You use the ShortHand File Converter Utility which is located under the Files Menu. Then go to "Run File Converter" and select the file for your normals (I think it's usually normal.dot for Word, but I haven't used it in forever so I'm not exactly sure.). I had no problem converting my large files when I initially got SH. Hope this helps!
