Questions like the one quoted SHOULD make people angry.
There's a difference between needing help with something difficult, and asking a question that NOBODY who is working as an MT should have to ask. If you can't figure that word out or find the answer yourself, you shouldn't be working as an MT. Period.
I can make these lines and my QA is very high
otherwise I would not have a job but and underline that, it also depends on your platform. I in the past always got over 2000 lines straight typing at 2 different hospitals. When outsourced took another job and my count was about 1200-1300 per day. I had NEVER done so little, never. I got back with my old job where I do both VR and straight and I do high but the QA has to be high is expected to be 98 and if below, there is a problem.
Oops! Make that . . . high
Sorry I am upset today.  Too much stress and no funds.
Do you have an unusually high line rate to make up for that?
.
$13/hr is ridiculously low. I suspect SM
it's some program where they get you cheaply, sharpen your skills by giving feedback on your work (mentoring) and then turn you loose.  Industry standard is around 150 lines per hour.  If you did that, that's a little over 8.5 cpl.  BUT if you type 175 lines an hour for $13/hr, you are typing for a little under 7.5 cpl.  As you get better and more used to the dictators under this "training program," you will actually be working for less money, see?
This whole outsourcing situation is going from bad to ridiculously bad.
Today I had to call HP service and, naturally, I got a dude in India whose name was John!  The first time I called his name was Ian.  I wanted to say, "Look pal, drop the John/Ian thing, I know your name is probably Rhajib."  Needless to say, I could barely understand him, and it got me to thinking about how in the world people who can barely speak English can be taking away our jobs, and not just transcription.  It just does not make sense to me.  That is like saying the bird is just as good at catching mice as the cats are.
What a ridiculously negative comment.

I worked for one that quoted

9 cents per line.  When it came payday, they said it was actually 8 cents per line and 9 cents was the weekend rate.  I should have quit on the spot, but needed the money at the time.  Good luck.

You should be paid on the day they quoted you
when you signed your contract.  If they are late, then I would stop typing and let them know they will get absolutely no more work out of me until I receive my paycheck.  And I would immediately start looking for another job and if and when the time comes for you to give your notice and move on, I would be brutally honest and tell them how completely unprofessional they were.  I would also post the company name here because word of mouth especially in the MT industry can have devastating effects on a company.  Of all the crap these MTSOs try to pull, not paying on time is the least forgivable and the one most MTs will consider before accepting a job.
Yeah, you make a lot of sense! Stupid.
Yeah, we are immature. I find it funny that you think people who enjoy their jobs are immature and have multiple personality disorders. So wake up ugly and go find a shrink.
Yeah! With the big bucks I make now that AAMT has championed our cause!
What a joke!!  I saw an ad for an MT for $10 an hour.  Worse than when I started 35 years ago.  Thanks for nothing AAMT!  Have fun at your convention...don't let all of us disillusioned MTs who thought you were actually going to help promote our profession and give us some credibility and professionalism spoil your good time.  After all, that's about all you do these days is plan one convention to the next.  This organization is a joke and all MTs know it.  The only reason most belong is to be credentialed...until they realize they don't have to send you anymore hard earned money.  Bitter?  Yes I am...you have sold us out!  Shame on you.
Be surprised then b/c the TC quoted $15/pedal + $50 computer. Also had to have programs

Also as SE we should be compensated at contractor rate, not as if we are one whiff above

employee since we must make up work and eat the down time etc.

Also, when the work is low the work is GIVEN to employees with no warning and NO WAY to make up the work because there is no work there.

I pay yearly.
I always pay yearly. I have worked as an IC for 10 years. I have never had a penalty. A family member also has worked from home for over 20 years and has never paid quarterly. Just pay on April 15th and you should be fine.

They don't do yearly updates and never have. If you must
get hysterical about something at least get the real information about what you are carrying on about. Statements like this just make folks dismiss what you are saying because you don't know what you are talking about.
I do taxes yearly, too.

Yearly income

I have three 1099's here in front of me  -- one for 24K, one for 13K,  and one for 5K.    My W2 one is for 14 almost 15K.  I did work without 1099 in the amount of 3K.   The reason that my average goes down on the IRS forms is that after all my business deductions -- which includes my health insurance and 401K and Self employed retirement fund, mileage, supplies, etc. it goes down to less than 20K.   Believe me or not, but it is possible and I still have time to go on the boards.  I do not work 60 to 70 hours per week.

yearly wages

Last year had small MTSO two part-time IC's working for me, worked as employee parttime in clinic.  Worked 50 hours per week.  Made -- myself not counting what my IC's brought in -- $62 K.  Starting June 1st, quit the employee position -- divorce attorney fees paid off, no IC's and keeping my 4 accounts,  will work 25 to 28 hours per week and make approximately 40K from these four accounts per year.  If I get stuck and need more will do overflow for another MTSO.   But too many headaches and time to take some time for myself.  Looking forward to it.

I pay yearly also....per my tax accountant. sm
It doesn't matter as long as you pay - quarterly, yearly, etc.

Yearly raise? What's that?
I've been waiting for 3 years for a raise I was supposed to get after 6 months.
Will it be a yearly thing now?
xx
Waiting for what? They don't do yearly updates.
What else is there to say? But if you want to keep on whining about something that is untrue be my guest.
yearly physical (joke)
I went to the doctor for my yearly  physical. The nurse starts with certain basics.

How much do  you weigh?" she asks.
"115," I say. The nurse puts me on the scale. It  turns out my weight is 140.

The nurse asks, "Your height?" "5 foot  8," I say.
The nurse checks and sees that I only measure 5' 5".

She then takes my blood pressure and tells me it is very high.

"Of course it's high!" I scream, "When I came in here I was tall and slender! Now I'm short and fat!"

She put me on  Prozac

Paying quarterly vs yearly

When I read the post regarding going from quarterly to yearly for IC taxes I got excited.  I used to pay yearly until my tax guy told me to pay quarterly which I reluctantly started doing.  All those years I paid yearly the IRS continued to send me quarterly tax payment vouchers which I ignored.  Ok, so my point is, I just got off the phone with the IRS, explained my situation, IC who works production, doesn't make the same month to month, year to year and she STILL says I HAVE to pay quarterly and at the end of the year send in form 2210 which I think she said is an annualization form which will enable you to escape any penalties for sending in less if you made more last year.  I do know if you have children there are circumstances that will enable you to file yearly rather than quarterly but I have no children at home so I didn't really pay attention to that.

Stedman's with the yearly updates. nm
s
no, annual pay used to be $500/yearly 4 india
x
The Stedman's and then you buy the yearly updates afterward. nm

What happened to their advertised yearly raises? sm
Oh, I remember who the owner is and am not surprised.
how do you get away with paying yearly? the IRS determines if you should pay quarterly so
unless you are having a great deal withheld from hubby's check and only paying a little bit from yours, I do not see how you can be complying with the law by paying yearly. The IRS doesn't like that. They want their money NOW!
I work for a national, $600 yearly deductible and 15-30 copay
nm
Yearly income to expect as full-time... (sm)

employee (not IC) for a national?

don't count on raising rates yearly as an MTSO.

As an MTSO, don't think you are going to increase your accounts *yearly* (the word you used).....good luck if you're taking that route!!

I have my surgeons for a decade due to they pay very well and I have NEVER raised their rates because then they COULD choose to go elsewhere for less.....just my take.....

I also worked for nat'l services for years and they rarely raised their rates to their clients, as they, too, never wanted to lose any accts.

Good luck to you, whichever way you go!!

Need advice on yearly line count raises please. sm
Could anyone please give advice on how much a yearly raise for a line count should be?  What is good, what is bad, what is average?  Thank you in advance.
Yikes...2-3 reports pulled per pay period here, not yearly..
sorry to see quality isn't a big issue at your company.
In my area, the doctors do these tests automatically as part of your yearly exam -

And on my local ER account, if you're a female and show up at the Emergency Room, they will automatically do a pregnancy test on you, even if you've had a hysterectomy.  I think it's a huge scam.  The kinds of tests that are becoming "routine" is getting just plain silly.

Since yours is so old, you'll need the regular full-price version and then yearly you order the

Yeah, yeah, that should be "your work..."

We met in high school. My high school sweetheart
introduced us in a discussion over Ford versus Chevy versus Dodge. I used to race my Dodge Coronet with oldstyle 318 V-8 engine against the guys on the back roads and old highways. High school boyfriend had a Chevy truck. DH had a Ford Fairlane and later an AMC Javelin that just made me swoon. We didn't actually start dating until three years later, and my old high school boyfriend was a bit surprised at that since he introduced us.
Yeah, baby, yeah.
We are here for the long haul.
You spending 3K in gasoline to make 4K plus all that time on the road? That doesn't make sense Pat

How nice that the world revolves around what you make and no one else could possibly make more. sm

Marla in So. California pays 11 cpl for a 55 ccl, Oracle pays 9-1/2 cpl, MDI-MD 11 cpl, JLG 10 cpl for gross line, etc.

Of course, these are rates negotiated and paid to qualified MTs.

When I see mistakes I repeatedly make, I make a quickcorrect for it (sm)
for example if I type we plant o instead of "plan to" I have a quick corrct so that if I type plant o, it replaces it with plan to, etc. It is hard - I was with the same company for 8 years. I do not work for anyone with an accuracy requirement though.
When you make the copay, make them give you a sm
receipt for the amount you pay them.  I know they don't like to do this because it takes time, but if you are really stern and insist on a receipt they have to give you one.  Then, the next time you get billed for something you already paid, tell them to look for their copy of the receipt and let THEM do the work.
Yes, unfortunately you do have to make a pest of yourself to make it work, but.....
as the years went by that is why I stayed away from those type of companies.  BTW, Noni is a fabulous product, I absolutely do not care for the "marketing techniques" they use.  One of the facts of this type of industry is you cannot just recruit to make it, you have to retail.  Ever since I "overhauled" my techniques and system...I never had to ask another person to some on board again.  Well, nuf for now.  Take care and have a blessed week!!
lol cut myself off. Anyway, I'll make close to what I used to make with MQ,

How about a High Five??!!
nm
high 5!!
...Right on! I think many people who are gay bashers are really terrified of the unknown, terrified because they link gay people with sexual criminal behavior - pedophiles, rapists, you name it. I would not expect less of a gay person than I would a straight person when it comes to character and ethics. It is sad to see how many people are terrified of gays because they believe they have an "agenda" - out to turn the world gay!! haha!

It should be pointed out here that many gays have desires and needs just like us straight people - want to be loved, want to belong to someone, want to be committed to one person, want a home and family just like us. That should tell us something, right? Hey, for that matter, there are lot of straight people who will never want to settle down, love sleeping around, live a promiscious lifestyle, but it is only when that occurs in a gay person that it is magnified.

People can be so naive. Throughout time there have been gays in every walk of life - high ranking powerful politicians, ministers, high ranking military men, etc. Some just choose to keep it a secret. Just as I expect my straight friends to have character and ethics, so do my gay friends.

Judge people on their character, their morals, their ethics, not whether they are gay or straight.

high 5!!

P.S. - coincidentally just before I came to the board I just popped in a CD of the 5th Dimensions - remember "Age of Aquarius? That's too funny!

Very high indeed!
I've never heard of anyone making more than .02-.03/cpl off of their subs. I'd say for you to either make some rules (times they can call, etc) and define exactly what you are willing to do for them. If they say no and you really don't care for the account any longer, then just let it go. If you really do want to keep it, the only thing I can suggest is to concentrate on how much YOU are making (and if it's worth it) instead of concentrating on how much THEY are making.
50% to me is very high
I could not look in the mirror if I took 50%, even beauticians when they used to work in a shot got 70/30 and they used the equipment of the shop.   If she handles everything but the invoicing I feel you are taking advantage of someone and hopefully you can live with yourself and look in the mirror.   I usually do 80/20 but then I pick up the tapes and deliver them to the IC, proof the work and invoice out, do all contact with the account.  But to each their own.
