Try ctrl+shift+left arrow to highlight the last word
then Alt + J to open AutoCorrect, type your Replace word, and tab to OK and hit the Enter key.

Make sure you don't have any extra spaces when you highlight.

Shift end will highlight the line, but you need F8, then hit period key to highlight full sentence,
You can use F8 and hit any letter or punctuation mark you want to go to. Hit the escape key to turn off F8.

Shift and arrow keys only highlight single characters.

Think of them as right and left arrows.

Think of them as arrows on a number line.

If the arrow is pointing right, it's greater than.  If the arrow is pointing left, it's less than.  Think L (left) for Less than.

In Word you can use shift - end to highlight to

If MS Word, you don't need to highlight first. Shift+F3 cycles through
change case even if you've already hit the spacebar.
One *does* need to use the Shift key to highlight words as Shelly asked. sm
Ctrl and the right arrow key goes to the next word *without* highlighting. You might want to read Shelly's original post again.
Just hit Alt+Shift+left arrow on line 1 and it will go to the left margin. Otherwise,
you need to use a numbered list style to do it every time. Each version is different, but you may already have a numbered list style in yours that stays at the left margin. Just assign a keyboard shortcut to that style.
I don't use the mouse. I use Cntl+end key to highlight a sentence.Shift and the arrow key will do

Shift right arrow - highlight the entire sentence and delete! Not sure there is a
ctrl key to do entire sentence, but I will look and get back to you.

Well - no. Shift arrow down will highlight my entire line and then delete.
Don't know what you are talking about - I never use F8 in Word.

Hold down Ctrl and Shift and use right arrow to highlight one word at a time. sm
You can highlight noncontiguous words by holding down on Ctrl and selecting different words.

oops, i meant control shift L. nm

Your point was? You called me jealous and lazy, and suggested I work an 8 hour shift.
Now you're being "nice". I am NOT worried about others.  Why would I want to work an 8 hour shift and produce 1000 lines if I could be missing SOMETHING and increase my production?  How mean-spirited you are. I would LOVE to produce more and work less, so that I could spend more time with my loved ones. And to read on this forum the astonishing line counts most MTs are claiming to make regularly - well, I'm either doing some really, really wrong, which I would like to fix, or I'm not doing something that I need to be doing, which I would like to fix! Thus, my sincere question.  Truly I believe it is time to leave this board, though I used to LOVE it so much, cause you just can't get an honest thread running anymore about anything - even trivial threads turn ugly by 2 to 3 posts, let alone INFORMATIVE ones like how honestly asking my fellow MTs who are huge producers HOW they do it? As in straight typing or using normals and standards?  I try to hang on this board and stay "positive" despite the negatives, cause I really like it here and I really like the admin, etc, but I'm not a glutton for punishment.  I know a lot of the old regular MTs who actually carried on intelligent conversations have gone to the board where you have to pay $$$ to post.  Apparently, one can still have kind meaningful conversations over there - guess the $$ part weeds out the trolls?  Don't know, but its sure sad.  Please, don't misinterpret this as me thinking anyone would give a hoot if I left here - cause I know now there will be the normal "good - who gives a crap? good riddance" flames, but really, the MTs who are so trollish are just ruining it for themselves.  Thus is their lot in life, though.
highlight the first word you want, hold the Ctrl key down, and highlight the next, etc. nm

I meant to say the number pad is on the left on the Evoluent
It is a standard keyboard with the number pad on the left instead of the right.  www.evoluent.com I believe.  The Goldtouch is a split board so you have to get used to it.

Extend Text
I know this has been hashed over many times but please bear with me just one more time!

Question is, if you are a very speedy typist and you transcribe for many doctors, is this a useful tool? How does it compare to Autotext? I am on the verge but just need to have an idea of how it would benefit with multiple MDs or, if it would benefit with multiple MDs with their different styles.

I work with ExText by the way which is definitely not the fastest and so would like to increase production.

Really appreciate any feedback.
usually one "word" equals 5 characters, so it's still being paid by characters. nm

Safe mode sm

Have you tried to delete program under safe mode?  That is your best option right now.

Also, when you said you accessed task manager and you have 37 running, do you mean processes running?  Because if you will under task manager, you have "applications, processes, performance, users, etc."

Oops, meant to ask first, what operating system do you have?

Let me know.  I will be in and out of this site, so it may take me a bit to get back to you.

Going to safe mode now
Just found a site that walked me through how to try the safe mode route. Hope it works... I don't have my laptop backed up for work yet!
As for 37 task managers, that's what I meant, as if I had pushed ctrl/alt/dlt 37 times. Lots of other processes running, but 37 task managers open (that were not there before). I think the gremlins were having a party!
And I have Windows XP. Wish me luck and hopefully I'll talk to y'all tomorrow. Thanks for all your help.
Try it in safe mode...sm

Shut down the computer.  As soon as you turn it back on, begin pressing the F8 key repeatedly.  You should come to a black and white screen with an option of starting in safe mode.  Arrow down to this option and press 'Enter'.  The computer will then start in safe mode.  Try it from there.  Hope this helps.

LMAO - she's really going into insanity mode on this one!
Tell me, now Ms. Mensa.

My uncle is a mensa member and is chief of staff at a large hospital where he was an ER physician for years, moved up to being department head and then ultimately his current position.

You, the genius you are, are an MT.

You're full of it.
"Overtype mode" in Word...
What the heck do I keep hitting on my keyboard to throw Word into "overtype mode"?  I then have to go in and "uncheck" the overtype mode box.  Whatever I'm inadvertantly hitting, it happens quite a lot.  Guess I should slow down.  It's so annoying.  If I knew what it was, I could remap the keyboard to avoid this.  Any ideas?  TIA!!
Have you tried removing it in safe mode?
From a cold start, press F8 at 1-second increments until you get a DOS list of startup options. Once in safe mode, attempt to remove, then restart as you would normally and it should come up in normal mode. If you have xp, set a restore point first in case removing this program causes other programs not to work.
Thanks. I guess it is just goes to R.B. (I'm still in Exp. Scribe mode where you have to hand-

Make sure you don't have it in express or economy mode.
Is it faint all over consistently or is it uneven? If it's consistently faint, go to your Start Menu, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, right click on Dell Printer 720, Properties, General, Printing Preferences, and make sure Quality/Speed isn't set on Quick Print. If that doesn't fix it, post again and we'll try something else. You may have to put in a new cartridge.
If printer in typing mode, then I should not have any trouble
seeing the letters- the words on the page can be at 120, so big 1 line does not fit on the page; however when printing off, the words are so miniscule you can hardly read. That is the problem, can anyone help?
Does anyone edit in vertical or portrait mode?
Do you have any trouble with your mouse? I checked my graphics card and it is doable.
Safe mode didn't work. Aaaggghhh!!
Still can't get McAfee all the way off my computer (I guess because maybe it's damaged now and trying to protect what it has left). What if I just put another antivirus on here in addition? Under security, it says there is no antivirus detected on my computer, so in my (simple) mind, that means it should be okay, right? Even though when I tried to put the other antivirus on, it told me I needed to take McAfee off first. Under add/remove programs, when I try to remove McAfee, it simply freezes my computer and I have to "end task" manually.
Extext highlight
It sounds like you might have toggled off your select function.  Press your shift bar and then try to select with your mouse to see if that works.
You can also highlight the text you want
to change and hit Control K - same thing is something is already in all caps and you want to change it to either just an initial cap or to all lower case. It works like a toggle switch.
can't highlight text in ExText
Hi all. Today just started an acct that uses ExText/TransNet. I already have Word 2000 on my machine. (Their version of ExText says in 'about' that it is also 2000) When I get in a chart in ExText, I can't use my mouse anywhere on the document or even the vertical scroll bar to the right. I *can* use it on any of the menu items across the horizontal toolbar at the top of the document but CANNOT select bits of text to highlight and move around or copy/paste or whatever. Anyone else hear of this happening? I've seen some other posts here talking about versions of Word (2003?) being incompatible with ExText but I know someone else who is using ExText for the same account and who also already had pre-existing Word 2000 on their machine, with no problems. Is there a setting or something I need to toggle or untoggle or ......?? Any help would be very greatly appreciated, please email me. Thanks so much!

You can still highlight your word and press Alt-T-A to... sm
get to the Autocorrect dialog box in 2007. Your highlighted text is already in the With box. Just type your abbreviation and tab to the OK button and hit Enter. A lot of the old shortcuts still work even though the menus are no longer on the ribbon.

discrepancy (bold it) as well as underline it.  I also add a note at the bottom like this:

NOTE:  Age discrepancy. (Or medication discrepancy, etc.).

If needed, I am more specific.

Every account I transcribe likes this approach, and my QA people have actually adopted this technique, requiring their other MTs to do this.

I know not every account will find this acceptable, but it's been working well for me for years now.

If you right click the folder, it should highlight it and give you

before you type your text and hit it again when you're done. This works in any Word version.
Just open glo file in Word, highlight all, then change case and save back
to glo file. Use the Alt key trick to highlight just the column of words, then Shift + F3 to toggle through the change case commands. First save your glossary under a different name so you also keep the original.
You can highlight the entire list and use the convert text to table option in Word. You can highligh
You'll want to convert with 4 columns because you have a paragraph between each address. That paragraph will wind up in the 4th column. When you're done, you can highlight that column and delete it.

more characters
well, if there's not enough lines available, there's just not. However, most employers don't mind if you add "articles" such as "and" and "the" when the doctor may not exactly say it or you can make complete sentances out of incomplete ones. as long as your employer or doctor's preference is not verbatim, that's fine and most of them prefer it actually. you'll eventually "train" yourself to do it automoatically. most employers don't mind you adding a few "the patient" in there either as long as it's not excessive.  word Expanders are good too. i use shortkeys. also, if not already in place, maybe 4 characters for the year (on the date) would add some. may sound like little things, but it adds up! good luck!
Also get 2 more characters if use okay.
