Who's laughing? I'm just shocked that you take offense to the person who is correcting

Posted By: sm on 2005-07-12
In Reply to: I'm the one who needs to get a life? - Oh,yeah.

YOUR mistakes, rather than the morons who are making these ridiculous errors, making the MT profession look silly.  These mistakes should not have been made.  I'm embarrassed for you my dear, not laughing at you.

    Correcting commands in Dragon

    Good Morning Ladies and Gents:

I am a reasonably expert user of Dragon, having used it for about four years. I recently bought a new computer, and put Dragon 7.30 on it. I got the new XP 64 bit. Wow, what a dream for the Dragon.

However, while I had no problem with this with my previous computer, with this one it will not follow the command "new line" when I want the cursur to drop down to the beginning of the next line.

It keeps typing the word "united." It will however follow the command "new paragraph." When I ask it to correct "united," it gives me options, none of which are the one I want.

    I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks,

    John

    depends how often you're correcting
If it is only a word once in a while that your are back spacing and correcting, that's one thing, but if you are constantly going back and correcting as you go you are losing a lot of productivity.  I try to put words I constantly misspell or mistype (like "adn" for and) in my Expander so there's not much correction.
As an IC MT, how much should I charge for correcting their mistakes?

This happens often lately, due to being new at dictation.  I never charge when it is my mistake, but lately I am wasting an hour a day making corrections to their previous reports.  Should I charge by the time it takes to make the corrections and also to reprint the report? What is the norm?

    Thanks again!

    Correcting Dictator's Grammar

I transcribe for one professional that says statements such as: "She DID SEEM in agreement". "She DID START to cry" and "The mother DID COME BACK to the office"  My supervisor told me she doesn't care for how this sounds either and that we just need to go ahead and type it as is.  Of course I am going to abide by what my supervisor says.  Is it just "cut and dry" when transcribing to type EXACTLY what is being said? - - - I also type for another professional with a PhD who will dictate and use certain words out of context, but I know what he means to say.  Do we just TACTFULLY address individual issues like this when they arise with those who are dictating?

doing VR you get paid for reading and correcting
the mistakes, line per line, line per line.....to the end of the document.
What is there not to understand or do you think that reading and correcting mistakes is not work?
They'll NEVER learn the stuff I'm correcting
I've had to do editing of offshored work at two different places now and you see the same mistakes over and over and over. I have started to think that (a) if companies ever get rid of their US QA people they will quickly lose accounts to the non-offshoring companies and/or (b) they will get sick of paying people to edit all the time and stop the offshoring.

    One can always hope.

And no, I'm not quitting my job either. I agree with it in principle, and I feel bad sometimes for not doing it "on principle" but the reality of my getting a good paycheck prevails. Alas, my children must have their school supplies and shoes.
I wasn't correcting grammer - I never heard of this before. nm

As long as you're correcting people, think about "English."

    I'm shocked as well ... here's where ...
Look at the recipe thread here on page 1 of the Main Forum.

Open the post by "Just Observing".

There are ads displayed on the right, down the page where the "latest" posts are listed.

One of them is for BPO Experts. It is an ad for Indian offshoring of MT, coding, different types of HIM work.

I am quite shocked myself to see this ad on this website.

    I am shocked
I still can't believe it. I did a search for MT companies and came upon Zydoc. Searched here but found only one person asking a question. Started filling out the form on their website and got to the last page and it asked me to enter my CC info!!!
    I was shocked!
Ace really deserved to go home last night. I can't even believe that it was Bucky.
    I am shocked!
What a jerk that doctor was! I am sorry you got in trouble for that, but I am sure you flagged it and did not just send it in as a final.

    You go, girl!
    I was so shocked!
I could not believe it when I read what was on this web site.

    I am shocked that.....
companies even use PayPal to pay.  PayPal is not a very legitimate company and is KNOW for freezing funds, over-charging fees, etc.  Years ago, Paypal decided to freeze $3,000 that I had in an account to "investigate" it, although it was clearly shown where the money came from.  It took me a year to get my money back.  I found out that they do this sometimes to invest different monies I guess.  Crazy company, I wouldn't use them!
Thank you - that is what I have, but wanted to make sure as the doctor is correcting a previous repo

I was shocked too. Are there that many pedophiles?
    a
You're welcome. I was shocked at some of it too. You know, there are
in stores and bakeries now too!!!!  Lots more opportunities to be sitting in a danger zone in case you happen to be called in to be tested out of the blue and there you stand with you teeth in your mouth (and a few muffin crumbs on your blouse)...failing a drug screen.. yikes.
Yes, shocked here, too. As my 3 teens have
pointed out, dear Cat is sure strutting her you-know-whats. Yuck. Chris was absolutely stunned, and so were a lot of viewers. We're not even gonna bother - the remaining 3 are nice enough, but talented enough? No way!!
Very true...I was shocked as well
at least we can take comfort in knowing that SOMEONE will give him a recording contract.
I am shocked you would even question. sm
Your job is to transcribe the dictation.  It is not your report - it belongs to who signs it.  And unless you cannot understand a phrase or word - you blank it.  Sounds like that was a clear sentence.  Shaking my head.
The more I read, the more shocked I am
Your pharmacy cannot tell your husband your prescription is ready. Where does this madness end? People on here are paranoid, the whole world seems like going in the same direction. You cannot call someone's name in a physician's office, your next of kin cannot be told your prescription is ready- on and on and on. All this political correctness is just a bunch of bunk. I could use a lot more words to describe but not allowed to do so here.
yes, by the 2nd offense they ought to be

    Sorry, no offense to you.

No offense was taken. I'm just sorry that your

    no offense

no offense taken now that sm
I understand. I was not familiar until today that AHDI is the former AAMT. I have not read an AAMT publication in years. I don't particularly like their "core" values, politics etc. I was just doing the CMT thing for myself as well as other schooling/certifications. My way of coming back into the real world after a very devastating illness!

    Don't worry about it really.

    Take care
    No offense but -
With all due respect, being able to stay home with one's children is NOT a perfect reason to become an MT. I believe there are certain personality characteristics, IMO, that one must have in order to be successful in this industry.

~First of all, in order to be a *successful* MT, one must have not only an excellent grasp of the English language, both written and spoken, but also an 'ear' for picking up and deciphering various other native tongues as well.

~On top of that, one must have above-average instincts and inherent skills for research, as this career requires not simply typing what you think you hear, but many times doing extensive investigation to make sure you are indeed hearing correctly.

~An excellent memory; the ability to recall the spelling of a medication or a syndrome or a genetic disorder without having to look it up each time it is encountered is invaluable in this field.

~Last but definitely not least, I feel in order to be successful in this field, one must have a keen interest in the medical field. These aren't simply words we're transcribing; they're legal medical documents. If one does not have a love of the medical field and an enjoyment of learning something new almost daily, this is NOT an appropriate career.

I'm sorry, but with all due respect, you choosing to enter a field simply to stay home with the kiddies is not enough. Without the necessary drive and willingness to learn, one is destined for failure. Unfortunately, it sounds as if perhaps you already have failed.

Please overlook any typos; I've been working 10 hours and my dinner is awaiting me :-)
I work for the person. I know. Very excellent person, personally and business-sense.
It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
I am shocked at how some people responded to this.....
Everyone has their bad days....that doesn't mean you throw your marriage away and decide you are better off w/o them. I know where you're coming from having a husband of my own that some days I could just kill but most days I love him to death and don't know what I would do w/o him. Don't pay these people any attention or let them get you down. Vent when you need to...
I for one was shocked at the line rate
When I first started out.  They start some at 5 cpl, are you kidding me?  10 years ago I started at 0.0775 cpl.  How can they do this and get away with it?  Why are people signing up to do this?
I'm shocked. Sherrie come on out and talk to us
Dont you owe us that much?? We have supported this site for years.. Talk to us.
I wouldn't trust this at all! I'm shocked you do!

    :
that's hilarious! No offense, of course!
Sounds like something I would do... I actually did LOL!
No offense, but couldn't you have used
of your own? You could get one from another company, I'm sure, but would it reflect the information you need to know?

For example, if you need orthopedic MTs versus ophthalmologic MTs, asking which is correct in Tenon versus tenon or sub-Tenon verus subtenon would be important and might not be on a test you pull from someone else.

I could be wrong, but I'm wondering if you haven't had to do much testing personally that you wouldn't know what you would want in your own test??
No offense meant, but how do you know this? Again, I am not s/m
trying to be rude--this is an honest question. Is there someone we can read about these differences (production-based versus other)? Thanks in advance.
Point was is the person willing to make up for the slack of the person who types 1 job when there is

if that is all they WANT to type.   Is the person who wants to be a supervisor willing to make up for those people?

You have crap supervisors, editors and mts in the business like you have good ones.   Sadly, the really good ones of all of them are few and far between.

I am shocked too! And the way that Ryan Seacrest just blurted it out...sm
I did not like that one bit!  That was so mean how he told him he was the one going home!  It was a shocker, but he will be one getting a contract sometime in the near future.  I hope Taylor wins!  I will for sure be keeping my phone lines busy next time - just goes to show that you better be calling and voting for the one you like most.  Never would have thought Chris would have gotten voted off tonight....
No offense, but this made me laugh.....

Where do you live that you get polite customer service from McDonald's?  lol.  I'm lucky if they acknowledge me when they stick their hand out the window for my money.

I agree. I was shocked too. Laurie seems irritated; thought a little

I'm raising my children alone. I know how it is.
I believe the original poster is the one doing the scoring, and she is SHOCKED at how low the score
is for the MT, and she doesn't even know what to say to the MT under comments. I can certainly relate - lately, its abysmal in my company.  How, oh how, do these MTs get hired?  To me, that is the BIGGEST mystery.
I'm shocked that they are still in business. Why haven't they been prosecuted and/or shut dow

I received an invitation to a baby shower that shocked me....sm

It was for a friend having her second baby...already strange because I thought baby showers were only for the first baby, when you don't have any of the necessary items. The worst part, though, was that printed on the invitation was the ADMISSION PRICE to the party! It was a tea party at a tea room of some sort. It also was printed on the invitation what gift to bring!

I chose not to go to the party. I politely declined and gave an appropriate gift of my own choosing at a later date.

Why would you take offense? It is the real world and it exists.

It is not meant to be offending to anyone, just an honest statement made by someone.  Everyone grew up differently with different values and "prejudices" handed down to them, or "on them", and we as adults see that and try to correct it.   Prejudice is learned, and I for one am learning how not to be prejudice!
