has anyone ever used open office to download word so a test can be taken?  I rent a computer from my company and I know I probably should not do this.  My question is would they know if this is being done?  Thank you.

Company requested not downloading Vista as it will not work with our program.
.
PRD is a DOS program. I don't think it work with Word, a Window's program.

Yes, if you want a free program...
I use FTP Surfer. Go to www.ftpsurfer.com. Once you get that downloaded, I can help you set up your profile, etc. It is actually really easy. Don't feel embarassed!! Glad to help.
Free FTP transfer program. sm
FTP commander 8.0 is free.

Is gearplayer a free program?

I have never used gear player before and was told that I would need to use the gearplayer software and a comparable footpedal to type files.  I am used to express scribe which is free and using my infinity foot pedal. Is gear player a free program like scribe or am I going to have to pay for it?

Get Hijack, it is a free program
n,
There is a free program called Belarc you
can download.  It will tell you processor speed, RAM, hard drive, sound card - every little thing about your computer.  I used it with Win98 and WinXP.  Google Belarc for website.
I agree, very excellent free program. sm
You could also run your *disc Cleanup* program to delete files, etc. Also go to My Computer, Internet Options, and Delete. Delete files, cookies, and internet history. That all helps! good luck.
Can use a free program called Audacity.
I have only heard about this and have not found the need to do it myself yet, but heard it works great.

Here is a website someone passed to me:

http://www.andybrain.com/archive/convert-cassette-to-cd-digital.htm

If you Google "tapes to digital," there are a lot of sites that give directions.

Good luck.

Anyone ever used this Word program?
Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003. Does this have MS Word 2003?
Word count program
I have an older model puter that is slowly going up and have word 97 count program on it.  I am looking for something that is compatible with that - that also does all headers and footers - not just the header and footer on the first page that I can put on my new puter.  I have checked in to SPellex and that is really slow counting.  I also checked in to Abacus, which was fast and pretty accurate; it actually gave me a little more on a few of my reports as a trial run.  ANyone have any ideas on this.  Thanks for any help.
Depends on what word program you are using
If you are using microsoft word 2003 or even 2000, I believe, then you only put in 1 space as there is a built in space in word that already shows up and if you try to put in a second space it will go in one space when you go down to the next line. Hopes this helps.
Does your word processing program
have "search and replace" feature? That should do what you want.
Yes, it's a word expander--can be used with any program (not just DQS)

word expander program sm

Pros and cons of word Expander programs that work with Chartscript?  PC ShortHand as opposed to Instant Text?  Which is better?  I have downloaded PC shorthand for a 30 day trial, but to me its a little slow.  Any ideas?  Thanks

You need Microsoft's Word. It is a program that requires
installation. The account sounds good at 13/cent a line. Better invest in Word (costs a bit) unless you have a kind friend who will share theirs with you.
PRD is a dos-based program, will not work in Word.
It is a great program, wish it would, but you might have to look at something like Shorthand. Same with Stedman's. It is a Windows installation, not a copy/paste like the old dos programs (WP, etc.)
smartype attaches to your Word program - SM
so you cannot use it unless you open Word as well as the account's platform, and type there (then copy/pasting the reports into the facillity's system).

Shorthand works independently so works with pretty much all systems.

I've never had one that did not expand a shorcut with the space bar.
dictaphone word client program
I went into google, typed 'dictaphone word client', saw your request there and a few others re this - you might find your answer using Google search. Good luck. Jean
It's a stand alone program and doesn't pull up within Word itself. nm

Pros & Cons of ESP word expansion program?
Does this work pretty well? (I have Word 2002)  I'd like not to have to buy any software.  Any opinions on ESP?  Any other Word-compatible programs that work well, also?
That would depend on the employer's set up. Word can be interfaced with another program, sm
in that, Word would be running remotely, but in conjunction with another program. If this is the case, the documents would be saved on the employer's server and not on any drive on your pc as a Word document. If you using Word exclusively, when saving a document it would be stored on your computer's hd and/or a cd.
Get a decent word expansion program like PRD or Shorthand sm
autocorrect is very limited.  If you want to make money, your really need a good expander.
C-phone + Word versus software program
What I'm trying to say is that it seems more time consuming to use a C-Phone and Word rather than a software program because everything is just a click away with a program, whereas with a C-phone and Word you have to dial in, do paperwork, send work through e-mail, create templates, etc, etc.  Seems much more efficient to use a program thereby saving time and making more $$$.  (You can probably tell I'm still fairly to this). TIA
Can't do it. Word is kind of a clumsy program, there's a lot that is self-evident that it sho
1. Take care of that capitalization issue you were talking about.
2. Capitalize after a colon : 99% of the time, you want a capital.
3. Capitalize reliably after a period. If doing numbers, like 3.7 for a potassium, or 6.8 for a white count, it won't cap after the period (White count 2.8. hemoglobin was... the H in hemoglobin won't auto cap). Come on, Microsoft. Let us decide if we want it or not. Or what to apply it to (tables).
4. About 7 other things that it could do better, but they never work on it. Not as sexy as photos, TVs, gaming. I don't think Microsoft will ever look at Word from the production typist point of view.

Just my input. In the new versions, it won't even capitalize in a numbered list, if you don't hit the shift key. Why are we hitting the shift key 30 years after computers came out? SHouldn't they be doing the work???
What Word program works best with Vista? Has to be less than 2007. nm

Word 2003 speech recognition program
Has anyone heard of this or used it?  I have Word 2003 and it has a built in speech recogition program that I did not know existed.  From what I can see, I just have to download the software, purchase a microphone headset, and train the thing.  Has anyone used this, is it proficient, and has it increased your transcription production.  Also, I transcribe in ChartScript/NetLinc which is a Word-based program.  For those who have used the speech recognition through Word would this work for me?
No word expander that is worth its salt is FREE...sm
Wish that was so! There are several that have DEMO versions though, including FlashType offered through this website.
Will the Stedman's work with that version of Word? You buy the basic program and then

Are there any free medical spell checkers for Word that can be downloaded?..

If working in Word, autotext/correct can be used for free, but (smsg)
if you need a separate expander, then I recommend Shorthand.  I think their cost is reasonable, and it is user friendly.  I've used it for years, and it has worked in numerous different platforms, or if not directly compatible, I could convert my list either way fairly easily.  It, too, has a free demo period for 30 days.  Aside from Word's own autotext/correct function which is limited in its compatibility to a degree, you aren't going to find a good free one.
I believe Olympus is a dictation system, not a program such as Word or Meditech - sounds to me like

i have word 2000 free standing as well with no problems. email support, they will help you shortly.
you shouldn't struggle with having problems. support is there to help us and they are good at their job. as with any new acct, there are always gonna be some kinks. i had some to work out as well with my end of the system. it doesn't sound like something you can fix; probably something with how the two tie in together. did you log out and back in and see if that helped?
You're not going to find a word expander for free. You're going to have to pay

Do you still have the CD's for downloading - sm
or backup of your old Windows system? If so, I'm fairly certain you could download that onto a new computer in addition to Vista, and run that instead 'til things clear up with the Vista problem at some MTSO's.

Either that, or hang onto your old PC to use for work only, and in the meantime you can buy the new PC and get used to Vistas and its quirks & differences, etc. without worrying about it messing up your work.
Help- What do I need for downloading?
I just had a Dr. ask me if I was able to download dictation.  What does that mean, like from an email or something?  I am new so what do I need to get?  I downloaded express Scribe, but I don't even know how it works!  I am ordering a foot pedal and headphones right now.
Downloading all folders...sm
The Olympus software that comes with the recorders always downloads every folder that has files in it, and you just need to make sure whatever file transfer method you use checks in all of the folders for new files.

Suggestions for PC, just used for downloading,

Try downloading this player
http://www.olympus-europa.com/consumer/2590_4694.htm

It should open the file and then maybe you can change the format of the file back to a wav file.
You might try downloading ExpressScribe.
I think it has a few test files when you first down load it that you could practice on.
Downloading dictations (sm)

If you key in alt-ctrl-Z while the first one is loading, it will prevent the other two from downloading from the queue.  When you are ready to submit and do another file, you will need to key in that sequence again to allow the next one to come in.

downloading terror
Dawn you must have been the fly on the wall at my place.  It's been monstrous downloading unfamiliar programs and some of those doctors are somebody's idea of a terrible joke - the kind you have to have a report of theirs in front of you so you can learn what they are saying.  I have never tested online til now..  As for now, I am taking a day or 2 off of applying after I put stupid wrong info on an app, my own fault for being "frantic".  Time to walk away for a day or so.  I got told by one company they would call me when they have work, I felt it was a kind brush-off, and I cried myself to sleep.
Abacus is not free. It is $20 but worth it. You can download a trial version free which does not h
I have used this for years and have compared to Sylvan, Word, and MP Count, etc. When you have it set to count every character, bold, shift, tab, etc. It is great and always higher than the others. Now if you are wanting gross lines like in Word then no it won't be as high because Word counts blanks lines and Abacus counts a line only if there is a character on it. There is also two places to check for it to count the Headers/Footers. If you have the FREE version then it must be the trial or a very old version so you don't have all the features and functions.
Free? As in, free trial? Otherwise, I don't think you'll find a spellcheck software that's
