I have the same one-sidedness in my blood family as well. I do all of the giving. They do all of the taking. I make all of the phone calls -- long distance and for many years now, buy all of the gifts on holidays, try to keep in touch by visiting often, but recently I have pulled away to see if they would notice and they haven't. I think it is personality type like you said but I also feel some of us value family and work harder at making family memories more than others -- to a fault sometimes. AND they (the nonchalant family members) know it. Why work hard at it if we do our share and theirs too?
