Role models
There are a lot of them. I personally know many women whom I admire. But, if we're talking about celebrities, I would say Kathy Lee Gifford for forgiving her husband's infidelity and lying. Also for having the courage to leave a multimillion dollar a year job (Regis and Kathy Lee) and pursue her dreams - writing her own plays, trying a new music style.

I admire Olivia Newton John for surviving breast cancer, raising a child on her own, and just giving the world class and dignity.

I admire Vanessa Williams for surviving the mess after she was de-crowned as Miss America and coming back to have a great career.

I admire Nicole Kidman for handling her separation and divorce from Tom Cruise in a mature manner. No sniping and no name calling.

I admire Lauren Hutton for living her life adventurously and with real compassion and concern for other people. I also like that she refused to fix the gap in her front teeth.

There are a lot of great role models, both men and women.
does anyone have a child that models? sm
or in commercials, print ads, etc? My 6 YOS is just adorable (of course!) and he has a very bright, outgoing personality. I am told all the time that he should be in "pictures", but don't know how to go about getting started. I don't have money to invest in all the pictures and things.  I know this is probably a long shot, but any info would be greatly appreciated.
HP also have some models with a seperate numeric pad. nm

Lots of Olympus models.
Basically, you get what you pay for. The pricier models have more features and better sound quality. The biggest problem I have seen users have is they interface that Olympus created to download voice files from the recorder to the desktop. There's an extra "step" to some that require you to upload to an Audio Folder before moving to a desktop. Also, some programs will not playback .dss files (Olympus's proprietary voice file). Express Scribe (newest version 4.17) does work and is free.
I know it is not the role
of the hospital, but it makes sense to me that when new physicians sign on at a hospital or new practices are set up that there may be a list floating around somewhere of MTSOs. Thanks for the input though.
Question about role of a TL
I am new to the 'working at home' situation. I have only worked in a hospital setting until recently.  In the hospital there was no team leader. Can someone please explain to me what the role of a team leader is? What types of issues are they supposed to help with.  If I get stuck on a dictation, do I automatically leave a blank or do I contact my TL to see if she can help? Or do I just send it to QA?
you need to realize your role, hon
a career you can obtain education for through correspondence schools?? You must be joking if you think you should make more than that. Apply for a promotion if you want more $$$$.
You remember? I have one of those microwaves. Have one of Sears 1st models that DH bought for
:+
I was thinking along that line when there's no role model
Rich kids are raised by nannies, butlers, au pairs, tutors. Parents are hardly there to give them morals.  They learn from the streets and the streets are pretty skanky these days.
i'm glad they gave george that role last
night. him and izzy wanted to become doers and he sure did!  i'm curious to see what they do with his character now...i hated to see the bomb guy get blown up! he was cute. i used to watch him on mysterious ways a long time ago just because he was a cutie!
If you're going to place yourself in a caregiver role,

you need to take into consideration your support system.  You're going to need one.  I was my husband's caregiver until he had to go into skilled nursing, and it was by far more draining (physically, emotionally, spiritually) than I could have ever imagined.  I wish you the best; take care of yourself.

worst have been female, however, BEST have been female also.nm

Female..hands down !

I swear, every account I've ever worked had one problem dictator.. always female !  One REFUSED to use macros, even on normals.. and she would always make sure she made every report unique, so that we couldn't sneak away with using a macro for her.  Another one spoke a hundred miles a minute.  I remember my first day with her.  She said something several times in her reports and I went crazy trying to figure it out.... lumbar spine ??  supine ??  Turns out she was saying "skip a line" !!

That's why I use vg for the female part.

MALE MT or FEMALE MT?

Who is better in the Medical Transcription? Men or women medical transcriptionists. I believe it has been a debate throughout decades who is better in this industry. Regardless of Race and regardless of Age. Let the battle begin... (hey its just for fun)

State your side: Age sex Location. No names Pls. and comments. Maybe Footonmyneck, SUN, Cheeseburger, Proud to be Indian, and the entire MT Stars gang can start it up. Its better than talking about outsourcing and MQ for a change.

37-year-old female been an MT since I was 19. sm
When the hospital looked at my college courses they thought I would be a great fit for a part-time transcription job.

Had no clue what an MT was back then but they started me at $7.61 an hour which was a lot more than what all my friends were making back then.

With a lot of help from spellcheck, my trusty word books and a very patient old timer sitting next to me in the dept - it all worked out.
27-year-old Female
I'm a 27-year-old female MT (7 years) with a numb right wrist, but I love my job.  Started with Transcriptions Limited, then Medquist & Spheris, now thoroughly enjoying MT at a small but wonderful service.

A 50-year-old female.
peek-a-boo!!
If you're a female then it's ....sm
going to be a worse adjustment than if you're male. Women have zero rights there and dogs are treated better here in the US. Would you want to have to keep your body veiled, never be able to speak against a man, have to walk behind them and have zero life? Then move there.

If you're a man then you don't have to deal with being treated like a slave but you will have to endure watching women being treated poorly.

I have a friend who went there to work as a paramedic in the early 90s because of the tax-free job stuff, but came back after 3 months because he couldn't stand watching women being treated the way they were.

Im an IC with 7-different offices.  Yes, I stay pretty busy
#2 should be 82-year-old female,
#5 depends on how the client wants abbreviations (po versus p.o.) and according to BOS it is q.4h. with no space between the q. and the 4; #1 also depends on the client; I have one account that specifically states 2 spaces after periods and colons.
not all female here and 2 things...sm

You presume all MTs are *hens* = female - so #1 you are incorrect and #1....you *seem* to be living in a bubble. Do some research on Area 51....and then come back and comment some more.....and then don't forget about ALL govts and what all they do in secrecy......

AREA 51.......and all of Nevada!!
