From what I can tell, it really won't make a difference
This is a unique situation where, because of the water and hence isolation of individuals, they can't even GET supplies to the needy.

FEMA seems to have the tangible resources but no form of transport.

Heck, people are being evacuated people from rooftops at a snail's pace.

Yeah, it would be nice to see some kind of gesture of help from other countries, but right now I think all that is humanly possible is being done. And seems like just a drop in the bucket.
Yes, it DOES make a difference;
tries, rather than a rude, obnoxious native doctor who burps, passes gas, and abruptly hangs up at the end without even an "end of dictation" Didn't these people listen to their mothers when they were told courtesy does count?! Acknowledgement of the human on the other end always appreciated. There, thank you, my rant for the day...feel much better.
Um, what difference does it make how
they are "classified"? Poor dictators come in all colors.

For example, there are plenty of lilly-white dictators who might as well be speaking a foreign language - shall we call them 'honky-speaking' dictators in order to re-classify them, too?

What difference does it make?

I have seen several on this board talking about this endlessly and I wonder why anyone else really cares about what others do in their work. There is always back and forth about what independents should work. Others here say they should not have certain hours to work, that makes them an employee, not an independent. Pray tell, what differences does it make to anyone except to the person working? If you are independent and you work whichever hours you work and another independent and they work certain hours only, why the big fuss? By an independent having their own set hours, does that somehow play into your normal everyday routine? I do not think so. Does your employer now tell you because others have set hours, you will have to do that also- I do not think so. If people are happy with their own job situation, why do others think they have to come here and bash them for their job ethics. I for one am tired of all the nonsense going back and forth. Leave it be. Give it a rest. Do your job and don’t worry about the next person.

Does that make a difference to you? nm

I get some really, really funny ones that make the difference.

This is usually my local stuff though and not my online stuff.

I have one that will say, "Good Morning whoever you are this morning and thank god it's finally Friday, Friday, FRIDAY!!!" When he gets to Vitals he'll say blood pressure like dracula. At the end he'll say, "and we are finally done for the day, thank you for typing this for me."  Every time I get one of his tapes I say, "Oh GOODY!"

I have one  that might have 10 whole patients on a tape who will start off by saying, "Prepare yourself, this was a long day." A tape that "long" usually takes me less than a half hour. Around Christmas the doc had patient named Virginia and said, "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."

My all time favorite is the one that caught me off guard on April Fool's day. He said, "The first patient is Peter Rose. Chief Complaint: "I have a gambling problem." Then he said, "April Fools! Sorry, I just had to do that."

On the flip side I get the Dr. Repeats who will say the same thing 5 times and do 60 lines on a a follow up note.

Seems as if just about everyone says thank you and/or have a nice day. Even the online people. I guess they must know I'm a nice person.

Location does make a difference . . .
I should have mentioned that I am in a large metro area. But I do still think you deserve a raise ;).

Seriously, I just think that is awfully low for ANY area. I don't know how many lines you average per page, though.

Now, I have seen radiology paying in the range of $1-2 per page, but this was still not what the office was paying, but was what the Transcriptionist was being paid by the middle man.

One other thought that may seem to contradict my previous thoughts . . . you do not want to price yourself out of a job or have too much of an increase too quickly, depending, of course, on how important this account is to your livelihood, and any raise at all is better than none.

Good luck!
Does the music make a difference?
Just curious if those of you who have music on see any difference in your production (or anything else) with it on. ? thx. :)
for this, I would use it - for sure, would make a difference to professor. NM
.
It doesn't make any difference...
whether you are an IC or not, the work still needs to be done... and it needs to be done 24/7.  There are plenty of companies who pay a decent shift differential, but that isn't the point either.  You should not always expect to get more in order to do what your job requires.  And you come here and post a rant about how you cannot find a good job... I think it is quite obvious why.  You are not willing to be flexible.
Well then sign the petition and help make a difference!

I had to make the exact same switch. You really won't notice any difference. nm

If you work for a national, what difference does it make where you live?
If you work locally, then yes I think it makes a difference. I work for a national, live in the boondocks and still do well.
how can it possibly make any difference if your check arrives on the 10th or the 15th
sheesh, you all are living literally paycheck-to-paycheck, that's for sure. Should be able to let your paycheck sit for a month without cashing it.
If you make more at home, then no, but if you do not - sm
Then I would think that is pretty good. If I wanted to get a job outside and was offered $15 I'd probably go for it as I make $9-12 at home. Even with gas, day-care, etc. it would probable be worth it for me, but you need to figure out what your out of pockets costs will be, gas, daycare, lunch, clothes, etc.
I make more now at home than
I did 17 years and I say that like it was incarceration because it was.  I learned a lot, yes, of course, I did, but I sure did give more than what they were paying me to do.  The at home 3 days benefited them more than me.  And to thank me, for all of those years of service, they outsourced to CBay and wanted me to set everything up so it would be easier on CBay.  I resigned, and they are still after 2 yeras trying to figure out why CBay is making so many errors in the reports.  I don't really think on-site is the answer.  The hospital I worked for only gave 2 weeks vacation and you earn it as you go.  Be careful thinking you'll get a lot of vacation because that is simply not true.
Currently from home I make
anywhere from $23 to $25 an hour. Unless the hospital has an incentive program along with your hourly rate, I really don't think you will make more. Twenty years ago when I worked in a hospital, they did have a production bonus on top of my hourly rate, but I am still making way more at home then I did inhouse.
I tried to make the switch from clinic to home
and I've got 30 years experience. I guess it all depends on the company you work for at home, i.e., what type accounts and dictators. The company I work for has a good mixture of good and bad, but due to having to look for addresses of referring doctors, account specifics and doctor specifics, it's hard to make any money. Some days, I make much less per hour than I did in the clinic. Of course, this is just my 2 cents. Also, to consider, I don't have any kids at home distracting me either.
...up to you to see if you can make more per line at home versus going
s
I have to disagree. I make more money from home
The issue doesn't have anything to do with inhouse or outsourcing.

Have to agree. Kids do make working at home "different" (sm)

Mine are grown, but the grandchildren occasionally are over.  The oldest one will play his Gameboy or some cube thing all day and only occasionally ask to be fed.  However, when the youngest one can't go do daycare for some reason my world is turned upside down.  The granddaughter has it in her head that when I ask her to be quiet it means come over to my desk and whisper.  All in all, it isn't too often that I have children in my house when I work.  My hat is off to those of you who do it on a regular basis, you are queens of organizational/concentration skills.

I make very good money at home with a small MTSO

Sorry, don't post here often and not familiar. I was saying I make great money and stay at home w
Where do folks get these odd ideas?
If you have gas heat/appliances in your home, PLEASE make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector!
Apparently our stove is not burning the gas properly and it built up inside our house.  We are lucky we only need the stove repaired.
Not true. There are times that renting a home and leasing a car make more sense.
than outright purchase. Do your homework.
RE: I totally agree!! I work at home can came make upwards or $25+ per hour (sm)
Where outside of my home could I make that money, not have to pay gas, buy extra clothes, etc.  I am very happy right where I'm at.
My kids have suffered greatly from me working at home with them home. SM
I have been working at home as an MT since my two kids were born. They are now 4 and 5. In the first few years, I had no help whatsoever. Their father was a bum who didnt work or take care of them while I worked. Your children get neglected while you work basically. And babies and young children desperately need your attention while they are home with you.

My kids have so many behavioral problems right now because of their neglect. I would try to set them up with things to occupy themselves, like coloring or a movie, etc.

I finally put them in day care and things have improved, but there are still a lot of issues because of the damage that was done. They still try to seek attention by doing bad things and they dont listen to me because they are so used to me letting them get away with a lot of stuff because I was too busy typing to discipline them in their early years.

If I could do it all over again, I would definitely have put them into day care from the very beginning.

My advice would be to seek PT care for your baby. Maybe you can do some work around her schedule a little when she is home, like when she takes a nap, and then bang out a bunch of work while she is in day care.

I enjoy being alone at home, but I've got one home sick from school already.

One on one with a kid is nice, too.

This summer has been absolutely crazy.  I haven't had a moment to myself for three months because all of my kids were home traipsing their friends through the house and yard.  My husband switched his work schedule, too, so he's around more than usual.  However, I like not having to do two loads of dishes and four loads of laundry a day.  There are no toys or clutter dragged out everywhere.  I can clean the house first thing in the morning, and it stays clean until everyone gets home at night.

I even got to relax with a cup of coffee and watch TV for half an hour this morning, something I liked for a change instead of cartoons or kids' movies.  I signed up for an online class that I've been wanting to take.  I can exercise without being interrupted.  Yesterday, I went to the mall and spent all my saved up gift cards.  I got some clothes, books, bath stuff, and a new coffee mug.  My work gets done a lot faster, too.  Call me nuts, but I've never had the luxury of being alone in the house for 14 years.  It's kinda nice.  I love my family with all my heart, but I love having a few hours to myself each week, too.

Except now the cat and dogs have been acting weird since the kids went back to school.  They must think that I need someone or something to clean up after and correct behavior on.  They're getting into everything and racing around the house behind me.

my take is that she worked inhouse, not at home, and now wants to find out how to work at home. nm

Forget "per line." Your take-home pay should be taking home SM
roughly what it was before. If it is not, is it because your current pay rate for editing (which in many companies keeps changing as the VR system is developed) is too low or is it because your talents and skills are more for speed typing than speed editing?

If the first, discuss it with higherups, and go get a new job if you don't get the response you need. My last MTSO was secretly refiguring how production was counted to pay us less. I can accept hard reality, it was the secrecy that burned. Sometimes, though, it's just that the learning curves of individual editors and that of the system aren't in sync, and you end up temporarily making less.

If the second, though, recognize it as soon as possible and change to straight transcription work, in your company or a new one, for as long as you can find it.

As for why we aren't paid more for a higher skill, that's just the way the labor supply ball bounces. Best wishes.
I think she means she has wireless TO her home, not IN her home..nm

hospital at-home -vs- national at home

I have an interview today with a hospital...work in-house for 3 months, then go home, paid on production. I don't know as of yet what they pay production, so my question is to anyone who works for a hospital at home AND has also worked for a national at home...

Which would be the best to choose? The hospital offers great benefits, but the national I work for now also has benefits, not as good as the hospital, though.  Any input would be most appreciated!

You spending 3K in gasoline to make 4K plus all that time on the road? That doesn't make sense Pat

You really cannot see the difference?

When people first started coming to America, it was an undeveloped country.  Aside from the Indians, there were no other people living here.  What other language was there aside from what the Indians spoke?  The new Americans and the Indians learned to communicate with each other and both sides learned the other's language.  It only stands to reason, however, that English would be the dominant language, as they became the majority of those living in America.

Also, when our founding fathers came to America, they and the others that then followed made America what it was and is today.  THEY are the ones who made America great by the blood, sweat and tears of their families.  They had every right to come over here as they were the ones doing all the work!!!!!  They did that work to take care of the future generations of Americans.

But now our "powers that be" in the government do not make decisions based on AMERICAN best interests, but for people from other countries.  To be politically correct, we have flooded our country with people that want to prosper from OUR WORK.  They do not come over here and better America in any way.  They better their own little circle of family and actually make life harder for the people who belong here in the first place.

That is the difference between immigrants then and now.  The more we let them in now, the more jobs we lose, the higher our bills become, the more terrorism we face.  When do WE benefit???????  It has nothing to do with prejudice either.  Who cares what they look like, where they are from?  It doesnt matter.  What matters is what they expect, what handouts they want, the bending of the rules for them while we get no break.

If you are Native American, then I would think that  you would be sick and tired of having all you work for taken away from you.  I know that I am.

What is the difference from QA and QC TIA
nm
That's the difference between (sm)
preparedness and no plan at all.  Shame on LA officials for not implementing their own evacuation plan.  Did they really believe a hurricane the size of the Gulf of Mexico wasn't going to be deadly??  If LA officials had followed their own Emergency Operations Plan, most of these senseless deaths could have been avoided.
Same difference, eh?

Don't you think there is a difference between
making a human error and being an inconsiderate pig??? Since they are responsible for these people's records they should go out of their way to be understood. But then again I guess that's our fault too, seeing how the salaries between doctors and transcriptionists (and any other health professional) are so even. Pllllleeeaaassseee. Why don't you send your docs each a Christmas gift for even letting you type their records? They'll stash it right next to all the gifts they get from the medical companies kissing their butts.
no difference
The major concern of IRS is employee versus ic.

EXAMPLE - get 1099 at end of year, you set hours, no benies - IC

EXAMPLE - get W2, punch clock, etc., employee.

As IC, you can deduct all of your business related expenses - i.e., the beauty of small business. Just you, your are a sole proprietor, use Schedule C. Have people under you - several different ways - check out IRS.gov.
There's a difference...

they have a mechanism in place to allow you multiple installs. This only gives you 3.

What is the difference
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between an LX-219 and an LX-219-1.  Also what is the difference between a "Basic digital station with backlight" and a "Enhanced digital station with backlight"? Thanks!
I think the only difference with the new law is SM
now you have to complete a credit counseling class, and instead of filing every 6 years, it is 7 or 8, or something like that.
The difference is...

If you want to make more money, then become the business owner, take the risks and then you'll have the additional income. You'll never get rich working for someone else. Complaining and badmouthing management and other business owners never translates into more $$ in the check--sometimes people complain themselves right out of a job.

I know this board is an "open forum" for all topics. It's just unfortunate that so much of the talk is about how terrible management/business owners are. There are lots of good MTSOs out there!

I have never had a difference between say - sm
an OP note versus a H&P or DS, or ER note. I have seen offered diffrence in pay between clinic versus acute care work; clinic is less since it is easier. I have only ever been paid a flat rate, 2 jobs with incentive pay (.005 to .01 more a line over so many lines a day). I have 2 IC jobs now that is flat rate period, regardless of number of lines or when you work them (had a job years ago that sometimes would pay .01 more a line over the weekend but only when they got out of TAT, but that was they only time they would ever do that). Good luck finding an IC job that pays more for the more difficult reports; most likely few and far between.
Okay. That is probably the difference

We are not an MTSO, we are employees of the facility working out of our homes.  I will keep track of the e-mails though as you have suggested.

I do believe though that it is more or less passing the buck.  That way if it was supposed to be in there and it wasn't the doc has someone else to blame.  Thanks everyone.

I don't know that there is a difference, but...sm
I wanted to keep all my things in one place so if I could send the word autocorrects to ShortHand without having to spend the time retyping them all it would be great.
Okay, but what is the difference?
What can an Expander do for me that I am unable to do with Word? (Other than spell Mickey Mouth...heehee)

thanks for the replies!
The only difference in now and then is
way "back then" they probably had a little more upbringing where they said urinate instead of the word you used. I think they called it class?
I don't think there's a difference between the 2...
I've done both and never noticed a difference, just company calling you a subcontractor instead of IC. Maybe just a preference on their part? There's obviously a difference between these 2 and being an employee.
I don't think there is a difference
