Not OP, but I get paid for headers and footers.

Want to get paid for headers, footers and spaces?

Just in a silly mood....

I would say that if you are typing headers and footers for free, i.e. not getting paid for them,
:[
headers and footers
I just read in the MPCount info that it does not count headers and footers. Is that a bad sign?
And most often headers, footers, & copies are not

most companies don't pay for headers, footers, cc. (nm)

headers, footers, word count
I am an newbie IC and just started a new Dr. when I realized that MS word does not count headers and footers with word count.  Any way you can include headers/footers in the word count or do you have to count it all separately and then add them together?
11-1/2 cpl, 65 ccl, all spaces, headers, footers, etc. NE part of country. nm

Headers and Footers can carry on to the rest of the pages.
,
Not included. Demos and ccs are headers/footers. Not counted. nm

Oh absolutely! I would get 9 or 10 lines of headers and footers per report on Cottage. sm
So, if you do the math, if I typed 25 reports that day, that makes a total of 250 LINES I no longer get paid for! I truly believe DQS is just a sneaky, smart way that MQ has come up with in order to squeeze line counts and money from under us. Think about it. It is!!! No doubt in my mind, ladies!!

I want to quit to freakin bad this DQS crap! I am making so much more LESS money on DQS it isn't even funny. We should really smarten up about this program.

Also, how about the way you have to look up cc's and addressess and then put it into that stupid ADT field and then you DON'T GET PAID FOR IT!! MAKES ME SICK!

Okay. Done ranting and raving for the day! Let me go look for another job right now.
:(
I stand corrected. Sorry, did not mean to say gross. Rather, 65 cpl with spaces, headers, footers.

I tried Slycount and it didnt count the text in headers and footers
I tried Slycount and it didn't count the text in headers and footers after the 1st page. Apparently its a problem with upgraded versions of MS word 2003 and there isn't a fix yet for this problem. If you don't use headers and footers than its a good program. I currently use Spellex AccuCount and its great :). I believe they have a free trial on there website. I Hope this helps :)
Maybe if it is gross lines, lots of headers and footers and normals......sm
Other than that, I really can't imagine it.
Is it customary to count headers/footers in this business when doing line counts? Thanks. nm

9 cpl, 65 characters per line, spaces, headers, footers included. employee status. nm

Offered a position paying 9 cents per 65 line without spaces with headers and footers.

Is this a good deal?

For QA consulting I'm paid per hour; QA instructing (college) paid salary, QA editing paid per li
I am an IC and work for two different MTSOs as well as instruct at a business college.
Rad Reports/headers, etc
As an IC, i have a great radiology account, and because my company did such a good job, turnaround, accuracy, etc. I was offered a neurophysiology account....something I had never done before.........However, having such a good medical terminology background, I was willing to give it a try (and they were desperate)...(ha ha),,,,Anyways, the reports are done in word,,,,and are not all that difficult as it turns out. The TIME CONSUMING part - was doing the headers - which we retrieve from the text files attached to the wav files,,,,,,,and each identifying piece of information has to be looked up and typed on a single line (15 lines total -before you get to the report),,,,,,,well I hired somone just to do the headers,,,,,,as it turned out.....I met with the company and proposed a 1.00/per header charge for these cases - which turned out to be an excellent idea. The girl that does the headers for me - is guaranteed x amount of money now,,,not just lines and I can sit right down and type the reports.....perhaps you could approach them with an idea like this?
no headers paid
Dictaphone does not pay headers..that is why the line count is lower than you think.  Dictaphone has the HARDEST header to fill in too!!!  Amazing that they do that!
The reports are usually short
I have done both acute care and Radiology. Radiology by report usually works out to more money in your pocket. Since I switched to radiology I never want to go back to acute care. My line rate stayed the same, but I make 50% more money!! I agree, Stedman's Radiology is wonderful. You can get it on CD and keep it open while you work...quicker to look things up.
10 reports/hour or 25 markers/hour
NM
Those short reports drive me nuts also (sm)

Ever get stuck with those 4-line reports with a bunch of demographics?  You end up making no money.

And then you find out you're the only one that's doing them.

Quit!  Do yourself a favor.

I would hire short-hour IC MTs - SM

for those days only, Thursday and Fridays I think you said, and if necessary, weekends only, too.  A question - are your MTs ICs or employees?  IMO and experience, with employees three strikes a year and you're out (3 strikes = unplanned absences).  Of course, there are kids and illnesses, but home-based MTs already have one plus over office-based MTs - they're home - and depending on the MTSO, their hours are flexible.   You have less control of the schedule of ICs, however. I'm flexible too, but for some reason some home-based MTs just don't get that I have a business run.

In short, hire your back up/contigency MTs for the days you usually get behind; better yet, have them work Wednesday night/Thursday to keep you caught up.  That way, if you have to let anyone go, you already have MTs trained on the accounts.

I prefer short reports. With the exception of a couple of
the most wonderful dictators (who really should give lessons on dictating) I find that long reports make me sleepy and looking for any excuse to get up.  I type in batches and don't have to save each report individually so having a bunch of reports doesn't add a lot of time.  I have found too that most of the short reports (I do Ops/procedures) are things that I have lots of normals/macros for so it goes really fast.
At least 1 short break every hour and stay away from IM

If you are paid by the hour--
I wouldn't mind jumping from one account to the other either if I were being paid BY THE HOUR-- but when you are on production only and you have to sit and read a zillion different client profiles, do this for this doc, but don't do that for that doc, etc., and are only allowed to work in an 8 hour time frame, it does not make for great production. If they want us to do that many accounts, we should be paid hourly, not by production alone.
I get paid by the hour, THANK GOD!
I had no idea it was 3 cpl or in the proximity out there.  That's just awful.  They want professional, perfect reports by transcriptionists who make no mistakes and type like the wind.  Yet they don't pay for that.  It's sick.  Thanks for opening my eyes.
getting paid by the hour
I have not been paid by the hour in 6 years since I worked in a hospital.  What is the going rate?  I will be doing clinic notes for a small family practice office in Tennessee, probably about 2 hours a day after the backlog is caught up.  They are going to see if they can offer me health insurance which they will pay for but I have to wait to know for sure until they talk to their insurance agent.  I was just curious what others were charging.  Thanks.
Because I am not paid by the hour;
I am paid by the line. And the faster I go, the more I get per hour. Others working at the same line rate may make more or less per hour depending on their speed.
I get paid by the hour
I'm working at a local nephrology clinic, unfortunately not for very long because of EMR, but that's another story. I'm am employee and work from home, but get paid by the hour. I liked that set up because when there's little or no work I still get paid for my full 7-1/2 hours a day.
add to that ASR, getting paid 1/2 for basically re-typing reports! nm
xx
I agree with you. I would never want to be paid by the hour.
I would be looking at a major paycut I believe. I average $28-$30/hr now and am paid by the line.
Are there any MTs left that get paid by the hour?
Just wondering.  As an IC, I was trying to figure what I made per hour after having to pay my share and employer's share of SS.  If there is anyone out there that still gets paid per hour, I would like to know what area you are from and how much.  Thanks.
Do you get paid by the hour or production?
`
It would be very rare to be paid by the hour
while working at home. Too many variables and too many people would take advantage
We get paid $1.10 for radiology reports and my supervisor transcribes also sm
she pick all the easy doctors. How I know this is because if she doesn't finish them all she says "I have work that I couldn't finish I need someone to finish up." They are all the same doc no more than 3 lines or normals.
VR reports get paid VR rate whether I straight type or not.
I have just gotten to the point where on certain docs I know their VR sucks, so I straight type because it ends up being faster. It sucks, but that is the way the business is now a days, so I don't have much of a choice. I need a job, and I like where I am at, so don't like to speak up too much because the are really pushing the VR.
in 1994 I typed IME reports and was paid $5.00 per page, wish I had that now!
nm
WhenI was paid by the hour, I kept them LONG ......sm
but now that I am paid by the line, they are short!   Bucks before beauty, I guess.
Does anyone know if Indian MTs are paid by the line or by the hour? sm
That's something I have been curious about.  I know the MTSOs charge by the line, but was wondering how they pay the MTs.  I recall various articles about all the benefits they had, free medical, etc., even food.
reAre there any MTs left that get paid by the hour?
Mid-South (Tennessee) hospital employee, $23.00
Are you paid by the line, word, hour?

My former job paid by the hour. Higher producers with

how does one measure lines. i get paid by the hour so i have no need to do that.
just wondering
You would need to go back in-house to be paid by the hour.

If you're paid by the hour, and not by the line, YES.
.
If you are paid by the line and make over $25 an hour, then I hate to say it

but I am wondering if you are doing full QA.  By the line is NOT fair pay for QA.  I know I mentor new MTs on a very difficult account and there is no way you could earn a decent wage on any amount of line pay, no way!

Don't go telling someone they could do better if they are paid by the line.  Quality specialists MUST have ethics in their work.  You can do a decent amount of reports a day and give feedback and mentoring, but you certainly would not be earning $25 an hour on line pay that I have seen....just no way!  The most I have seen QA paid is 7 cents a line and still those women do not average that amount.

Now, I don't know what you do or if you listen 100%, but most QA positions I have had have had megablanks, 100% listen as well as 100% feedback and you just cannot produce that much doing your job in a proper manner.

I usually average $25/hour paid by line so most places...
