Where I am, using Winscribe, the supervisor on duty routine gives updates (sm)

Posted By: Thank you supervisor! on 2005-08-22

with who is working on a particular account, how many jobs there are, if any have been kicked back (she/he can tell as they are out of sequence, obviously taken into someones local queue and then returned to the pool. The name of those working at any given time is announced, this lets us know if someone comes on board during unscheduled hours without clocking in.

It is great for me as I follow the rules. We are not to take jobs into the local queue (cherrypicking) and we are not to work outside of scheduled hours unless it is granted and there is ample work for the person coming on board so they do not take away from the regularly scheduled MTs. I love my job!

It's really not a great idea to disable Windows updates. Just because updates are scheduled to be
installed, does not mean 7.0 will be automatically installed on your pc.  You will always receive a notification when installing anything other than critical updates, which 7.0 is not.
The key to doing this is you have to have a routine and follow it. (sm)
What might work for one person may not work for the next, but f you make it YOUR routine it will become a regular part of your day. For me (and I've been at this for a long, long time) my best hours are in the early morning. I get up, shower, get dressed, put the coffee on, take care of whatever needs taken care of so it won't interfere with your day (feed the cat, let the dog out, whatever you would normally do if you had to leave your house for the day and go out and work). Then sit and work for 2 hours, take a short break, work another 2 hours, break for lunch, and so on until your work day is finished. It also helps if you keep your work area clean so you can have a fresh desk to start off with. NO TV. Don't answer the phone while you're working to take personal calls. Do that on your break. These are just some ideas that work for me.
My exercise routine
Walk to the fridge, open door (works arms), lift food (good strength training, lifting weights), put in mouth, close door, walk back to desk while lifting cup of coffee to lips.  I gave my legs and arms a good workout, also my mouth.  Transcription is hard.  But I know if I keep up my exercise routine, I will be buff.
That is pretty routine for them to want
I have had both office accounts and surgery center accounts that requested that I send them that information.  I'd rather not have to do it, but sometimes you just have to do what comes with the territory.
I have them for routine procedures for
the same doc -- T&A, cholecystectomies, appy's, and a lot of my orthopedic doctors. I also have them for ROS and PE exams. I just leave jump markers for values, right/left, and things like that.
I think getting back into a structured routine
may be difficult and then there is the office politics.   At least you can do your time and come home and leave work at work.
What is your best at-home work routine?

I'm curious what hours you work, how long and often do you take breaks.  What schedule allows you to be most productive? e.g., frequent short breaks, less frequent longer ones, split shifts, etc.

Oh honey, sounds like my daily routine.

You just gotta push through.  I've noticed that as my kids get older, it has gotten somewhat better.  I have a 9 and 11 year old and they have gotten to the point of seeing after themselves while I'm working.  They were 3 and 5 when I started and it was really tough.  Now If they make a mess, they clean it up themselves.  Unless the house is on fire, someone is dying, etc. they are to leave me alone when the headset is on.  I have had to really draw the line with them.  It didn't happen overnight, it took quite a while for them to understand.  Fortunately my husband understands all this and has really helped me work with them on this issue.

Friends and family on the other hand haven't been so easy to train.  I screen my calls with caller ID and let the machine get the ones I don't have time to deal with.  My machine has a message stating that "I am working at the moment and am unable to answer your call.  Please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible."  I have also had a put a sign on my front door stating "Please Do Not Disturb.  I am currently working and unable to visit at this time.  Please come back after 4:00 p.m., I will be available then."  I had to do this because people just couldn't seem to get it.  Just because I was at home, they thought they could just drop in.  I even have some to still ring the doorbell because they think that sign isn't for them.  But you know what...I feel that is very rude and disrespectful of them.  They can sit out there all day for all I care because until I'm finished working, I won't answer.

Your not alone in all of this.  I believe this is what most of us who work at home go through.  Eventually it will get better but you must put some rules into place for everyone and enforce them.  I know with very young children it is hard for them to understand this but if you begin now helping them understand, then it will get easier as they grow.  Also, if you have older children that can help with the younger ones, give them an incentive to help you out.  You've just got to be creative with it and find what works for you.

Hope this helps!

This would make a good Seinfeld routine.
Of course probably only MTs would understand the jokes. Somebody needs to write a book about MTs and what they go through. It really would be touching and funny, and a bit tragic, I think. It could be marketed in the Stedmen's line of books or something. It could have cartoons. This title where did QA come from? This makes me want to be all creative. Of course, this MT is full of talk, but not a whole lot of action. LOL.
Be cautious...great bait and switch routine, you can do much better...
they also outsource overseas (a percentage). you will do well if you have low self-esteem. everyone great until you get thrown to supervisor...hehe, you'll see.

my opinion, my experience.
*slowly* - hey, I'm off-duty! ;-)

Maybe jury duty?

besides jury duty
He could have very old tickets that were never paid.
jury duty

Has anyone gotten out of jury duty from being an MT? I get paid by line...no health insurance....no work no pay......Any advise for when I have to go present myself.

TIA.

Jury Duty
I work in house but still do not get full benefits.  It is too late to fill out paperwork. They didn't seem to care. Now I have to present myself in front of them that day....
Jury duty

I have been excused 4 times in the past  year just by writing a letter, have a small MTSO.  But last time they said that was the last time I would be excused.  so who knows what happens if I get called again. I don't get called for 45 years and then 4 times in one year.  Weird.   They will let you off, have your service or docs write letters also if you need to.

Jury Duty
I'm from PA and I went the day I was supposed to show up for the preliminary questioning. After all questions were answered, the very last one was "If you are selected for jury duty, would this be a hardship on you?" Of course, I answered yes and the reason for it. I was excused.
jury duty

For those who have had jury duty, when you get interviewed and questioned, how does that go? Are you alone with this person? Does everyone hear your answers?

Thanks!

jury duty
I was selected for jury duty three times in one year, and chosen for one trial. During the interview process, you are in the room with all the jury selectees and your answers are not private. Everyone hears. It is just a simple pretty much do you agree or disagree type of thing. If I remember right, we filled out questionaires previous to being selected for the possible jurers. That is how they decide who to pick from. but the interview part is not one on one, but with everyone. No biggee...at least I didn't think so. I was chosen for a jury trial and it lasted about a week, but it was not a sensational trial and no sequester was needed, but it did take time away from work and that was costly. What I received for mileage did not begin to cover what I lost for appearing and it took almost a month to get the money. Just my experience. I don't know if every state/county/city is different.
Jury Duty.
Here in Florida, they had the judge, DA and defense attorney with the defendant in the court room along with all the prospective jurors. They explained what the case was about, how long the trial was supposed to last and if anyone would have a hard ship being on the jury for that long. They then asked everyone questions about drinking and driving since it was a DUI case. You had to raise your hand when they asked the group question since it was a yes or no type question. Sometimes they would pick on you to elaborate on what happened in your case. They also asked individual questions and everyone gets to hear your answers. I want to be on a jury but due to my brothers being well known to the DA, judges and police officers because of their troublemaking I never get picked.
jury duty
Have any of you been called to jury duty?

In the past I had been excused because I care for my disabled husband, but because I don't have to hand feed him and take him to he bathroom and dress him, then I cannot be excused.

Just finished jury duty....
Ended up getting almost as much reimbursement for jury duty as I would have working, when mileage was figured in. Only had to be there 2 days, so it wasn't a hardship. Met some interesting people and was overall a positive experience. I was VERY reluctant, but was glad I did it.
Jury Duty Mandatory
Here in NYS jury duty is mandatory. You can get out of it once or twice, I believe, but then you have to go, they won't excuse you any more. Hopefully, your State is more lenient.
I've had jury duty twice....sm
the first time was a civil case and the second time it was a drug bust case. The first time the potential jurors were just asked generalized questions like "do you know anyone here in the courtroom" or "have you been involved in a similar case before?" The drug bust case they asked more specific questions. Both times they asked the questions where everyone could hear responses. I've been told this is pretty much the normal unless you're being interviewed for a high profile case.

Good luck and remember that in most places only about 10% of the people called for potential jury duty actually ever serve on a jury.
Jury duty in California
Everybody heard the answers to the questions; what did I do for a living, have I ever been a juror, had I ever been in a car accident, things that might pertain to that certain case.  It was a car accident in a parking lot.  I actually got chosen for the panel and was fighting staying awake through the whole thing it was soooooo boring.  After sitting in that hard chair for nearly 8 hours on the first day, I got up and could hardly walk.  I had developed a DVT sitting in that same spot all day and could no longer be a juror (oh darn).  Because of this, I cannot be called for jury duty anymore.
I was called to jury duty once, but
I sat there all day long with the judge being one of the attorneys I used to work with/for a few years earlier. I knew I couldn't be picked because of that, but they made me sit there anyway. I did get paid for sitting there all day, so it wasn't that bad. I really wish I could serve. Maybe there'll be a next time.

the whole software was installed via net, and they say there has been no problem ever with that with other users, and it seems this is the latest software they are having.
That is what I thought! Maybe just something stupid like jury duty?!?! nm

Where I live jury duty notices do not come
certified mail.  Maybe he has a ticket he hasn't paid.  Has he had a small claims against anyone - could be payment owed him.
Your DUTY to say industy is headed offshore.

They don't do yearly updates and never have. If you must
get hysterical about something at least get the real information about what you are carrying on about. Statements like this just make folks dismiss what you are saying because you don't know what you are talking about.
Anyone more updates on MQ bankruptcy?
When I read that note on this board a week or two ago, it got me really worried.  I'm working really hard right now training on a new MQ account, and the thought of losing my job in the near future makes me want to cry.  Any feedback out there?  Does anyone know what's going on?
Go to CNN.com for all of your news updates.
I also get my local newspaper online free.  Why pay and kill trees when the highlights are all on the internet?

You may have to update your calendaring programs and some cell phones as well.

Did security updates; seems all better now. -- nm

I have an HP and intermittently get updates for it...sm
Might try that before you uninstall and reinstall. Good luck!
My jury duty papers didn't come in certified. sm
They were just left in the mailbox.
Anyone here use WinScribe?

How is it to work on?

Winscribe is not my fav!
I find the sound quality on Winscribe to range from horrid to decent ... usually somewhere in between.  As some authors are consistently worse than others I believe it may have to do with the recording devices on their end, or their recording environment. But I don't really know enough about "the other end" to say one way or the other.  I am getting ready to go to a C-phone account so thrilled to hear that the sound quality is better there!
has anybody used Winscribe before?
I'm new to using it and am noticing some sound-quality issues.  We went from using a Dictaphone C-phone to Winscribe and there is a BIG difference in the quality of the voice files.  There is hissing noise behind every dictation and with some the hissing and scratching noise (like a poor phone connection) is so bad the dictation is like Swiss cheese.  Anybody else noticing this or can give me a heads up on what might be going on?  I know it's not my headphones because I've gone from tons of cheaper sets ($30-$60) to an extremely expensive set of Bose Quietcomforts and even those aren't helping much.  TIA
Winscribe
Does anyone know if there is a spellchecker that will work with Winscribe.

Winscribe

Has anyone who has had Winscribe for their work ever encountereda a problem where it kept saying that either the URL was incorrect or to check my internet connection.  I cannot find a solution for the life of me.

Waiting for what? They don't do yearly updates.
What else is there to say? But if you want to keep on whining about something that is untrue be my guest.
Stedman's with the yearly updates. nm

MS Word has updates, just as Windows does. Have you
.
I was only going to get the book, but no more online updates. sm
You need to get the CD in order to get updates. Ellen Drake said on www.mtchat.com that the CD is much better than last year's.
It will still work, but will not allow you to receive updates.
