You're very welcome!! I had a great time, too! Took a couple of extra BP pills!!
You have a great weekend!!!  MomMT - where did she go?? Too much cookies and milk, maybe?  Bye, Guys!!
I never said I wasn't a great MT.
It does take teamwork, however.  That's something I've noticed is SORELY lacking in this industry.  Everyone complains about everyone else instead of looking at their own contribution to the problem.  And garbage rolls downhill, so it's the MTs who get the brunt of it for EVERYTHING.  Everyone else thinks they're superior to the MTs, so there's no accountability whatsoever.  Instead, the blame is shifted to the lowest person on the totem pole, AKA the MT.  Righty oh?
That old time movie star Peter Lorie. There's just somethin about his eyes, so dern fascinating!!

If you're a fast typist,
(250-300 or more lph) you're probably going to lose money.  If you're a slower typist, you might break even.  It also depends on the job.  Some of them take longer to edit than to just straight type.
Maybe if you're fast and make 9 cpl

The way I figured it, to make $60k a year at 40 hours a week you have to type at least 300 lph and make 9 cpl.   Not many 9 cpl offers these days and only experienced, long-term MTs can do 300 lph on a regular basis.

Bet they didn't put that in the ad.

When I broke my ankle, I was just grateful it wasn't the hands. Without our hands we'd be totally screwed.

I broke my right ankle slipping on ice and was lucky to have gloves on because the palm of the glove was totally torn up and my hand was okay.

Good luck and be sure to do your exercises when it is time.
It was great tonight, wasn't it?

Agree! This company is great! Fast service. Big selection. Willing to help, too. nm

Chill in that you're all complaining and whining here, which is getting you NO where fast! Plus i
just soooooo tiresome to hear it 24/7. Again, its been going on forever. Period. And I assume you are referring to MQ, and then go on to imply how the service who treats their MTs right will have the most MTs, or whatever. Well, MQ has about 10K at any given moment!  Unethical to route work as you see fit?  Never!  That's the ropes! Some MTs just take everything soooooo personally.  Its not good for their mental health, literally.  Hey, I get a run of 10 reports from a great dictator whom I haven't heard in, say, 6 months, I just type them and move on! Perhaps I pause a microsecond to think, Hmmmm...he hasn't been around much, but glad he's here now!  To hear these whining complaining MTs, they just sit there and start plotting how this doctor got to their pool, where he's been in the interim, and its ALWAYS Indian MTs as the scapegoat, or the cherry pickers, or the VR got all the "good stuff".  They never just accept that its just THE WAY IT IS.  The roll of the dice - the MTs on line before them or with them - why does it always have to be something other than just fate?  Its so reflective of an unhappy persona, and its so self defeating.  Type it and be happy, or get another job!
For a great web site - try slimfast.com - The recipes are fast and easy -- congrats on trying to
eat healthy - it's hard for me cause I love burgers and fries, so I still cheat every once in a while --
Prob is then you may get all fast fast fast talkers...not a fair way nm

That is star wars, not star trek. I really wish they would
show the reruns for the series that had 7 of 9 as a character.
Working full time at home with small children is hard but part time works great
is almost impossible. You will either have to work when your spouse is home or for only a few hours during the day and then more when they are asleep. I work part time at home and my kids (2&5 now) have done very, very well. They are great kids, very well behaved, don't get into much. I stop working to check on them/give them some attention every hour or so while I work (5 hours each afternoon or so) and they get all my attention in the morning and at night. It has worked out beautifully for us.
That's great Patti. Thanks. Have a great time at the beach.

You'll do great!...sm

I've only been paid on salary, so I was not sure exactly what we were talking about here. I see now, there are a lot of things to take into consideration. You all have been SOOOOOOO helpful and are great!   THANKS

I'll bet I work for the same national! While I have great dictators, seriously they never say the
same thinge twice, save one surgeon who always ends his op reports with the same paragraph, which, of course, I have in my expander.  I mean it - there are probably 30 doctors, and I never ever get a repeat or any pattern at all! Again, I have a huge expander that I've set up on my own over the years, and rarely type more than a few words "longhand", but I still am not hitting over 200-250 lines an hour.  Oh well! At least I have great dictators, right?
Ssshhh! Maybe if we're all quiet she'll go away!

Thank you! I'll try that the next time it happens.....nm

I'll let you off the hook since you're also a Mustang lover.
I just like the '67s and '68s better because they're a little bigger and more rounded in the body style than the earlier years.  I dreamt of owning a Mustang for 20 years before I got one.
I agree, fishy. If you're an IC you'll have to take out approx.
30% on top of the 25% they're going to keep, but will you have to claim earnings of it all, even their 25%. Hmmmm, I think I'd be asking a LOT of questions because why aren't they just saying you'll make 9.75 cents instead of 13 cents that you'll really NOT be making.
You're asking for part of their market! It'll be a competition
You go ahead though. Keep us all informed.

I would include the why you're leaving part. They'll probably ask

flaming face - to me, denoting hostility, then complains essentially that all the people who make less than nice comments should go somewhere else. My point was that the original post seemed to be contradictory, starting off with a hostile style of emoticon, then wanting everyone to just get along.

I hope my point is more clear.
I'll be homeschooling for the first time

It's hard so that you'll fail the first time and
Tell your employer that the money you give to AAMT/ADHI for the 'privilege' of taking their test is funding the progressive offshoring of the American MT profession. If you've been an MT for nearly 30 years, you don't need a CMT after your name. You were a professional MT long before that bunch of con artists dreamed up that scheme to make themselves rich by making MTs think they were on their side. Now we all know better. Don't fund their offshoring scam!
They're supposed to be good luck. He'll find his way out when he's hungry. nm

Yeah, take the time to do it, and once you do you'll never forget the name of that catheter!!

I just bought a pair of Able Planet (Lynx) NC Headphones I'll give you a great deal on! SM
I did a ton of research and found that many preferred these headphones over the Bose. They were actually more expensive. I paid over $300.00 for these! The only reason I purchased these was because I could charge them on my Dell account. They really are awesome. I can't even hear myself type when I turn on the NC feature. They are comfortable, but after 18 years as an MT, I've just gotten used to the stethoscope style or earbuds.

If you'd like to contact me, I'll give you an offer you can't refuse!
:o) You're welcome. Have a great day! NM

Hey all you true ICs out there, you're great!

Loved your posts.  The other gal missed my point.  I committed myself to 25 hours a week.  Was not asked to commit to a certain number of lines, but I am continously asked for more.  I do it in the name of "teamwork," which is stressed at this company.  I understand their position, but it seems we are always behind.  Their fear is that if more people were hired then there's a chance we may run out of work for everyone.  Like I said before, I just need a little more flexibility.  I don't think as an IC that is too much to expect.  I work a regular schedule (9 to 5:30 with 1 to 1-1/2-hour lunch) and rarely take any time off except my two days now (and I was continously asked to work one of those).    Getting a vacation is another story.  It's time to move on.

Get a TOSHIBA!!! They're great!
Dell I found to be extremely limited, only 1-2 models.  Order a XP Toshiba!  $899 in Dec got me free shipping, no tax (it was a special), and a good workhorse XP with a DVD/CD multi format RW on a laptop, all the stuff I need without anything I don't.
Get out the timer. You'll have to force yourself to work uninterrupted for periods of time.
Just keep in mind that you WANT the money. Best of luck!
Next time I'll run my postings past you for approval then, okay, posting police?
I love the "my way or the highway" attitude. Get over yourselves.
Thanks ... guess I'll have to check it out some time ... like I need to find more ways to goof of

depends how fast the MT is......No one would want to pay me by the hour because I'm fast.
nm
how fast you can type, has little to do with how fast you can transcribe
Let's face it, we can only type as fast as the doctors dictate... worse, we can only type as fast as we can *understand* the doctors.  Given someone who slurs or has a heavy accent, someone who clears his throat constantly or shuffles through the paper, given an unfamiliar account or work type, or an area we don't have much experience in and have to look up words, etc., any and all of these things combine to make typing speed not really relative at all.  I personally type 110, but not when I'm transcribing.  I tell most folks who ask, if you type 65-75 wpm, you're solidly in the ballpark for doing medical transcription.
They're great - give 'em a try!
Nicest company I've worked for in years - respectful, patient, plenty of work and they appreciate their employees. They're a breath of fresh air.
