I guarantee you I am looking. I pity anyone who gets hired by MQ for Amherst. That all situation is an absolute joke. They need to get rid of the people up there responsible for these problems.

Can anyone suggest an office in MQ that is not run like this Amherst office. They are absolutely

I work out of the Amherst office and have gotten a letter about not making quota for insurance purposes--HELLO--I can not make my lines each pay period if I have no work. I have called and emailed the office numerous times explaining the lack of work, been given more accounts, and yet run out of work but yet the hiring of newbies continues and from what I gather from the posting, all of Warminster is now in Amherst also. After reading the SEC comments on MQ and the money spent on lawyers, contract buy outs, loss of clients and lowser rates, I wonder where we will all end up. With the Atlanta office closing on 9/1/2005, I wonder how many more offices are closing between now and the end of the year. The closing of offices was one of the things mentioned in the disclosure, sorry, the conslidation of offices, termination of office employees, telecom cuts--all ways for MQ to save money. I guess you would have to after spending $18 million dollars on lawyer fees already and none of the lawsuits are settled.

Could people in the Amherst office tell me
whether the accounts they work for are local to their area, or do you do accounts that are across the country? The particular account I work on, I trained with all the ladies on it a couple of months ago on DQS (we all worked on it in another office w/o DQS), and so far, we have a lot of work.
Wondering if the problem with lack of work just depends on which accounts you work on and not necessarily a problem as a whole.
You mean Amherst has a bunch of liars also in the office. Seems to be the MQ way.

Just got transferred to the Amherst office and am wondering what to expect from that transfer.

Well supposed to be working and GUESS WHAT NO WORK AGAIN AT AMHERST MQ. No doubt in my mind that
they could care less about the MT, if you make money or starve. These people are absolutely crazy. There is no doubt in my mind.
I have asked numerous times if people like the Amherst office but seems no one ever offers their
opinion about that office. Just transferred there and I am sure many other MTs on here work out of that office.

Do not work for Amherst if you can work for any other office in MQ. It is terrible. They overload
accounts terribly. We are always running out of work or need to have 8 or 9 backups to get lines in. This is the way it is. There may be a few out there that it is different but I do acute care and was just transferred there along with my office and everyone in my office is in the same boat. Not a good deal at all.
Good old Amherst and couple with their ridiculous QA point plan. They people in AMHERST ARE NUTS. I
hope MQ loses all of its good MTs and then the hospitals can yell about quality and leave. My account just disappeared after being transferred up there and then find they have hired new people for it.

In order to get my quota last week (which I did not get) I began my day at 2:30 that morning and at 5:30 p.m. realized I was not going to make it. I called my supervisor, who told me to stay on until midnight and at least try to get it. Before we hung up, she said be sure you are back on at your regular time, which is 3 a.m. So work until midnight and back up at 3. I stayed on until 10 p.m. and called it quits. I then got a call about not making quota and asked what I was going to do to correct this and was told that I needed to put more time into work. When I inquired if I was the only one not making quota, she said no, there are several. I asked what account, and of course, we are all on the same account - very difficulty ESL. At this point, I don't care anymore. I work 50+ hours, attend college full time and have a family. I am no longer willing to do this. They don't care, so why should we. I am very frustrated.
I guess it depends on which office you get switched to now doesnt it.

I think anyone whose accounts have been transferred to Amherst needs to email Amherst and also to
let their supervisors know at their office if it is still open what is happening here. We also have to deal with no weekend pay, no holiday pay, NO WORK so expected to sit around for holidays for nothing and NO WORK and their QA and no blanks situation when we are on 8 accounts. This is an absolutely ridiculous situation and Corporate needs to be made aware of it and if they do nothing then I hope MQ loses all its MTs and accounts for all the blanks and poor quality work that does back to the hospitals. That is always what happens when you do this.

Maybe all of MQ will be like Amherst or maybe so many of us at Amherst have not work they gave us
other accounts in other offices. They sure overhired but a lot have quit because of no work. One thing for sure, you wont get the truth out of your supervisor.

research before committing time and money to training. By the way, you've made a very good choice for your education. Andrews is the gold standard for MT education. Read all the sticky topics (especially at the top of the New MTs section), read the archives, read the Andrews forum on that site, read the messages posted on the MT Business board; in short, read everything. I've been an IC with many companies and an employee with a few others. I've found that many if not most of the supervisors and managers at these places are dead weight authoritarians who get high and justify their existence by puking on people who work for a living. I left at least one place precisely because they tried to hold me responsible for mistakes made by the dictator. Happens all the time.
I wouldn't wish a future in MT on anyone.

in getting rid of credit cards - just down to 1 bank card and 1 store card that I only use when having a sale and we need new clothes and that I have 90 days to pay off without interest.
It's wise to dedicate one pc solely
for work purposes, in addition to having a back-up pc available. If you do not have a medica/pharma spellchecker download on your pc, it's a good idea to purchase it. Depending on who you will be transcribing for you may need an unlimited long distance calling plan if you do not have it already. A high speed connection is recommended and necessary by most companies. Up-dated virus protection is a must. A printer may be required. You are a step ahead of the game by already having purchased a desk and a comfortable chair, which are a must. If you need to purchase a foot pedal, I would recommend buying a new one. So, depending on what you already have, start-up costs can run anywhere from $100.00 to approximately 1,000.00, and while it may seem like a huge expense, you should recoup these expenses within 3 months of working. that's not gonna last you a lifetime! I think you should be reasonable. What about health insurance? Are you married? Do you have a lot of debt? There are a lot of factors inolved.

I do much better $ wise with clinic notes
I have local office accounts and also work part-time for a national. The repetitive nature of doing the same dictator day in and day out increases my production at least 30-50%; more expanders, more normals, familiar terminology, etc.
Right now I am averaging $25.00+ an hour on my local notes, and less than $12.00 with my national acute care. I do have more taxes and such with my locals as it is 1099 income but I still come out much better on clinic notes.

I have to pay $60 a month for LOCAL service only.They don't have DSL where I live. They keep saying they are going to get it here, but it's been 4 years since that statement was made..
Thanks for the suggestion, though. It seems that these companies think everybody lives in a progressive area and make a lot of money. I live in a rural area and the phone company has no interest in being #1 where I live. I have a choice of Comcast or Direct TV and that's it.

You are wise to hold off on a major purchase until sm
you see how the system is going to pay. Eight years ago our hospital outsourced their department and I went with the account to a large national. I went from making $24-26 an hour to making $8-10 an hour. It has taken me 8 years to get back up to $16-18 an hour. One of the girls that I worked with had just built a new house. I'm not positive, but I believe she lost it.
This change may not affect you much, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just wait until you see how it turns out. It may not make much difference at all to your salary. But you can always look for a house when you're sure of your financial situation. Good luck.
Penny wise and pound foolish
Cheap ones don't save in voice files. They're hard to use so most likely your doc will not bother to pause or rewind for dictation. You may save some money now but you will end up wasting more time to decipher the recording. The best one is Olympus DS5000... every word can be heard clearly with that.
