You read my post ABSOLUTELY correct. Supervisors don't need my appreciation nor

In Reply to: wow! totally speechless - did i read that right?

do I need their's.  We all just want to get paid if you are honest.  I don't have time to worry if I am appreciated by MQ.  I just want them to pay me for an honest day's work.  I guess that shows they like me, they really, really like me.  Talk is cheap.  I get it all the time from MQ CEO/management, how much I am appreciated.  I just want to paid for my time and don't want to hear all the talk.  I mean who really cares.  So if they appreciate me and don't pay me for my efforts, what do I do with this "appreciation"?  Bank it?

Absolutely correct! And . . .
I've been an MT since 1978 and the MT world revolved quite nicely in the days when we were all in-house and given credit for having a brain and being able to figure out how to compose a coherent paragraph with the crap dictation we were given to work with. QA never existed then and everything was just fine. No lawsuits that I can recall, so this is just more red-tape nitpicking on the part of the at-home services to kiss the client's butt and make them think they're getting something special.

So lame.
Absolutely correct!
Stupid people remain stuck in neutral. That's why they're stupid.
You are absolutely correct. Here's my fix.
I think that probably the easiest solution for those companies is to just hire employees. When it comes to trying to meet client TATs, scheduling shifts, etc., ICs are mainly a pain, anyway.
Absolutely correct!
People who knock college are just jealous of the people who did have the ambition and brains to go, and spend their lives complaining, passing blame, and resenting others (and themselves).

My oral surgery practice wants me to put cc, not mL. The paying customer's preference comes first!

Happy Fourth of July, all, by the way.
that would be absolutely correct!!

You are absolutely correct...

However, I worked on-site and only made $25,000.00 after 17 years, started at $7.00 an hour.  So, the ones who say they made $75,000.00 are not giving you all of the facts.

The realm of an MT per hour is from 13-17 an hour; look it up.  It's true.  However, if you have your own accounts (which I do), I charge more per line and have templates set up so that I breeze through my dictators that I've done for the past 10 years, which yields me around 25-30 an hour.  These circumstances are not common, I know that now.

I think you're doing great!  Keep up the good work!  I'm not here to blast ya'!  You are the wave of the future; no MT will get rich and never have been rich.

I think some of us who have been in this profession though see that it's tough to raise rates at this time because of the fear of losing the account to a large company.  I'm just a small guy, I don't require much really, so I'm happy with what I make.  I also love being at home full-time.  I'm able to manipulate my schedule and not feel so "hum-drum."  I learn something new every day, not all pretty either, but I've learned more specialties working online than on-site.

At this point in my life (I'm in my 30s), this profession suits me just fine.  Advice to new MTs, give it a whirl!  You may be surprised that you really can make some money if you just relax and stop listening to the "nay-sayers."  As a matter of fact, I have never done VR, but think it would be interesting.  If pretty much everything is there, then all the better; this may be another good way for a new MT to break into the business and learn is with the VR...

Endorsed by an MT who still feels "liked, wanted, and needed" in this profession!

You are absolutely correct.
It should be 'were given'. Before having children and staying home to MT, I spent 6 years teaching English and grammar - 'were' in this case is grammatically correct.
Yes you are absolutely correct....

It is the on-site jobs that gets ya' out there....  Some docs are just great payers and know good work when they see it.  I think they like local because you are familiar with all of the things that go into that report, i.e., referring physicians, facilities, diagnostic centers, etc.  It saves them the headache of correcting all of those mistakes.

My own personal PCP has complained to me in an office visit about the local hospital that uses an outside service and can never get his name right.  The problem is that the physicians are not the ones making the decisions, it is the hospitals that make those decisions as far as in the hospital environment.  I know physicians at the hospital that I worked at that were p'od when they found out we would no longer be transcribing their reports.  They were just so set in their ways and they got good TAT and a good quality report - but no more, and yes I still to this day hear terrible feedback about the outsourced company and how the doctors spend countless hours correcting things.  End of Story...  {sigh}

regarding MQ wanting e-mail from supervisors, etc. Why? Who cares what supervisors want?
It's like little kids wanting recognition from their parents.  These supervisors for the most part are anonymous.  Who really cares about e-mails from them unless they are offering more money or a bonus?  There is nothing else I care to hear from them.  I do my work with or without them.  I figure everytime I get a supervisor e-mail, I am paying for it with my time and I am also paying that supervisor to state the obvious, either the account is behind or caught up.  Really, I am paying the supervisor's salary.
You're absolutely correct sm
I've had editors tell me that they love getting my reports with blanks because they know they can go directly to the blank and try to fill it in, they say some MTs they have to almost completely re-type the report which takes more time than typing it in the first place.  I know this to be true from my own editing.  I tried to work with the MTs if they could be salvaged.  If they still insisted on not doing their job, I did my job until they were relieved of their work duties.  :)

Above two replies absolutely correct!
Rules and standards are necessary but they should be uniform. ''Rules'' cannot be followed when they are arbitrary--the individual preferences or whims of whatever QA person gets the report. Great posts!
Absolutely...this is the place to correct
and please correct me before I send a mailing to doctors! I do think cai would appreciate it in that respect. Definitely, help a sister out when you get a chance!
poster above is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT...sm
A tech support person who used to work for a certain company I used to work for...well, we knew one another before and after we both quit, he gave me the scoop on what these companies do. It is underhanded and deceitful and downright dishonest. that is why I do NOT trust NOT ONE MTSO anymore....they are all dishonest......I don't care how good a company is stated to be on any board.

All they care about is the mighty dollar...the owners of all of these companies....they are getting richer and richer and some of us are one foot away from being homeless.

I have no respect for any of these companies, nada, zero.....

Absolutely!!! Mine has been correct 95% of the time....
BUT - you have to do your own or have somebody knowledgeable do it for you. You really have to know what you're doing and understand it. The 5% that I don't get right is because of "pilot error" - screwed up on the math - AGAIN!!!
Mom's a smart lady and absolutely correct!
Online dating also falls into the desperate category. If someone doesn't want to meet people the conventional, in-person way, they have to be:

1. Socially challenged.
2. Facially challenged.
3. Vertically challenged.
4. Weight challenged.

There are a lot of people out there who do that kind of thing and that's their choice, but I'd rather meet face to face instead of trolling the computer from behind a monitor looking for goofs that no one in the real world would want.
Oh please, drop the drama - she is absolutely correct.

I absolutely agree with you. You've made it grammatically correct
hope this all comes through.

Your change is much better than the one suggested below which totally changes the sentence and would not be correct in my opinion.
Yes, I read your post, and I just re-read it, and I've copied and pasted for you in case

you've forgotten your own words! Your post above is 100% different "flavor" to it, now all positive and cheery! Your first post was 100% doom and gloom every which way, including "raining on your parade", and "if you want to go forward"...God, sounds like she's talking about jumping into oncoming traffic! Here is your quote:

My first boss (the one who hired me as a new grad) gave me some words of wisdom that I haven't forgotten. She said that transcribing at home with small children NEVER works under any circumstance. Either the work will suffer or the parenting will suffer.

****

How can the word "NEVER" in caps be interpreted in any positive way? You took about 8 paragraphs to cover every aspect and completely dash this poor woman's dream.  I'm not blind, I'm not talking about day care at all, I'm talking about the total negativity of your original post! You know exactly what I'm talking about, cause you added some sugar to your second version! And that's much nicer than the first!

Thanks. I was going to correct my post.
After being told I had to download the new version for InScribe, I was told I could not use any outside player. I misunderstood the reason for that and just assumed that they meant it would not work with an outside player, Express Scribe, Gearplayer, etc.

After going back and fourth with questioning about this, I finally found out that it's the MTSO who does not want an outside player used and will only allow the built-in player.

So it has nothing whatsoever to do with InScribe and I apologize for causing problems.

However, the new version does require the USB pedal (according to the tech guy at Emdat).
This post is 100% correct in that
the way social security was set up was not entitlement. I have paid for years and I am choosing not to take retirement now at my retirement age, not because I do not have the income from retirement funds and other places but because I feel I can still work and be productive. I see no reason whatsoever to quit at a time when my skills are still good and I can contribute to my home- also I know by continuing to work just is pooling more money if and when I decide to take my social security. I would not be so ignorant to take early retirement if I did not do planning ahead of time.
Thank you for this absolutely wonderful post

I'm going to work on this over the weekend. I do work in small phrases rather than whole paragraphs (for the most part), but a lot of your ideas  I had never thought of. It was very VERY kind of you to take the time to share this. I'll have to let everyone know how it increases my count!

God Bless You!

Absolutely agree 100% with your post!

This post is correct in its content.

You're correct on this post!!....sm

I suppose the platform used has A LOT to do with it - I didn't think of that prior to my post back at you.  *S*  I'll have to rethink it all.  But I am far faster on ASR than any regular reports (well, I get tons of ESL as we all do today).

*S*

The post above you completely correct
and why do you have to get up on the wrong side in order to state what is the truth? You have no rights per se to work from home- it is their job and like her, I would be very glad just to have had the chance to work from home. The job owes her absolutely nothing other than to pay her for her work. A reality check is indeed in line. Too many prima donnas here thinking they should be given the ability to call the shots. Ha!
The above post totally correct
IN the 80s I made almost 60 thousand but not anymore. Some will come on and say they make that much but just with a 40 hour week, not anymore.
This type of post is absolutely rediculous
Why in the world do people come to this board asking such questions? Unbelievable!
Now, if someone could post the correct way to insert these smileys. They are so cute! nm

Above post is correct, see link - Ashe disclosed himself...

somebody called the press and leaked the story - but absolutely no identification that it was a healthcare worker. More likely an old ex-girflriend!

"Ashe, who was ranked first in the tennis world in 1968 and 1975, said with some bitterness that he was making his disclosure only because the newspaper USA Today had called him last week and revealed that it was working on a story saying he had AIDS. "

I was not answering MT school post but the one that happened to correct an error
they made on a post with this quote "that is verbatim. QAs are only human too." So you can mind your own business and STFU. Answer your own posts if you can't read the ENTIRE THREAD and understand what post my post is RELEVANT too. You are an arrogant QA person BTW who sits in judgement of posters and what is relevant or not. Just MIND YOUR BUSINESS.
You are the Sharon who posted above correct? The post that kyradmt responded to?

I agree, nasty and rude people lately, where are the grownups is correct in a former post.
I agree with all you said. I come here sometimes just to share thoughts, experiences, and to really help others as it helps me to help. There are some unnecessary, hurtful responses on here. The admin cannot police all and she should not be expected to. Have a little consideration, people, we are all in the same lifeboat here. As for leaving the profession, think about it. I have been tempted many times, have tried working in other fields but totally boring after hearing all that I've heard as an MT. I can't read a non-fiction book as it all seems so shallow and ridiculous to me. For too many years I have shared the lives of people on a real, non-fictional basis through my work. It is an interesting and informative profession and even doctors are amazed at how much information I have  in this little brain of mine. I have on occasion saved many people in my family (including myself) from unnecessary harm or eary intervention. Please think about it before you leave us. As for this board, I llove it except for the nasty posts, but that's life. As we all know, it takes all kinds. Most people here belong in the helping profession. If they're in it for the money, it shows. Character shows up in the positive posts on here. We are, after all, supposed to be in the helping profession, not the kill or be-killed attitude some have. I would say most of us come in here for  knowledge, friendship and just plain sharing. If we have a little laugh once in awhile, it helps, but not when it turns into a cat fight. IMHO, of course!
Did you read my post?

First of all there was tear gas canisters thrown by the guardsmen into the crowds and they were thrown back at the guardsmen.  That is documented in articles, (look on line) and by first hand eye witnesses that were there.

Anyway, my post was not about what exactly went on at Kent State.  I was using that as an example of how your child could go to college and find themselves in a position of danger.  Serial killers, rapists, what have you.  It was in response to a post about how Natalee went to Aruba and found trouble but that probably wouldnt be likely at a college.  OKAY?????  I never said people didnt have the right to protest or that war was good OR that the gov was responsible or not.

I am all for protesting and exercising our rights as private citizens of this free country.  But somewhere along the way from my original post, someone got off on a completely different subject.  this was about natalee.

Did you even READ my post?
It's been a great, lucrative career for me. I've loved it from the start and still do. I've mentored and encouraged many along the way. I'm a QA specialist, college instructor and a consultant. I'll exceed 50K this year and have a very flexible schedule. No weekends, no evenings, and take off when I want. Additionally, I've been at home with my kids all this time. I've worked my way to the top and I'm good at what I do. No gloom and doom here. The point I made (that you somehow missed) was that times have changed. It's much more difficult than it used to be and sometimes it's nearly impossible to get a break. I'll repeat myself--I work for a private college. We trained many great MTs. We were FORCED to drop our program because of job market for new graduates is so poor. It's not too difficult to place a graduate in an in-house position (I teach in a large metropolitan area), but few women enter this profession with working in-house as their goal. Tuition at a private college (students could earn a certificate or an associate's degree) is very, very expenstive. No, you don't HAVE to spend thousands and thousands, but many students do. Then when they graduate, many are faced with harsh reality. I'm not SPECULATING on this; I've seen it happen time and time again.

The daycare issue is a personal choice and has been argued into the ground. We all know it's difficult for an MT to be productive and accurate with a 2-year-old whining in our ear. Some of us make it work; others can't. Making an informed decision requires hearing stories from ALL sides.

Oh my!! I think we should all NOT read the new post at the top! Looks like another
flamer to me! Now its gonna spin into birth control issues and world over population!  I'm not mad at anyone! I am happy! Please be happy, too!!  I will try warm milk, but just in about 6 hours when I'm hitting the hay!
Are you the OP? Yes, I read your post.
I didn't even say anything about "correcting their wrong crap." (Nice structure, by the way.)

The question was "Why go to MT School." I answered it.
1. It gives you more flexibility/choices in employment.
2. You learn relevant aspects of medical terminology. I didn't learn "perineal" vs. "peroneal" in K-12, nor did I learn that 125 mg of Synthroid is an incorrect dose.
3. You get experience in hearing what was said and transcribing it accurately. Many MTs lacking an adequate MT education have difficulty separating "what they hear" from "what they said."

I read your post below, thank you and....

As for above I should say people do need "protein" in their diet, NOT meat, especially not like this.  I've also been trying to slowly get it out of my diet the past few years and after seeing the images, knowing and hearing those sounds I don't think I could physically eat it.  Its unbelievable to me.  We need people like you out there spreading the word, these animals have no voice so they need us.  Do you know if putting pressure on them by PETA has brought about any changes??

Do you have ADD? Did you read my post? sm

I have work now that pays me well and it's more than 10 cents a line (which is considered an "excellent line rate.")  I do not need to "start my own company."

However, if some companies can charge 18 to 20 cpl (which I have read on this board), why can't they pay quality MTs more than they pay newbies?

This is a MUST READ post, the 20 yr exp...etc. nm
x
Of course I read your post.

I can comprehend that you are a WEE bit prone to exaggeration and apparently it is making your life miserable.  If you look through this website you will quickly see that many posts do not concern MQ.

My take on this is that right now there are many more MQ posts because of the looming change in our jobs/status/benefits and it's got many of us worried.

If you want an edited MT forum to your liking I suggest you open your own site.  Otherwise live and let live, please.

when I read your post...
I get angry that as transcriptionists we have somehow found ourselves in a no-win situation. There should be no reason you are having to work yourself to death to learn a new job. Only in our profession does one NOT get paid to learn. Any other job you go to, you are paid while training for the job...no matter how much you know the work, places are different and everyone has to learn the routine. And in transcription, this can be VERY, VERY hard to learn a new company and all their account specifics, rules and guidelines and systems!  I feel for you. I understand your feelings about your son. I raised my son alone on my sole salary and worked from sun up to sundown ... but I did stop long enough in between to take care of him. I went to ballgames, I went to school functions, I helped with homework and projects, etc. and when he went to bed at night, I started working again.... well into the night. It was not easy, but I got to be with my son and participate in his school and curricular activities while he was growing up. I would not take ANYTHING for that time and wish I had more of it now. I did what I had to do. Thank goodness in your situation, you have a husband who can share some of this responsibility with you. It's a matter of prioritizing... and it's not easy. It means giving up certain things. I sacrificed a lot over the years .. I don't drive fancy cars, I don't live in a fancy house and I have a very functional wardrobe. I don't compare myself to others. I find that I am much happier than others I work around now who have all those things. My son is much more well adjusted than many of their children also.I am very blessed. We have our children for such a short time, it's not until we get older that we realize exactly how precious every single minute of it was!  I wish for you the best and hope you can make the right decision for you and your family.  May God Bless you.
I did read the post
I think she means the virtual money that the MTSO would be pocketing if they had no QA. The money they would not need to be paying to QA if all of their MTs were "up to par" and did their jobs, or the "reality" of a company needing fewer QA personnel when they have more MTs that need less/no QA.

Do you really think that MTs who send work to QA to save themselves time rather than looking it up and finding it on their own deserve to be paid the same as the MTs who take pride in their work and ensure quality work is sent in by them rather than having someone else complete the job?
Wow! I have read every post, actually, all day. While
I did truly feel sorry for you, by night's end I am honestly thinking that you are needing to step back and calm down. This morning you were more "owning" your part in it - that you were late several times, had warnings, etc - by now you are going on and on about contacting the doctor, about some other lady who did so, yadda, yadda. I feel your pain - been there done that - most of us old MTs have, but you need to calm down, still own your part, and be rational. If you want to freak and contact the doctor, then just do it, but I believe every single one of us who posted have advised against it, and given you valid reasons to support our opinions. You ASKED for opinions - that's why you are posting, so though you don't like what I have to say, it is my right as well. Again, your tone has done a huge turn around from your original post, and I can now honestly say I empathize with the MTSO who does not want to keep communicating with you, whether via email or IM. It happens - we get fired. Why not look at it that she gave you another week to earn some $$  - I don't know. Again, you admitted your part in this earlier, and you have been advised many times how unprofessional it is for you to contact HER clients. You did NOT work for the doctor(s) - you worked for the MTSO, like it or not. And never believe what some other fired MT tells you she/he did - I don't know 1 single doctor who would give a hoot about a fired MT, nor who would want to get involved with a 10 foot pole. That's why the doctors use MTSOs - they don't want the bother. So while you may think you are going to get sympathy, and/or revenge, it will most likely backfire on you. Good night! Its late, and I am out of here!
You should read your own post over again...
You were the one who attacked me and yes, I got on here for support and advice so I came looking for it. I am not saying that I am going to contact the doctor, only that I feel that angry to do it. I have had my own accounts before, typing directly for doctors, I know what that is like. I have also helped other MT's to try to learn the business and for you to get on here and post that I am obsessed and that you are passing judgment without even konwing a person, wow, you have some problems. This forum is for support and yes, opinions too. Why don't you quit worrying about how many times I am posting? I can post as many times as I would like, on any board that will allow posting. By the way, doctors don't just use MTSO's, there are also doctors who use MT's and have contracts with them. Not all of them hire big companies, I think there are still a few MT's around who have their own accounts. I know I did. I wanted the opportunity to not have to drive around and print and have my work more readily available, so I decided to work for an MTSO. Excuse me for not getting my work in on time a few times, due to a storm or two knocking out my power, a sick child to take to the doctor, a death in the family. Whatever the case may be, let me bow down to the MTSO and beg for forgiveness, is that what you want? I have stated my situation here and you have turned it into your own power trip. What a shame. Who asked for the MTSO to KEEP communicating anyway? They never communicated to begin with!! Would you feel upset if your paycheck were taken away? I guess not. Maybe you have a lot of friends you can call or family you can talk to and get support from. Excuse me for looking for some fellow MT's for venting. Sorry to have upset you!! Are you an MT? I highly doubt it.
