Double click on the gold speaker in the task bar. Play control box will open. Make sure the volume is turned all the way up on both Wave/MP3 and MIDI Synth. That worked for me.

My sound also seemed to have too much treble, so I clicked on Advanced at the bottom and turned up the bass. It's much easier on the ears now.

        i wis i had that problem! sometimes that happens and we concentrate in the total wrong areas. so g - LMT
