Upper case is lower, lower case is upper. Using InstaText. Anyone know how to fix this?

Aargh.  It happened all day yesterday.  When I brought in text that was all caps

IMPRESSION:

and had lower case on keyboard (as always do), it reverses keyboard commands.  This is driving me c-r-a-z-y.

wow, you'd think your arms would
Has anyone tried this?
Are you able to rest your arms?
Maybe arm rests? They helped me for a while until I started getting carpal tunnel symptoms from not having my hands properly positioned (due to resting my elbows on my arm rests). Needless to say, got rid of the arm rests and after a while, the pain just went away (both in wrists/hands and shoulders/back). However, I do have quite severe knots if you ever feel my shoulders :)
How many of you transcribe with your arms on armrests? nm

Need some help. Weird stuff on my son's arms. sm

I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before.  It's just too weird and I have worked for doctors (mostly general practice) for 20 years.

My son is 20 and he has these really weird looking discolorations on his left arm. They are flat, pink, scattered and in many different dimensions from the size of a pencil eraser to an actual small squares. They are not raised, don't itch or hurt, but they've just been appearing slowly and are now covering more areas of the arm.

He works in a kitchen at a nursing home, but the spots appeared before he got this job. The nursing home said he needs to have this checked out before he comes back to work on Tuesday (he has tomorrow off).

Rundown on his health history is that he is asthmatic (not enough to be on meds)and coughs a lot. Unfortunately, he is a very heavy smoker and I've been trying to get him to stop. He has cut down, because he's living at our house now and smoking is outside. He doesn't cough as much, but still coughs a lot.

He is 6 foot 4 inches and weighs 135 lbs. He eats constantly and never gains weight, but he's been like this since he was in grade school. He has a confirmed diagnosis of thalassemia and also has symptoms of what may be Marfan's Syndrome.

One last thing is that he had months of unprotected sex with a girl he was in love with until he found out that he wasn't the only one she was sleeping with, so he left her and moved back home for the time being.

Any ideas would be helpful.

weird stuff on son's arms
I think you need to go to the doctor with your son in the morning -- mostly because you will understand more about what the doctor is saying (because you've been typing this stuff for so long), you'll be able to ask the right questions and be sure it's not passed off as dermatitis which it most certainly is not.
Good luck - let us know.
pityriasis rosea would not be on arms
It only goes all over your trunk. I had it on front and back.

Visualize each hug...parentheses are arms:-)

Where in upper MI if you don't mind
me asking.  I'm in upper MI and everyone around here and surrounding areas balks at anything over 8 cpl.  I've never heard of anyone in our state paying anywhere near that high, so I'm really curious.  Thanks!
I'm rooting for 1 top for 2 arms, singular/pleural.

Doctors are always making words up...sigh.
I've always been partial to a chair with arms
and I'm not sure why.  I don't know where people put their arms with no arm rests.  Would that cause shoulder tiredness?  I don't have an idea for a new one, but I sure need one!
Joint Pain in Arms/Hands/Shoulders
I am just going to relate this story for what it is worth to someone else.

In 2001 I began having problems with my left hand, arm and shoulder. Orthopedist thought it may be the beginnings of carpal tunnel but EMG was neg. It was bad enuf that at times I couldn't pick stuff up and it hurt to type. It waned and waxed. A few years later I began having problems with my hands and the joints in my fingers hurting, along with left shoulder pain. My hands were so bad I could not open a jar at times. Eventually I went to a rheumatologist who told me that I had no visible signs of severe arthritis. All MDs, incl. orthopedist and rheumatologist recommended trying Celebrex, aspirin, etc. The regular stuff. I was resigned to early arthritis like my mother.

Well, one day in late 2004/early 2005 I decide to see a chiropractor for my shoulder because I'd had electro therapy for an injury years ago and thought maybe this would help. I had some adjustments and electro therapy on my shoulder.

I want to tell you -- ALL and EVERY pain in my fingers left and never came back. ALL and EVERY pain running from shoulder to hand stopped. It had to have been some sort of pinched nerve.

Not a single MD had even suggested seeing a chiropractor. And had it not been for my shoulder and my past experience, I never would have thought of it and would still be suffering, possibly with even further damage to the nerve by now.
The few I've done use the robot arms as extra hands &

As I was programming it, I could a glimpse of myself and nearly fell off the chair!   I loook old and tired (47).

Have been so busy and so stressed for the last six months, I haven't really taken care of myself.  I just joined gym, quit smoking, am cleaning up my act.

But, nothing is going to take the bags away from my eyes.  Am thinking of plastic surgery.  If anyone has had this done, can you tell me whether it was worth the money to you?

As you know, I am far from rich but have few bills other than the general overhead (no credit cards).

thanks!  I work very hard and it would be a gift to myself.

Upper back pain

In the past I have had the same problem, but I found that when I lowered my chair it was greatly improved.  It seems I can type faster with my chair higher, but when I lower my chair I have much less pain.  It is something to do with the angle in which my arms are..  When they are pretty much level with the keyboard that is a great improvement in the pain, although I have to sacrifice a little bit of speed it is well worth it.  I also use a split keyboard which also seems to make an improvement in my pain.  I have been at this work for 30 years and believe me I have had pain in all parts of my body related to sitting in this chair in the same position for many hours at a time.  I wish you well.

neck and upper back sm
Swimming helps some. Massage definitely helps. I have asked the massage therapist just to focus on my neck and upper back and to work deeply. Rates for massage depend on where you live. I pay about $60 for an hour. Sometimes you can get a half hour. Definitely ask for what you want with massage, and give feedback about what feels helpful. A chiropractor has helped and a strong vibrator has helped. Good luck! I know the pain.
I like a chair with arms, deep seat and high back (sm)
so I bought a leather chair from Costco about a year ago and have never regretted it.  Think it is made by Lane.  It was a little expensive but since I'm in it for hours a day - sometimes 12 - I figure it was an important investment... plus it is so good looking we often wheel into other parts of house when we need extra seating :)
Have ya'll ever had it really help your belly, esp your upper abdomen?nm

No surprise companies have the upper hand....sm
With a law that says an employer can "fire at will"...I have a hard time thinking the unfairness is NOT supposed to be that way. I could bore you with my past experience but I won't..lets just say after 28 years working in one hospital,an employee file with every yearly evaluation saying "exceeds standards"..the number that was done on me by an HIM director who i later was to learn found out I knew she was "playing doctor" with one of our married OB/GYN physicians and must have felt a bit threatened by that... is a story straight out of a "Fatal Attraction" spoof. On seeing my file in the end.. there was entry after entry of documentation that was literally untrue and fabricated.... when asking a lawyer what I could do.. the answer was nothing... they can fire at will... Some employers... and more specifically HIM directors...are bad people too...
Ergonomics for upper back pain?

I have been having tremendous problems with upper back pain right between my shoulder blades and up into my neck and right shoulder for weeks now.  It makes typing just miserable.

Doc said I had brachial plexopathy, and gave me narcotics and told me to quit transcription.  Since that isn't an option -- any ideas as to how to keep from getting this excruciating pain after an hour of typing?  It goes away on weekends when I don't sit at the computer, so I'm sure it's largely related to my positioning.  I've tried to fix my posture, but sitting up completely straight hurts worse than slouching.

Share any stretches, techniques for arm positioning, etc.  I will be extremely grateful.

Thanks!

Ergonomics for upper back pain
I find that it helps to get up and do a few stretch exercises. I have a 3-minute workout and microbreaks pamphlet that my husband got from his work that shows and explains some exercises including neck and back stretches. It does help when you get stiff from sitting and typing for so long. If you want me to type it up for you, just let me know and I will.
neck/upper back problems
Anyone else out there with neck and upper back problems.  I am having problems with neck spasms and it makes my head feel funny with pain into my jaw etc.  Another downfall to our jobs I guess.    Any tips from anyone that has had these and gotten relief would be much appreciated I do not like taking muscle relaxers.
I have consistently made in the upper $40s to mid $50s in this business.
I have not been chained to the computer. I have even worked just 3 days a week to make that. Long days, mind you, but still only 3 days a week.

I have a talent and great aptitude for this work. I also am fiercely protective of my work time/environment. I work very hard while I'm working. Thus, I do not have to work more than 40 hours a week.

Sit in disbelief all you want. Just remember, you are the one not making the money while many of us are.

Might be meaning the 3 boxes left upper corner??
the 3 little square boxed in the right hand corner, see them. The middle one makes a bigger screen. Unclick it and it goes back to regular size. This this what you meant.

I have such claustrophobia that it gives me a fright just looking at it!!!
Yikes, but I'm okay.

That really was rotten.  I feel better.  Throat actually was closing off this time.  Wow, I guess I've learned my lesson there.  Gotta be more careful.  My Daddy carries an Epi-Pen.  I guess it runs in the family.  This reaction was far worse than the last one.  I did take a Benadryl, thanks for asking.  I haven't had a chance to sleep it off, but MUST KEEP TYPING...I will be sending those puppies back.  Take care everybody!

As an SE, the company should have been taking out taxes for you and you would have to fill out a Schedule C. Delay the visit and talk to a CPA, not a tax preparer and take 2002, 2003 and 2004 to see if they need amending.

The $250 million lean medical transcription (MT) industry in India is racing ahead to grab a major slice of the global $12 billion pie.

Industry experts told Business Standard that as the industry is maturing, players are adopting productivity enhancing tools, stringent quality control measures and training programmes and top this with highly improved communication facilities.

With an acute shortage of required skill sets in the US, the industry is set to become a top foreign exchange earner in the coming years.

The industry, which collapsed due to the low quality of the MT business adhering to a view that the only skill required by employees in MT was to listen and type, has in the last two-three years witnessed a comeback with a strong consolidation.

As per a Nasscom report, MT will become the fourth largest foreign exchange earner in the next five years.

Shedding light over the industry's potential, Rajiv Shetye, vice-president (Indian operations), Spryance India says, "The Healthcare BPO is a $200 billion business worldwide and medical transcription alone is worth more than $12 billion. The $110 million Indian MT industry will grow to become a $ 5-6 billion one in the next three years."

With six to seven strong contenders and 200 serious players in all, the employment potential of the industry is huge.

"The MT service in India has generated over 20,000 jobs and will add atleast 25 per cent more jobs per year," said Suresh Nair, CEO and Managing Director, Spheris India and President, Indian Medical Transcription Industry Association (IMTIA).

As for Spheris, he said, "the company is growing at 50 per cent per annum and expects to increase its employee strength from 2,300 currently to 3,000 in the coming year."

Spryance has also deployed over 1200 MTs including home-based medical transcriptionists and editors. "In five years time we plan to ramp up our employee base to almost 10,000," says Shetye.

Noting that the Indian industry has come a long way from just employing English speaking graduates to employing doctors and students of medical science, Pankaj Bendigiri, an MBBS by qualification and manager of Spryance's Quality Assurance (QA) centre in Pune says, "MT as a profession is attracting doctors as it offers them lucrative remunerations and career options besides keeping them updated with the latest developments taking place in the field."

Spryance has 20 doctors in its 100 people team in Pune and has started a six month QA course for doctors.

"Currently the second batch of 13 doctors is undergoing training," said Bendigiri, adding that in the first batch they had trained seven doctors mostly from the disciplines of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Homeopathy Medicine and Surgery (BHMS).

With highly improved communication facilities, "The trend of home-based Medical Transcriptionists (HMT) is also on the rise," says Nair, who has 10 per cent of his 2,300 people team working from home and credits the industry average to be higher at 25 per cent with few companies recruiting over 90 per cent HMTs.

How you get the paint off depends on the type of paint it was.  Best bet is to get the can and determine whether it was oil based or acrylic and then contact the paint department of a paint store for assistance.

They need to address the quality issue with each MT, not just a general blanket thing for everyone.

This does not sound good for current employees of your ex-company.. good luck.. you gonna report the company to anybody?
YIKES is right! lol

yeah, its not good. I know several people are leaving, but they all know what happened to me and are taking steps to avoid it happening to them. I'm not going to report them to anyone, because I got paid finally, so not much I can do. i dont want to cause anyone any problems.. but I was getting ready to talk to a lawyer real soon if I hadn't been paid.  Just wish I could get back the 266.00 in bounce fees....plus all the fees it cost me every time my DD was late.

Yikes-
I don't think I would continue to do work for them if I were you.

Isn't it the law that you have to paid within a certain time frame? Or is that just when they are letting you go?
