Your argument does not hold water.

A hurricane in those areas of Texas may indeed have never been so far inland, but that's the nature of natural disasters. For 4 years now Homeland Security has been trying to drill it into the minds of the American people that you need to be prepared for ANYTHING. Maybe next time it will be a terrorist hit. Maybe an earthquake along New Madrid. Don't you believe your survival should be dependent on yourself? Or do you expect the govt to swoop in and take care of it for you? The sheeple need to wake up. Get prepared and stay prepared!

sorry but reaons don't hold water...

"Leasing also allows you to get more car for the money "  nooooo...leasing allows you to drive more car than you can actually afford. It's a version of living beyond your means.

"Lease payments are much lower than buying"  talk about needing instant gratification!  Leasing per mile is always more expensive than ownership. You forget, at the end of the lease, you give the car back. At the end of the same $$ spent in car payments, you could sell the car and get MONEY back.

"You will always have a car payment (which we would anyway)." And you will always live paycheck to paycheck, but then maybe you would anyway!

"Always be within warranty and only pay for gas and basic maintenance." There's other ways to do this. You can buy a car and trade it in every five years and only pay for gas, maintenance and be within warranty.

"Then again, you will always have a new car" - yea, that someone else owns, not you.

Not flaming, but the rationale behind some of these comments just burns me up. Buying a new car from a dealer is the worse way to do it - except leasing a new car from a dealer. For Pete's sake, think about it! Obviously they are making a ton of money off of you-- otherwise they wouldn't do it!!!

Save your money, watch for a cream puff in the classifieds, buy something with 30,000 miles or less, with cash. Then you can laugh all the way to your garage.

Just to mention why I think I'm in a position to give this advice? We own our home free and clear (7 years old, worth $500,000), own 2 cars and a truck that's paid for. Our latest vehicle is a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pick up. $33,000, paid $14,500 cash for it.  Have over 200,000 in our IRA's. And guess what. I'm an MT and he's a machinist. No corporate paychecks here. There's a way to manage your money, or your money will manage you.

Water here, too. I fill water bottles halfway and freeze them
so I have ice water for the entire day.  It's easier than trying to cram ice cubes down the little mouths of the bottles.  I confess to having coffee, Earl Grey tea and a cola today because I'm too tired from the idiots who were rodding their cars around in front of the house from midnight until 3:00 a.m. last night.  Oh, well.  At least I'm off today.
argument baiter
God bless you also.
Must this same old argument come up once a week? Sm

I have no possible way to cherrypick (and wouldn't if I did have a way, I detest that) as my work is manually assigned at the start of the day. I am a very high producer and do 2000+ lines in 3-4 hours. Always have.

It has to do with knowing your dictators (there are hundreds at the three hospitals I do) and using macros and expanders. That's all.

It's not as easy to do if you're not using free-standing Word or something, but for IC's working at home, yep, every day it's done.

hi, i'm not involved in this argument, not trying to be mean
in?  Congrats on getting a degree, I think thats wonderful!  A lot of hard work.
No argument here. Since I can make (sm)

Peanuts!  It wasn't worth it.

I need help resolving an argument please! (sm)
Would someone please explain the difference between a medical assistant and a physician assistant.  Have a friend who's girlfriend has him convinced she's a PA.  She takes vitals and history from the patients before they are seen by the podiatrist.  She is a CMA, NOT a PA.  Someone please help me resolve this issue with an explanation or link to website describing specific differences in education and status!! He's driving me nuts!
I am not looking to start an argument--sm
about this or anything else, for that matter. You make some valid points, but I don't even like the idea of chlorine being added to tap water...no matter what the ratio. If I wanted to drink bleach, I would do so, but I don't, and I do not think it should be forced on the general public as being safe either, because it isn't. Besides that...chlorine is not the *only* chemical used in treating pool water, either, and unless you are the person treating the pool water, you really have no idea of what *ratios* are adhered to, or how it can affect a person with a sensitivity. Just my opinion, so don't get defensive. All I am saying is that if the boy's voice was affected by *something*, there was a problem and it should be looked into. JMO
They are just trying to start an argument. I know a
guy that is in a relationship like this, roles reversed. I would have left her a long time ago!
Sounds like you are just looking for an argument.
Type what the doctor said. If it sounds incorrect, blank it and let the hospital know.

How hard is that?

Please help with "discussion" with boyfriend (argument)

Boy, I love that this board is available.  I'm an IC and only have catastrophic insurance so there's no mental health access available for me.

Anyway, here it is:

1.  I've noticed over the years that my boyfriend has periods of what seems to be a depression. It impacts his treatment of me, it then kind of upsets our routine and, of course, it upsets me. It seems that NOTHING I do or say can get him out of it.  In fact, the perkier or more cheerful I try to be, the more he withdraws (I must pretty get annoying, too, do ya think? with all that perkiness).  So I just try to stay out of his way and it usualy doesn't last more than about 10 days, usually more like 3-4.  Sometimes he can go up to as long as a month or two without one of these episodes.

2.  When I try to talk to him about my concerns he generally goes into a denial thing.  It's usually a given, with him, that anything wrong in our relationship or even sometimes in his relationships with others, is absolutely my fault, but that's another story.  So when I mention casually or carefully that he seems down, is everything all right it kind of makes him get mad and aggressive and usually he will say "yeah, WHY?" kind of in an ugly way.  So as I said, usually I say nothing.  On occasion, he has admitted that he gets down at times but that's all he'[ll say, and then later he doesn't seem to remember that he admitted this.

3.  A while back I approached him about his depressed mood and he got kind of defensive.  I mentioned that he acts particularly down around his brother and that his brother had said that he noticed he seemed depressed quite a bit lately and thought he was "suicidal" although I think the brother was just kind of exaggerating on the suicidal thing.  I only mentioned the brother commenting on his being down because, as always, my boyfriend usually denies any problem, and says it just my making things up.

4.  Today my boyfriend got very angry that I had told him that his brother said he thought he seemed depressed - what kind of a girlfriend would mention something like that.  I said "a caring one" and should I just "pretend nothing is wrong" and no one else sees this either?  I said it wasn't meant to be an attack but a reaching out.  A couple other folks have seen my boyfriend in his depressed state and commented on it also (I have never told him that).  I said one of the reasons I mentioned his brother's comment was because he always negates what I say, tells me it's basically all in my head, nothing is wrong with him....blah-blah-blah.

5.  He asked me how I would feel if my family talked to HIM about them thinking I was depressed.  I said I would be touched and concerned and most of all would feel like they really cared about me.  I certainly wouldn't be enraged.  He says I am lying about that.  He said it over and over that I couldn't possibly feel that way.  I said that depression is not like calling someone dishonest or cruel, that it's out of that realm completely.  That when people ask about how you are doing that they care about you.  He laughs cruelly at me when I say these things.  He also says this has driven a wedge into our relationship, that he can't trust me and that all I want to do say mean things about him.  I say "huh, what in the heck are you talking about?"

6.  Incidentally his sister committed suicide after cycles of depression for many years.  The family knew she had problems but didn't really get involved or try to contact her or do an intervention in the weeks before her suicide.  Most of all, they didn't talk to each other about what was going on either.   I was thinking this was perhaps family tradition to turn away from highly charged emotional issues?  I don't know, as I said, I don't operate like that.  I'm more from the school of "hey, there it is - let's talk about it.  But everytime I try to talk about it he denies it or tells me I'm lying.

I didn't want to turn this into an argument, like someone said, its just a fun thread..but
Look at Jude Law, he is as fit as a fiddle!  Strong prominent jaw line, piercing blue eyes.  Toby Keith has a round chubby face, no comparison here!  He's probably bald underneath the cowboy hat too.
astounding. and argument lady doesn't get it does she?
I mean she missed the whole point and then goes onto some education jag. Tangential flight of ideas. Psych material.
When one cannot win an argument with logic they resort to name calling.
They can't help themselves. It's instinct (hee).
Laura Bush. Not to start an argument, LOL, I really do. nm
.
I know because we are back to the SAME argument but worse this time...
We have spoken today briefly. He is furious. He is saying everything is my fault, etc. I just told him I am tired of the bickering back and forth, that it is both our faults, and if he wants to do the bills he can have them - but I reminded him last time he was offered this but did not look at the bills one single time. What can I do? Nothing I don't think.
Oh I forgot to mention what actually started our argument today...sm

What started our argument today is his mom and dad have been living in this house, if that is what you can call it, for about 20 years...they never cleaned it or anything (his mom said because "why bother when it is hopeless).  Well I don't care how small of a house it is it can still be clean.  Well, they come into some money, a few hundred thousand dollars, and they go out and buy this 150k house.  They say since we are having a hard time with our payment, being 2 payments behind, then we can "have" their old house.  The house is on lease land and the floors are rotted.  Well I felt like it would take a load of our shoulders and actually I felt like that was the only way we were going to get out of this mess..  We go down there, begin to clean one day....over 3 HUGE Flex bags by Glad of trash just from their bathroom - filled to the rim!!!! Flexed to the max....

I get back thinking of how bad it would hurt to walk out my door at my house for the last time and go live there.  So I said, "NO, I will fight for my house. I will work what hours needs to be worked, etc.  I am saving my house."  He gets mad, because his parents say we are going to lose it anyhow.  But hey - they had all of that money...we only needed $1,000.00 - could they not have lent it to us?????  But he thought I was wrong for asking after I told him I WOULD WORK TO GET US CAUGHT UP....I said, "well, if my son EVER needs anything like that, especially something to save his home, I will do what it takes to help him...And surely if I had came into hundreds of thousands of dollars, I think I could spare or lend 1,000.

Sorry...I am hurt.

You've made my point with your inspid argument
And clearly if all you are doing is "correcting doctors spelling" you are not a transcriptionist..not sure what you are doing. I stand by my demand for appropriate compensation. Ya'll be happy being categorized as typists and making your $8.00 to 11.00 an hour. Unbelievable you would justify this...simply unbelievable.

disciplined, IMO. It's a toy and should stay home and not come to school.

At my grandson's daycare they get kicked out for making guns out of Legos! No guns in school anywhere, any time, any shape, form or fashion.

Lord, we made bazookas out of big sticks, rifles out of smaller ones, and handguns out of little bent ones. Then we proceeded to kill each other all over the place - the difference is that we didn't do it when we grew up.

Yes, and that same jug of water costs how much after it's
been paid for with tax dollars, hauled in on trucks, and handed out by National Guardsmen and FEMA workers who are being paid and are away from their own families? That little jug of water costs more to the taxpayers than Perrier.

Don't put in dishwasher, water gets too hot, but you

can wash in the tub or shower.   I've washed mine 3 times in the shower.  I don't use anything, just hot water and run over it a few times, let it sit for a bit and then run water again to get anything really sticky off.  I then shake it upside down really good and then place it upside down on a towel near a vent to dry.  It takes me 3 days to get it dried out good.  I've used it in 2 days and kept getting errors, so let it dry a third day and no problems.

You can take a warm damp cloth and wipe over the keyboard. I would suggest unplugging it from the computer so you don't reprogram something.  I also take an index card and run it down between the keys.  You'd be surprised how much dust/animal hair you get out.  I also turn my keyboard over and thumb it a couple of times on my tray and that gets out a lot of crumbs.

married at 18....wouldn't change a thing even if I could go back in time. Our marriage grows stronger each year...
Hold up a sec.

You dictate your own VR as an IC?  I don't think that's what the original poster was asking about.  I think what the OP was talking about was a company that has VR and only pays 55% to 70% of regular line rate.  Most companies' platforms aren't technically enabled to allow the MT to redictate the VR.  In fact I've never heard of that before.

If you make money doing VR you're way, more power to ya.  But I don't think that's what the OP was talking about.

Hold out for more.....7 cpl is way too low...sm
I just had the same experience, was offered that amount by one company. I held out and got something part time with a good company at 9 cpl on weekdays and 10 cpl on weekends.
Hold on........think about this. sm
First, you need to make up a pay rate to compensate you for your hard work. Re-negotiate your contract if you have one. If you do not have one, I suggest getting one.

You need to set your pay date/pay period in writing and the ramifications to the client if pay is late. Either charge 15% as a late fee, etc.

Next, you can either charge piecemeal for STAT work, faxes, etc or you can include everything in one line rate. That is up to you.

After everything is in writing, have the client/doctor/office manage, whoever it may be, meet with you and go over all of the details. If they agree, than continue on doing the acocunt. If they do not agree, and it is a well-paying account, when you get paid, try to work a few things out. If all fails, then move on.

But, don't just get frustrated and let the account go. The office just may not be aware of all the extra things you are doing and may think it is included in your line rate.

You need to either spell it out to them in writing or just raise your line rate to include everything.

Believe me, in my younger years, I was where you are now. On looking back, I would have done some things differently. Now, I can say I know things from experience that you can not learn in a textbook or college classroom.

Good luck to you.
I'd put it on hold it too. You are being
very smart right now.  Hang tight.  If it goes well-WONDERFUL.  If it turns bad, you won't have to kick yourself in the a$$ because of buying a new house.
okay hold on I think we are...
talking about two different certifications!

I mean certification as in going to school. I mean we should have to have a CERTIFICATE from a school saying that we took the courses and have passed. To heck with AAMT, I've heard plenty about them promoting overseas transcription!

I just mean that there needs to be a standard for MTs. That way it isn't so easy to get into the profession. Besides outsourcing overseas, our next biggest problem is that there are people who are getting MT positions just by the luck of passing a test or are taking jobs at 4-5 cpl which is why someone like me who has spent a year going to an actual college, actually going to campus each night, now has to start off at 6 cpl. That type of pay is ridiculous for a professional. I can make more working at Burger King.

That's why I was saying that for those that are already proven MTs who have experience there should be some type of quick certification for them. Maybe a test, or three verifiable references that they have been MTs for such a time, or something. I don't know.

But that is what I meant by certification. CMT/RMT has just become a way for AAMT to make money off of us. There needs to be a mandatory, BY LAW requirement to be an MT. Just like a doctor absolutely has to go to and graduate from med school or a police officer has to graduate from the police academy, etc.
i would hold
off until about 3 (her time). then you could call her or if you have her email address just send her an email and just say you were wondering if they had made a decision yet. I would not worry about the ad being gone.
lots of water before eating
I haven't tried this myself, but I recently read an article about two very overweight men who lost tons of weight (not quickly, but gradually).  Both exercised every day, starting off with very little and gradually working it up, and one of them said he also drank something like a liter of water before each meal, which filled up his stomach so he got full fast and it really helped him cut back on how much he was eating.  I thought it sounded logical.
I really wish I could make myself drink more water..
but as a hazard of being a southern girl, I drink tea all day like it's going out of style
Freezing water in bottles
It's great that you drink ice water, but I read that freezing water in plastic bottles leaches chemicals from the plastic into your water (potential cancer cause). Better to use those new ice cube trays that make finger-shaped ice cubes!

What kind of water damage is what I would like to know sm..
Was it leaking from basement walls into basement or did someone leave water running and cause a flood, or was it sewer backup, or what is a natural flood?  Any kind of water damage really stinks!!  We had the unfortunate situation happen to us years ago when their was flooding all around us, but we did fine, that is, until the sewer system backed up into our basement about 4 feet high!  This was so gross, I don't think I'll ever get over it, however, we had it professionally cleaned and disinfected and threw EVERYTHING out, so hopefully that solved any health issues, so we are told.  Anyway, we invested $600 into a backup valve so that it will never happen again.  I have wanted to move ever since just because it was so gross and I can't get the image out of my head, but 4 years later, we are still here, kids and all.  So, the moral of the story I am trying to get at is this....they were supposed to be upfront and honest about the water damage problem and they were not, which leads me to believe that they have something to hide.  Therefore, you should potentially be able to get any money back because of this if you can prove that it was withheld information on the contract.  If you just love the house that much, go ahead with the inspection and find out what kind of water damage it was.  If it checks out with inspector, I would strongly suggest you have it professionally cleaned/disinfected to be safe, and expect it to maybe happen again and consider that thoroughly.  Personally, if we ever go to sell this house, I will be up front about it because even though we seemed to have fixed the problem, it is very possible it can happen again.  Hope this all makes sense.  Good luck.
oh, that just made my eyes water!!! (sm)
I can't imagine with all of the toys that are available that someone would need to turn to fruits and veggies for thrills. OMG, you know, potatoes are the worst smelling ick when they start rotting. I wonder if the poor doc who removed it puked. and it was sprouting??? blech!

C-phone. Not a large amount, but now none of the buttons work. Dial tone sounded shrill when I picked up the handset, but that has stopped now and the sound is normal. Anyone out there expeienced this? The one time I put a glass of water near it, and I bumped it with my elbow.
May want to hold off on cashing it

One of the attorneys handling the lawsuit or an associate of, suggested I hold off on cashing the check that came to me from MQ.  This is the one that came with a letter saying basically the reason they robbed us of so much money over time was a system error.  Yeah, right.  The  attorneys want to check into the true purpose of the checks.  So listen to your gut on this one   If this has already been said on the boards, sorry, I haven't read them lately.

Capitalization will not hold!

I need to type  VENTILATION PERFUSION SCAN as a heading.  But when the capital letter lock key is on and I type in vps to bring up the three words in all caps, my IT changes it to small case.

Does anyone out there know how to make all caps remain all caps?  I have auto capitalization check marked already.

Thanks soooo much if you can answer this!
