The 2 departments shared applications. The one with a current opening offered you a job. Simple as that.

It's not a slam against you (as OP below states). It's not an ugly or horrifying gesture in the least.

It was simply a job offer, although not the one you were expecting.

Honestly, attitudes like yours and the OPs below are so exhausting. No MT is a prima dona. It is skilled labor - not certified, not registered, not requiring a degree.

One day you might look back and wish you took that job.
