I use "hy" for hyper and "ho" for hypo. I typically put that in front of the first three letters of the second part of the compound term.

So,

hythy = hyperthyroidism
hothy = hypothyroidism

Rarely do I have abbv's bump into each other, but with some Expanders that doesn't matter.
