Maybe this is the same Busy MT'ing who will be getting a
Bachelor of Science degree in December and is going to go on to medical school. Obviously, not as happy with job as  would like for us to believe.
    TO BUSY MT'ING
Pay no attention to some of these people... they were abused as children. LOL
    For busy MT'ing
You're quite sanctimonious, but not particularly smart. Since MQ's requirement for FTEs was never for hours, but rather 12,000 lines per pay period, AND the fact that FTMTs only get a per-line rate, what difference does it make whether they get 12,000 lines in 10 hours or 50? Does MQ plan to pay an hourly rate to go along with the line requirement? If not, why is there a new standard? I know you're a bulk producer -- as I have no way to know whether the quality of your work is as good as the amount, and assuming the QA is the same low caliber it has always been, they would never notice your errors anyway -- I'll assume you do nothing but easy accounts all day and never look anything up -- in any event, the new hourly requirement does merit questioning. MQ needs to pay an hourly rate if they are going to start a new hourly standard for FTEs. Period. Nothing unreasonable expecting they should do so. Also, YOU have a choice. You can ignore the posts -- stop reading them! You're righteous lectures are a tad tiresome. As of now, I am done reading anything YOU post.
BUSY MT'ing is a mole, I would bet on it!
She sounds like like one of my supervisors.
Busy MT'ing--please email me if you don't mind...

I've included my email address here so you can reach me.  I wanted to chat with you for a second, if you don't mind....and just so ya know, I couldn't agree more!! You have hit the nail on the head!

Busy MT'ing...you took the words right out of my mouth...sm

Great advice.  Attitude is everything.  It brings to mind a quote I read not too long ago...

"I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails."

Busy MT'ing never answered the question of how many hours she works in a week.
It's not that we don't believe, necessarily.  We'd just like to know HOW.  I'm sure most, if not all, of us think of ourselves as somewhat intelligent, fast typists, educated, experienced, motivated, and capable.  Those are pretty much givens.  However, there's got to be a secret that we don't know.  Is it the work type, platform, keyboard, expander, account type, national or local, big or small MTSO, clinic or acute?  If we have the same tools available to us, why is there such a disparity among earnings?
Allegiant has clinic accounts and is busy, busy, busy
If you're an IC and are looking for plenty of work, freedom to set your own hours, low daily line requirement (500), great supervisors, and easy clinic accounts, then Allegiant may be the right company for you. You can apply by going to www.allegianttranscription.com.

Allegiant's pay scale is 7 cpl also, but would you rather get 7 cpl and easily transcribe 250 lph or get 10 cpl and struggle to do 150 lph. Give me 7 cpl any day and spare me the headache.

I am 30, how old are you because if you are so mature
you wouldn't be going back and forth arguing with somebody about "expired maturity".  Lighten up or perhaps maybe the board needs to make a new forum called "I have no sense of humor no matter what and don't know how to let others have fun without voicing a negative opinion"!!  Talk about growing up, how about lighten up!
That's a very mature way of looking at it, I think.
Forgiving is letting go like you said. People mistake forgiving with condoning. Forgiving is for the person hurt, not the person doing the hurting.

    me
    REAL MATURE
    nm
What? Mine certainly are mature enough to
they want to engage in. There are a lot of things that kids need parents for, but this is just going overboard to say that most 8 and 9 year old children do not have the maturity to make this type of decision.
    You sound so mature.

The mature thing to do would be to discuss your

feelings with your trainer.  If not satisfied, go to the transcription supervisor, and then to the overall manager.

First, sit back and take a deep breath.  Put it all aside for a few hours and watch TV, take a bubble bath, do whatever, but get it off your mind.  Then make up your mind that you can do it, but you first must take time to organize everything in your mind.  If you really believe it is still the company's fault, then it is time for a new job.

Unfortunately, we do not realize all of this until we are a little older and more mature, sm
and by that time, it seems too late, doesn't it.?

I wish I knew this when I was in my 20s.
    You did not fail!
Not every job is right for every person. It is actually a positive thing that you realize that the company is not a good match for you. If I were in that position, I would give a 2-week notice, as it is the professional thing to do. Good luck! Don't beat yourself up. There is something else good out there for you.
Look at the pot calling the kettle black - I am not fighting wth you. I more mature than that. sm
Besides everyone has their own opinions.  Glad I got to see yours.
she was too busy for you the way you are often too busy for her...what's the question? nm
    nm
no, I don't fail to understand....
I said, in the beginning.  I have been an MTSO for many years.  I tell the physicians what I charge.  I have lost only 1 account out of many due to cost.  I realize the horrible effect that outsourcing has had, but there are many, many physicians who still care about the quality of their transcription and are willling to pay for it.
You are setting yourself up to most likely fail...

if you try to start an MT business right out of school.  Unfortunately, people take the college courses for MT just to find out that most employers do require experience.  There are companies that do hire newbies, but one must have attended an "approved" school.  It's not too late for you though.  I see you as having 3 options:

    1. You attend an "approved" MT course/start over with schooling.

    2. You apply everywhere, check your newspaper, keep looking.

    3. You attempt to start up your own business and learn as you go, although I highly don't recommend this route.

    Good luck!

What happens if you fail your QA audit?
Do they fire you or help you or what? I know it is different at every company. Just curious what might happen.
    fried chicken - NEVER FAIL!!
I have been using this for years, beats the heck out of KFC or God forbid, frozen!

McCormick Season 'n Fry Seasoned Coating for Chicken. You'll love it, I promise, and so will your family. Just don't tell them, surprise 'em!
What company test did you fail? - sm
Maybe I can make you feel a little better if I share my experience!

I kind of fail to understand...sm
...why this is upsetting you so much.  She didn't call your husband and flirt with him or ask him out.  She called looking for your husband's friend, and I am assuming from your post that this woman is a friend of your husband's friend.  A lot of males have female friends and vice-versa.  I fail to see how this is your fight.  I would let it go.  It doesn't sound like it's hardly worth getting yourself upset.  Just my 0.02 cents.
    Looking to get into MT'ing
Could you please recommend a reputable company that I can get involved with to begin doing some medical transcribing? I am eager to get started. Thanks.
they are already impossible to reach
18,000 lines and your rate increases by half cent, whoopee.  MQ is a complete joke, a bunch of greedy, phony liars.  This whole business is in the toilet and i'm just sorry I didn't start school for a dif career sooner to be out of it NOW.  I'm gradually having to cut down on spending because my rate of pay is not up with the times, severe hand pain day after day, condescending technicians and supervisors.  I feel trapped.
How do I reach them? What city are they in? Do sm
    you work for them?
I have been unable to get through to anyone. I can't reach
anyone in Oregon either. I expect they probably flew out to Queensland to be with Terri and the kids.  I've tried to send email but it's bouncing, so I checked the zoo website and it's been down more than up. I'm mailing out a letter tomorrow but it will be at least 10 days before she gets it and the staff roll through everything first to look for the nickname so that could be a while, too.
ha ha eat a Whopper and fail a drug screen.

cutsey seeds and lose a job.

The thing with the suntan lotion is wow.  I saw some of that lotion at the suntanning salon I go to.  What I can't figure out is why put hemp in tanning bed lotions anyway?

you fail to understand basic economics

the market will pay whatever the market will bear. You say "if all IC's set their pay scale like they should have in the beginning, the MTSO's would have to pay it in order to get their work done and would have to charge their clients enough to cover the costs." What you don't understand is that MTSO's don't set their pay scale either. The physicians decide what they are willing to pay and if you can't bid into that range, you don't get the work. When India came in to the picture, the entire pay scale dropped. Therefore, MTSO's must charge less if they want the work. Therefore IC's must accept less if THEY want the work... and so on down the food chain.

Many people say they fail the test even though it seems easy. nm
    s
It's hard so that you'll fail the first time and
Tell your employer that the money you give to AAMT/ADHI for the 'privilege' of taking their test is funding the progressive offshoring of the American MT profession. If you've been an MT for nearly 30 years, you don't need a CMT after your name. You were a professional MT long before that bunch of con artists dreamed up that scheme to make themselves rich by making MTs think they were on their side. Now we all know better. Don't fund their offshoring scam!
    MT'ing in a nutshell

    1.  You must be able to be alone alot, or else you will get very lonely.  I myself love it most of the time, but there will be a few days where I long for co-workers, happy hours, and gal pal'ing with colleagues, but then i'll quickly sober up and remember the backstabbing, office politics, all women in the office pms'ing simultaneously...I would rather be alone than deal with that even one day out of the month.

    2.  You have to be disciplined.  I am, but not to a fault.  There are still at least one or two days out of the pay period where I immediately "start work" by daydreaming, surfing the internet, checking email, chatting, float from room to room aimlessly.  You have to be on time, every day, ready to work, or else you won't make any money.

    3.  Get ready to justify being an MT to just about EVERYONE in your life.  Many people do not think of this as a "real" job, which I cannot for the life of me get over.  Its not respected, even though i'm very proud of my profession, and able to support myself soley on it, have a few hobbies and manage to go to school, and plan on buying a house.

    4.  This is THE most important...KNOW YOUR STUFF!  Research, never guess, if you cannot understand a word.  You will learn so much and will become that much better in the long run.

I dont know if the girls can add anything else, but those of the double edge swords we deal with.  Good luck

MT'ing isn't all about speed, although...

of course it helps to type fairly fast.  However, there is sooooo much more to it than just typing speed.

That being said, my own speed without using any text expansions isn't nearly as great as some mention here.  I tested using expansions recently and hit well over 200 wpm.  Thankfully, I am able to use a text Expander while working . . . otherwise I might starve to death.

In all my years (20+) of MT'ing
I have never had a job that followed BOS. I have a copy of BOS 2, and I think I have opened it once or twice just to peruse it on my own but not for the account on which I work.

That being said, it would be much simpler for we MTs if every facility followed it. I've had some truly bizarre account specifics where following the BOS guidelines would have been much simpler, lol!
Really more stressful than MT'ing? nm

If that were me, I wouldn't be able to reach the desk soon! nm
    x
2000, and I usually reach or exeed that. sm
Big money, with bonuses, of course.
Yeah, I'll bet some MTs with bad QAs reach the
which unfortunately includes an answer to the blanks. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if sometimes they don't purposely send back the same thing, just to annoy a QA who picks on them too much.
I think the same conversation is going on at
company board, not too far from type. Look for the blonde comments, sadly. I still have no clue which one is better, but I think some posters get into more detail. I personally would always go with spaces, 65 character line including spaces, but that's just me!
This whole conversation seems to have gone off in - sm
the direction of whether or not QA is "needed" or not, or whether or not they are up to doing their jobs correctly.

I'm not saying either of those things, but what I DID say was that all too often, both inhouse and at home, I've been having to deal with QA-ers who make changes where they should NOT be making them. I even had one take out an entire sentence that was CORRECT, and VERBATIM, and insert something that the doctor never even said, and which didn't belong with that patient's diagnosis.

    That is SO unethical!
    MT'ing since 1998. Just turned 30

QA should be used to teach and aid in the process of MT'ing sm
Not to pick apart and make the MT feel inadequate. Does it really matter if there is a comma missing....not really. The report still reads the same and is a technical document.

QA should be friendly and helpful, at least that is how I try to be in my QA position. We are in this together not against each other. We have the same purpose....to make sure that patient has the most accurate record possible. We all should work as a team, in my most humble opinion.

    Happy Holidays Everyone!
If you didn't follow the current BOS style "rules" etc. that's where you might have fail
    s
The point obviously was that one sure way NOT to reach a supervisor is posting
on this message board anonymously. Give me a break!
It's not hard to reach $4000 a month as
Someone with their own accounts can pull in more money than an MT working for a company or another service. In California, I know of an MTSO who charges 16 cpl and the clients pay that willingly. Where I live, I couldn't get away with charging that much. They just won't pay it here. However, I do have my own service and I bring in $3000-$3500 on average. Some months it's less, some a little more depending on the workload.

Also, when you have your own accounts, you become quite familiar with the doc's dictating styles, can build up a huge library of Expander entries, and create normals or templates for the physicians, which boosts your production rate quite a bit.

I know I make more money with my own accounts than I would working for someone else but trust me, there are plenty of headaches that go along with having your own service, too, so it can be a trade-off at times. There are lots of times I think I'd gladly take a lower line rate to get rid of the headaches!! The only thing that stops me is the flexibility since I can work any hours throughout my day as long as I meet the agreed TAT. Since I have two kids, that's pretty valuable to me!
same here but hubby got me a stool to reach the top, hehe..nm

I just had a nasty conversation with a
telephone rep from India who informed me that all Americans were uneducated, stupid, and "farmers" and that India was getting all the jobs because they were all educated. She shut her fat mouth when I asked if that is why India still practices putting female infants on the hillsides to be eaten by wolves, why so many of their people are starving to death, and why disease is so rampant. They are getting to be the most arrogant bunch of people I have ever seen.
I have to say I am unsettled by this conversation. sm
I wouldn't dream of drinking while I am working.  I don't believe that is a "perk" of being at home and like several have said, I don't care who you are, alcohol impairs you.  I can't imagine saying anyone saying this is okay.  And, much as Endiqua said, using the everyone does it scenario is not only wrong, it's immature.  I hope we are more professional than that!
