From what I have read it works something like this....

if the word is cardiopulmonary you take the first four letters...

card, then, add the last letter, y....so your abbreviation is cardy for cardiopulmonary. Anyone else? I have a website that I found and can send it to you, but i haven't had a lot of time to really research it.
