Troubles with Teething - Baby, Baby, Baby
Hi. My little guy is teething soooooo bad and I am wondering if any of you have some ideas that I can try, to hopefully make his life (and my life) a little easier to deal with? lol. We've tried Tylenol - with little pain relief, but much diarreha! We've tried Orajel - it seems to wear off too fast to make a difference. We've tried teething toys - help for only a few minutes (not nearly enough time for me to get any work done!). His appetite is normal, but his sleep schedule has been totally disrupted (as has mine). For the last 2 nights, he has woke up every couple hours. I would think he would be exhausted during the day....but he never goes to sleep. He is more fussy than usual and alittle more clingy, but overall he is very playful. His pediatrician gave me some suggestions (the above) that I have tried with little to no help, so I am desperate for new ideas! He is cutting multiple teeth right now (and just got a few new ones last week too) so he is in a lot of pain. Poor little guy. I appreciate all ideas that anyone has. Thanks in advance.  :)

combo MT/MC classes

I am thinking of taking a Medical Transcription class.  My sister who is a Physician's Assistant tells me I should do coding instead.  Does anyone know anything about the combo classes and whether they are a good idea and if they prepare you enough?

Thanks

You can assign any key combo you want to the
NextField command in the customize keyboard dialog box. You don't need a macro if you are inserting blank fields with Ctrl+F9. You can also assign a shortcut to the previous field command.
zero ego, high IQ. awkward combo.

yes it is but i have tried EVERYTHING to no avail. only this combo works for me. nm

When I used this combo, we had this problem. IT had to replace Citrix with something else.
They had to do a lot of tweaking, and they were somewhat resistant. They had trouble understanding that letters need to appear immediately ... or sooner.

You can get a combo wireless AND plug in router sm
Linksys makes one and even Walmart has them. I would not go wireless for MT because it is too slow. If you have, say, a wireless laptop that you want to sit on the couch and play with or take to the bedroom or whatever, having a dual router is convenient. You still want to MT on a plug in Ethernet cord.

They are very easy to set up. Linksys has instructions and I have never had a problem. You don't really need to tell you cable company, they aren't going to know or care. Your modem has a set speed and having a router will not increase that speed. Routers make a kind of virtual partition of cable signals. If you have a 112 modem like we can get where I live, you'll find yourself very slowed down. I go up 2 notches and have a 512 speed cable modem and when my kids are here and they all plug into the router to play games over the internet, I can still MT because the signal is pretty fast (well okay until they piggyback another router and hook up 8 computers for a LAN party).
In MT ads on the net, more and more I see ads for combo positions - MT/front desk, MT/secretary, etc

We are not threatening a suit,
These people stole our lines, we earned way less than the federal minimum wage, and we want our money. I could have earned more money at McDonald's!!! Just FYI, not meant to be rude to you.
No suit here, sad sack...
Hey, ME (how original...)- if it's been awhile since you've been there, who could you know anything? I like where I work, and many of my friends do as well. We could all stand to make more money, but I know for a fact I'm making more bank than 90% of you out there, just based on my speed and accuracy and the amount of lines I average. I used to work a FT job AND a PT job and didn't make combined what I make here! You just have to know your stuff, be disciplined at home and good at what you do. Sounds like you were lacking all the way around. Let me guess- you are now an IC, riight? Why- no one would have you? Oh, you like your FREEDOM, riiight...while you are enjoying your freedom, which is just saying you don't have enough work to keep you off the boards all day, I'm putting out about 2K lines a day at a top line rate too. The few times I call in they've been nice (never met any of them though), and they are always sending me thank you notes and stuff. You enjoy your "time off"- I got vacations to pay for! If you want to come back, email me. I'll get a referral bonus!
Sorry we cant be Ayran and hairless enough to suit you.

It is not a class action suit as of yet
It is not certified class action because MQ filed for the proceedings to be held in NJ with all the other law suits. Therefore, this is stalling the certification of the suit to class action. They have received numerous calls over the checks.

Of course they cannot offer legal advise as they are not representing all MQ MTs as of yet, it is still the original 3 that filed, but I don't think it would be wise to cash it. That is just me. I know there are those that will disagree and call me names, but thats my two cents.
You can customize IT to suit your typing needs

You can customize IT to better suit your needs.

For marker selection, you can select what marker keys you would like to use from a list of options in Instant Text. Right-click on the phrases advisory and go to Options and Marker Selection. There, you can select what word marker and phrase markers you would like to use.

You can also adjust the visual feedback. If you find the advisory lines difficult, you may want to start off with using just a few advisory lines. To change the advisory lines temporarily, right-click on the words advisory and select the number of lines you wish to have. To set up the number of advisory lines to a permanent number, you can do so in the Linking Options.

You can also work with zero visual feedback if you like. Simply hit "Alt-"  (that’s ALT and the "-" hyphen key) to hide IT's visual feedback.

You may want to try to do straight typing for X amount of hours per day and just use IT for an hour or two and slowly build-up your time each day.

You can always email the Instant Text tech support if you need any help.

For that amt of $, I'd be filing suit. I can't believe you're going to

I was involved in a class action suit

If you want to sue, you MUST have damages to sue for. GO to the DOCTOR or a suit is worthless.

I've seen enough Judge Judy (I love her, too!) to know this. If you have no damages, you get no money. With no PROOF of damages, you basically have no damages.

You would need to take pictures of any scrapes and bruises that you have as a result of being dragged, falling, the leash pulling you, etc. You also need a doctor's report.  A judge won't just take your word that you were hurt. Good luck!

Professionalism is an attitude, not a particular vocation.

The collective bantering on this board is the kind of thing that, to me, denigrates MT just as much as low wages and newbies coming in undercutting the rest of us.

I don't see very many MTs with a good attitude. I am no different, and, therefore, I'm getting out. Big old red flag when I can't even talk nicely to others in my profession. Plain and simple. Do I have a ton of resources? NO. Do I make a ton of money that I can pull this off? NO. I am trying to be smart and patient about it.

What I read on this board truly depresses me. I see a bunch of negative, defensive, downtrodden, burned out people.

I know PLENTY of professionals in PLENTY of other fields who have made the decision to work at home, or work part time, because their family is EQUAL priority to their careers. They do not appear to have a priority problem to me, nor do I think they care any less about what they do. They have made tough decisions, made some challenging sacrifices, and have a LOT of discipline.

Okay, I hate to be the one to scream law suit, but this reeks of discrimination.

I would seriously check out the descirmination laws in your state because that is exactly what this is....  Oh as a Large and Lovely girl myself, I am furious along with you.  Okay not that I would ever want to work for a company who had the moral ethics of a flea, but they need to learn that they cannot treat people like this.   Man the nerve..

could it have to do with the class action law suit, my credit card company did that once...
they sent me a check of some money they supposedly owed me because someone filed a class action suit regarding their not posting monies received the same day and therefore charging people late fees, etc.  I got like $3.46 for something or other.

perhaps it was a class action suit that was filed, and then of course MQ would have to go back and pay any monies due to everyone regarding the line-count discrepency issue.

maybe I am way-off, but if it is on the QT, that could be why.  once they pay you off, they are no longer liable, right?.

anyone else have any ideas?
Pool
We have an above ground pool, but my friends across the street have an in-ground. We live in NY and they paid about $20,000 for their pool. It's fiberglass with cement around it and fenced in (of course). It's a great time to have a pool here with the hot weather we've been having. Have fun.
Talk about blowing smoke! No one, not one MQ MT has "joined" the class action suit.
Its not even up to that point yet.  We will be notified and given the legal options via the legal system. So, if you claim you "joined it", you joined nothing - just gave your name to the laywers. Nothing more, so get over yourself.  If there is nothing more to pursue after discovery, you won't be joining anything!
Work in a hospital and no one cares about quality, unless there is a malpractice law suit involved.

All anyone worries about is quantity.  The work is terrible and the only time anyone even acknowledges it is when a doctor is being sued.   When my son was operated on I had to marked his leg in permanent marker before surgery because left/right get mixed up so much.  You can tell reports that comes from India and my supervisor sits there and laughs with us.  Due to the "freeze" we haven't had raises in over 5 years.

We must work for the same pool! :) sm

I have a dictator that sounds like an older gentleman from the south and he will always say, "I thank you very much for typing this for me. Have a nice day."

I always say, out loud, "You too sir" because it's so totally unexpected to hear it.

I even have a guy that talks 1000 mph and ends his dictation in a robotic voice in one sentence with no spaces and his last name, like this:

thisisendofdictationthankyoufortypingthisSmith.

working in a pool
Hello, I have been doing medical transcription for 11 years, most of them as an IC. 2 years ago I changed companies from which I get my work and, for the first time, I am in a pool situation. Here's my question. Is it standard procedure (or normal) when you are working in a pool to not be able to pass on doctors that you cannot do well or just find too frustrating to do? In all the years I have been doing transcription, this is the first time I have not been able to say I can't or do not want to do that doctor. I am expected to do whatever comes up in my pool, regardless of whether or not I do them well, and at the same time keep my accuracy up at 97%, and not send all of the jobs to QA. It is a very frustrating situation and honestly, for the first time in 11 years, has me thinking about quitting altogether. MrsBTFuller

I have only worked in 1 pool myself but - sm
when I first started you could send back work. I had 1 doctor I absolutely hated and could not do, so I'd send him back. Then they "updated" at some point and you could not send work back. I ended up having that doctor removed from my pool (I ask mgmt) since he killed my QA. We were only allowed to send in 5% of our work every month (not a day, a month) to QA. So out of the 300+ reports I would do a month I could only send 15 to QA, the other 285 had to have no blanks, or only 1 blank ....we were allowed to send it through with 1 blank. Needless to say this was a difficult thing to do with 80% ESL. I'm sure it can be done if you take 30+ minutes or more for each report to make sure it is perfect, but most of us do not have that luxury....we need to eat, pay rent, mortgage, etc. All I can say is good luck.
working in a pool

Not that it helps any, but I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.  I would love to just have them remove my "bad doctor", but when I bring it up I'm just told that I will get better at him, or they will remove me from that pool.  The only thing that is stopping me from just quitting is that I just hate changing companies and all that entails.  Not sure what I will do.  I really should have asked this question before I started working in this situation.

We have had our pool for 2 summers. sm
The first pool we got from Academy Sports and it was totally awful.  The side walls were not thick enough.  It kept busting at the seams.  It did not last 10 days.  So, needless to say, we took it back.  We then got the 18 x 4 at Walmart and it has been great with no problem whatsoever.  Do not use more than 1 waterhose to fill it up though.  If you do that, it will not stand up right.  As much as I want a regular hard side pool, this will definitely suffice for a few more years.  Happy Swimming!
Inground pool
I don't know if this will help you or not but we live in CA and paid about $35,000 for our pool, although we got great discounts because we did it at the same time as our neighbor, who is in the pool supply business and lined up all the subcontractors. So it's probably more like a $50,000 pool. We love it! It almost always takes longer than the estimated time, so if you do have it done this summer you may not be swimming until next summer. Best of luck to you!
It goes back to the pool nm

I do pool work
I have to get a minimum of 1200 lines in an 8-hour shift, which is more than enough time to hit the minimum. I do acute care and do have a backup account, which I work on infrequently since my primary rarely runs low. I take a 10-minute break every 2 hours just to get up and move around a bit. I hope that answers your question.
I think by pant suit we all meant slacks, blouse, and a matching jacket, not the actual (sm)
one-piece pantsuit (read:  Brady Bunch!) from the 70s.  Thanks for all your replies.  Very helpful.
Yes, the gene pool stops there.

I'd be in my pool for the 2nd time this year.
