While you may be Mother Teresa with tattos and piercings, like it or not, right or wrong, society DOES judge based on appearance. If I'm hiring a receptionist at a doctor's office and I have 3 candidates, I don't care how nice you are, if you look like a goth with tats and piercings and black clothes, you're likely to be passed over. It's just the way it goes and nothing will ever change that. Do you agree?
