what's that?

 I don't know, am I a prude? I just don't think it is appropriate.

Are you using dial-up? The last 3 weeks
when I come to the main board I get a page loading message and it takes a minute to load.  I have high-speed cable, so if you have dial-up the connection may be timing out and you need to adjust settings.  l
About 4 weeks now - and still lingering
with some bronchitis with it. Can't shake it, even with antibiotics.
For WEEKS I had this. It's finally gone. nm

My son just had it 2 weeks ago, very nasty.
He was so sick that he ended up sleeping on the bathroom floor (worse than a bad hangover) with vomiting and diarrhea. It lasted almost 24 hours and he was horribly weak for the next day as well.
Well, there's 52 weeks in a year so that's not a bad sm
salary for what amounts to part time work, even considering self-employment tax - home office deductions, mileage, equipment, etc. It beats slapping burgers at McDs!
It has been so slow the last few weeks (sm)

And the hospitals have been busy lately, that's the funny thing!

Does anybody know of a service that will let you work part-time a very minimal amount of hours, like 10 hours a week?  I haven't seen a service like that in a long time.  TIA

Did four hard weeks with them...
Worked night shift (11p-7a) and tried to sleep during the day while munchkin was away-- Sup, tech support (because you cannot get tech support worth a darn on the night shift), and benefits coordinator would call all day long and THEN send me an email. Last straw, at 11:08 pm night shift sup called my house to see if I was going to log in--- I was reading and responding to email!!! (since they were not calling me anymore, had lots of email). Not to mention they tried the ol' swithceroo on accounts with me... all the sudden in the middle of the night I started getting another hospital. Could not stand it.
I just started there a few weeks ago, and my second day there I ran out! NM

One of our MTs just went a couple weeks ago. nm

Everyone stays 6 to 8 weeks. sm
They usually quit when they realize they have to wait to get paid for work they did a month ago. Also, known to not pay employees their last check when they quit. I think anyone there after 8 weeks is long-term.LOL Few employees there who come here to defend them, but most posts about this place are thumbs down.
4 weeks' time

35 in 4 weeks!! Amazing!!
Thanks for the post.  I believe my weight will come off fairly quickly, as I said, I am a carb freak as of now.  I understand the incorporation of "good carbs" after the induction phase.  It is just that the induction phase is going to be tough!!!! I want to lose about 30 pounds, could really lose about 40 and would be happy wtih 20!!!
I'm going there in just a couple weeks.
I'm going to Sedona to check out Valley Verde School for my son. Are you familiar with it?
This weeks Idol
Hi all!  What are your thoughts on last nights performances?  I thought Kelly was just absolutely awful.  Although, Katherine should be thanking her lucky stars that Kelly was as bad as she was, otherwise, I am sure that she would be getting the boot tonight.  I thought that Elliot was the best by far last night.  Chris is my second place.  Taylor and Paris both did a good job. My final three are still Elliot, Chris, and Taylor.
I had by 10 year old done at 2 weeks and
my 9 year old had her first set done at 6 months and she wanted her second set at age 7 so we went ahead and did it.  Now she has bragging rights because my oldest is afraid to do it again, lol.
