cost effective approach???

Okay, I am ready to start out with my own "company". I don't want the inconvenience of tapes yet the equipment to setup my own dial-up service is prohibitively expensive.  Does anyone provide cost effective services where I can offer a 800 dial up service?  OR, any rental options? Is anyone using this kind of service?  What does it cost? Thanks.

I can't help with cost effective comparisons, but
C phone is basically a glorified telephone. It sends additional signals besides just your normal phone beeps. For example if the dictation system has a certain tone it requires for "next job" you can program your c-phone to match that, so that when you press the button, it gives you the next report. Your programming information you find with your phone, the system information you get from your work or client.

There are several brands of C-phones out there of varying affordability.

Hope that helps and apologies in advance if it's not what you're looking for. Good luck!
quality apparently isn't cost-effective,
so it's time for us all to be very afraid - not only for our jobs, but for the accuracy of our personal medical records and those of the people we love.

I thought I had a career for life, but I was so wrong.

I needed way too much SJW to take the edge off. Wasn't cost effective for me. nm

I like your approach sm

I think your service adds the "personal touch" which definitely makes you different from other services.   You shouldn't want to be the same as everyone else.

I have studied marketing for years and have learned that the personal touch is often more effective to not only getting an account but keeping an account.

You're proof that it works!

not 100% effective for me and I went

Your brother took the right approach...sm
too many docs write a prescription without testing to make sure that a person has the diagnosis to support it. A good doctor will do the testing like you indicated to make sure a patient truly is ADD or ADHD prior to handing out medicine.

Question to the original poster: Are you under extra stress lately? If so, that's probably what is causing you to be scatter brained and learning how to handle stress will be more effective long-term than taking medications.

Good luck to you!
Let me tell you how I approach the visit
If going to a new physician, I have my history and physical and all other information typed out for them. If a return visit, I type out a small list noting the reason for the visit. Mine are short and sweet, first of all because if not written down, hard for me to remember and just makes it easier for perhaps a person who is on their treadmill trying to see all the patients they can and me as I don’t want to spend a lot of time there either. I heard somewhere that after about the first 4 or 5 minutes you are tuned out anyway. Why not simplify for the visit??
While I like this approach, the fact that you
motherly.  I think sometimes MTs feel like it's their parents correcting them.  Would you agree?  Also, I think a lot of us are home MTs nurturing our children, and cannot separate when we are speaking to an adult.  I would prefer no baby talk, but then again this is my interpretation.  You sound very nice, and keep up the positive attitude; however, we're not children being scolded.  We are adults that need guidance once in a while and as you put it a second set of ears.

Any ideas about how to approach this...

In these tough economic times, any ideas on how to bring up the subject of a salary increase to management without it turning on me in some way?  Is it even worth asking in our industry?  Working for major MTSO for a few years, still making same salary since the beginning, below 10 c/l.  Any little bit would help. Love my job but getting desperate.

That is how I approach my position as QA as well...
not my problem to find missing commas, et cetera...it is my job to listen to the blank, plain and simple...
That's one of the most effective things any MT (sm)
can do currently, and individually. Set a higher personal minimum than the shameful "national average", and stick to it. Every drop in the bucket counts. If US MTs (AND editors, by the way!)demand a fair wage, it won't matter how much work they think they can send offshore, if they can't get any quality workers to clean it up for them. Editors, you are totally being GYPPED! You not only have to know MT inside and out, but you have to sit there and stare at someone else's work, while listening to the doctors drone on and on. You're considered the last line of defense before the finished work goes off to the doc for a signature. You should be making MORE every year, not LESS! You, too, are putting yourselves *on sale* if you accept the paltry pay the nationals offer you.
I wondered if it would be effective
To train a voice recognition to your voice, listen to the dictation and just restate it into your VR. Seems if the software learns you well, there'd be very little keyboarding needed. No more carpal tunnel, and typing speed would be irrelevant.

Anyone use this method?
Wouldn't it be more effective....
if you did not mention the MT business.  I think the larger scale of things is more effective - 30 MILLION jobs, AT LEAST, and counting.  As I mentioned, that is the equivalent of the total population in 3 U.S. states!!  Talk about this hurting Uncle Sam's income.  I did not want to sound like a small group of typists who make no difference in the grand scheme of things.  Share your letter with us, will you?
Ever approach client of national you used to...
work for to offer your IC services for their account...or is that asking for some kind of a lawsuit and headache that you don't want?
Approach homeschooling with knowledge. sm
I have family in California that homeschool their children, and it is wonderful. The mother has an education, sets up great courses, and the support network there is absolutely fantastic. Sports, music, field trips, clubs, they are all available. They couldn't get a better education anywhere, and the socialization is absolutely great.

However, I had to homeschool my son last year for health reasons, and there can be real problems. He is an only child and was left out of all the school social activities. Unfortunately, there is no homeschooling network in my area, the nearest one is 150 miles away, so there were no field trips, sports activities, etc. We live in a small town, and not much is available outside school. It took him 2-3 months to get back into the social swing in high school. Fortunately he is very well adjusted, and turned out fine. Be sure the pieces are in place before you homeschool. Otherwise, you will be the only support your child has, and it can be almost a full-time job, especially if you have to start your own organization. I highly recommend homeschooling if you are in an area to do so. It can be a great experience and children can learn so much faster than in the public school. Good luck.
How about this.......wait until the time comes and approach your sup then..
Why cause "drama" when there is none..
I like your approach, straightforward and observant (NM)
Valid question, I agree.
We don't have to approach hospitals we work for;
there are plenty of others out there, and we didn't sign any contracts not to contact them.

We wouldn't need to be talking about specific MTSO's in general, either, but the industry as a whole. And more importantly, about AHDI and all its underhanded little shennanigans.
Oops! .. Fever few probably not effective for
headaches related to tension/muscle strain.
As we all know, the only effective way to lose weight
is diet and exercise. I have tried MediFast, SlimFast, phentermine, all of them. In the end, the only that really worked and help maintain my figure is eating right and exercise, exercise and more exercise.

I always wanted the fast road to a "skinny" body, but guess way, the weight crept back on faster than I lost it. So, I decided to just eat right, limit fatty foods and carbs, and exercise. I joined a gym and go 3x a week. It really does stimulate you.

Good luck to you, but really none of those plans work unless you change your lifestyle.

Jay Vance tried that approach and it died. You have to charge
reasonable membership dues for people to see the seriousness of the action.  Jay Vance charged something like a dollar or something like that and no one took him seriously.  Of course, that was the old days, now he's an AAMT suckup.
The fine-toothed comb approach!
Being right there in the same room is wonderful. How wonderful you were able to be of assistance to a relative too! I will keep everyone posted. I would like some other contractors to post in about what they think should be paid out of 8 cents/line for an OJT. Looking forward to more input!
I use Koss headphones. They are huge, but effective.

Having waitress' say "you guys" every time they approach each and every table.
I still want to know how they really want me to answer when then ask "Are you guys doing okay?" or "How are you guys making out?"  ????  Well my relationship with food is personal I guess!
Thank you for this info!! Texas has passed law to be effective sept. 1, 2006!!!! nm

Your insurance benefits will be effective through the period of time you have paid them which...sm

could be the end of the week or the end of the month or the day that the company calls the insurance company to cancel them. You cannot depend on thinking if you quit in the middle of the month you will be covered through the end of the month. You have to find out exactly from your company. Also for COBRA benefits you are eligible for up to 18 months or perhaps longer in special circumstances but yes you have to pay the premium all by yourself, the company doesn't chip in at all. The plus side is you are still in a group plan. You cannot get individual insurance unless you have NOTHING at all wrong with you, no high blood pressure, no depression, nothing. It is very important to not have a lapse in coverage greater than 60 days. If you do, you will lose coverage for any preexisting conditions when you go to your next GROUP insurance (this is the other part of HIPAA - portability). If for example you are covered for high blood pressure and you don't choose COBRA and your insurance lapses for more than 60 days, when you get on the next group plan, they will not cover your high blood pressure M.D. visits or medications for up to 1 year.

You can get relatively cheep individual coverage if you choose a high deductible, to carry you through. That is, if you can get it. Good luck.

Ginger ale. Ginger. It's proven effective for upset stomach.
You can buy a tummy tea or ginger/peppermint tea at the organic store. You can use powdered ginger if you have some in your cupboard. I just sprinkle a tiny bit on my finger and put it on my tongue. Even Mythbusters proved ginger was effective against motion sickness.

Why is Andrews so much higher than Career Step?  Do you think it's worth it in the end?

cost?
You will not be disappointed with Career Step. It is affordable, thorough and helpful.
TAT cost

A few years back, we got a mass email out of my office about just how much the out of TAT issue had cost over a particular week...somewhere in the ballpark of over 30 grand for just the top 3 major accounts.

Yes, we've been told that the company has to pay hefty fines to the accounts for not being within TAT.  Not sure how it is today, but I can't assume much has changed.

CMT cost?
how much does it cost to take the test to be CMT?
It DOES cost a lot more to be IC - SM
On top of the self-employment tax, etc., you don't get the benefit of your company paying 1/2 of your social security so that is where most of your money at tax time goes to. If you are an employee, they match what you pay into social security so it's not as much. I went through the same thing and decided it was not worth my time to work any extra as an IC. I saw the difference in the taxes I paid. Good luck to you.
You can, but it's going to cost you. sm

Several references on Google that will cost you between $40 and $80 for a search, but it would have to be worth what you're looking for before coming up with that kind of money and  I really thing that these sites will not give you adequate information.

Check with your post office.  They may not be able to give you information, but if you or someone you know is getting unwanted mail from a P.O. box address, they can stop it for you.

Don't know if you ever got an answer for that. I purchased a model 0421 a couple month ago. While this is an older model, it works just as well as long as you get an honest seller. They are expensive and you tend to go out on a limb when trusting that they one you are buying actually works. I paid $145 for mine. Total w/S&H was 170, which was an excellent deal. Either deal through ebay or this site. You can find them in the 150-175 range. Read instructions on ebay closely some say not tested. I actually emailed a seller and gave him him a number of how to test the machines and he was tickled to death. He had no clue what the machine was for. I would say buy a used one before spending the money on a new one. There are a lot of these floating around for sale that have just been collecting dust because people are downloading off the internet. Nothing wrong with the machine, these people just have no use for the machines right now.
You say it does not cost you anything? How about your
time? That is worth something, isn't it? Time is money in my book that I could be working instead.
It doesn't cost $800 either
Can't imagine a chair more comfortable that it.. i'm sure the Aeron is built much better, though. I noticed it does have a 12-year guarantee.
Sorry! Forgot the cost! They can run anywhere
from $10 to $50 range - definitely under $20 last I saw, which was only a few months ago.
the problem with that is the cost
Before deciding to get a BA in psych, I looked at many different quick fix schools.  I was interested in cooking, the cheapest school is 15,000 up front, nine month course.  Was also interested in aesthetics, 6000 bucks!  If they would offer pay as you go for these schools so you could pay cash, that would be more feasible.  Collins college, DeVry, all in the thousands.  I pay about 500+ per semester...sure it will take me years BUT I think a BA degree opens many doors.  The person who says it doesn't is crazy!
Cost of going digital

I am trying to decide if it's worth it to get a local office to go digital.  They don't even have a website, so technology is not their thing.  I assume that because of this I would still have to print/drop off reports?  Is that right?  This is a very small office, so I don't want to spend a lot of money to try to do this.  When I try to do an internet search, there is way too much information that is way too complicated.  I just want to know what I would need for the most basic setup.  Anything advice/help you can offer would be helpful.  Thanks!  LL

we went last May, cost us a fortune!

Our expenses were for 2 adults....

We actually did one of those timeshare tours so we could get 3 nights free at our hotel. So we paid for 4 nights = $400, there was supposed to be a shuttle going to/from the parks but that didnt work out so we had to rent a car (dont remember how much that was), Disney tickets for a 4-day park hopper pass was nearly $500, Universal 2-day tickets were about $200, cab from the airport was about $80, food was very expensive - about $100 day.

We flew JetBlue & i thought they were wonderful & reasonably priced. I want to say our flight was a total of about $400-500.

All-in-all, I'd say about $2500 for the whole trip including gift shopping & food.

total cost
Total cost of $60 for two phone lines, which includes taxes, etc. It also includes call waiting and voice mail. But my C-phone line has nothing on it, no call waiting, etc. by my choice. First month on my residential phone is free because they are just starting up in my area.
Had you complained that you did not okay all this, they probably would have taken off the cost

I would do the printing and eat the ink cost - sm
write it off of course. If you can, use a separate ink cartridge just for their stuff and keep track of how fast you go through the ink. If it is excessive, then brink it up possibly and maybe you could bill them a printing charge every time you have to buy a new ink cartridge. But I'd probably just eat it regardless, it is not going to hurt your bottom line much and it helps them out (they save time obviously); the little extras help and you could get more work out of it, who knows.
Is the cost less if you are in India. Why do I think it probably is?

Pay their own operating cost sm
This is not for the MT to pay for heaven sakes, this is the MTSO operating expenses, (the cost to do business, it is THEIR CLIENT) It is all a bunch of bull and the MTs are thinking, well--ll okay-yyyy I guess.
Cost and other things
It is a little costly, but don't forget, you are buying food anyhow. It might be a little more, but you won't be buying your Twinkies, etc. ;-)

I did NS after my first baby about 100 years ago and did lose the weight and managed to keep it off until I went to work at home. I don't know how the program has changed since then.

After gaining a whole bunch when I went home to work, I tried WW and lost nearly 80 pounds and pretty much maintained it, up and down 10.

I like WW because they painlessly teach you how to eat right. It's a reprogramming of sorts and it really works.

Whatever you choose, good luck!!
