A heart beat can be either "regularly irregular" or "irregularly irregular." You can have a regular rhythm to a tachycardia -- or you can have an irregular rhythm with skipped beats.

I don't do a lot of cardiac, so can't give a really good explanation, you might want to do a Google search for "regularly irregular heart rate" to find articles that explain better.
