i do my job. i send very few reports to QA. Yet I take offense at the attitudes of editors.

Quit beitching. You don't like the whole package of MT editing, get out. And I rarely hear from editors, do not have low QA (been with the company for 7 years) so I have no reason to "hate" an editor. I just hate the attitude here. And now you are hearing from someone who does their job.

Send the editors an e-mail telling them the word in question and

ask them to decide how THEY would like it so that you can get it correct in the future without having to spend more time worrying.

Be a problem solver.  You have no control over who is editing your work and the editors need to be consistent in what they tell you regarding basic stuff like this.  Left them make the decision and get back to you.  That will solve a problem for them, you and all the other MTs.  communicate.....just communicate

Looking for an encryption program so I can send reports.

I have a call in system and also use tapes. We send completed reports via encrypted email.
I use MPCount, which is a free line counting program that you can download and it works great.
If I send reports using WinZip, does the recipient need WinZip to open it?
    x
And it is attitudes like this one
that will never allow the MTs to make more money - at a national anyway.

If the companies are having to hire more QA to do the work the MT should have done in the first place, how are they going to be able to give the MTs what they think they are owed? I know not all MTs have this attitude but it seems like more and more are getting it everyday. I just wish people could try to see the big picture instead of what is just going on inside their little world.

If you don't like the pay and you're not going to do the job correctly, please find another job!! It sure would be a mess if people we depend on in our everyday lives to do their jobs correctly so OUR lives run smoothly took on this same kind of attitude!

I'm off my soapbox now. May the flaming begin!!!!
    WOW... attitudes...
Geez, look at the date on it.  You will then see it was posted way before I got a response.  Good eye ya got there!
    "negative attitudes"...sm
Playing the "single mother" card is just as much a "negative" attitude as the that of the people you happen to disagree with here. So many single mothers have an entitlement attitude and see everything that goes wrong as being "against single mothers."

Most of them need to lose the chip on their shoulder, and maybe good things might start happening.
    Stinky attitudes abound here.
If you were missing lines every day for every report you would have a bad attitude, too. This is not about people being petty.
Ugly, physically repulsive people with nasty attitudes have that effect on me.
    Ugly, ugly, ugly
The MR reports were being filed. Referring physicians/medical care providers reports were not.
This is a hospital radiology department with in-house MTs and a clerk who is in charge of the report distribution.
yes, by the 2nd offense they ought to be
of society, either permanently out of this world or permanently behind bars.
    Sorry, no offense to you.
    x
No offense was taken. I'm just sorry that your

experience with those few you have met has not been good.

    no offense
to the original poster, but tends to make you wonder why they send work to other countries.
no offense taken now that sm
I understand. I was not familiar until today that AHDI is the former AAMT. I have not read an AAMT publication in years. I don't particularly like their "core" values, politics etc. I was just doing the CMT thing for myself as well as other schooling/certifications. My way of coming back into the real world after a very devastating illness!

    Don't worry about it really.

    Take care
    No offense but -
With all due respect, being able to stay home with one's children is NOT a perfect reason to become an MT. I believe there are certain personality characteristics, IMO, that one must have in order to be successful in this industry.

~First of all, in order to be a *successful* MT, one must have not only an excellent grasp of the English language, both written and spoken, but also an 'ear' for picking up and deciphering various other native tongues as well.

~On top of that, one must have above-average instincts and inherent skills for research, as this career requires not simply typing what you think you hear, but many times doing extensive investigation to make sure you are indeed hearing correctly.

~An excellent memory; the ability to recall the spelling of a medication or a syndrome or a genetic disorder without having to look it up each time it is encountered is invaluable in this field.

~Last but definitely not least, I feel in order to be successful in this field, one must have a keen interest in the medical field. These aren't simply words we're transcribing; they're legal medical documents. If one does not have a love of the medical field and an enjoyment of learning something new almost daily, this is NOT an appropriate career.

I'm sorry, but with all due respect, you choosing to enter a field simply to stay home with the kiddies is not enough. Without the necessary drive and willingness to learn, one is destined for failure. Unfortunately, it sounds as if perhaps you already have failed.

Please overlook any typos; I've been working 10 hours and my dinner is awaiting me :-)
that's hilarious! No offense, of course!
Sounds like something I would do... I actually did LOL!
No offense, but couldn't you have used
of your own? You could get one from another company, I'm sure, but would it reflect the information you need to know?

For example, if you need orthopedic MTs versus ophthalmologic MTs, asking which is correct in Tenon versus tenon or sub-Tenon verus subtenon would be important and might not be on a test you pull from someone else.

I could be wrong, but I'm wondering if you haven't had to do much testing personally that you wouldn't know what you would want in your own test??
No offense meant, but how do you know this? Again, I am not s/m
trying to be rude--this is an honest question. Is there someone we can read about these differences (production-based versus other)? Thanks in advance.
The two sentence normal reports will balance out the 3 page reports.
    I am Wendy too
No offense, but this made me laugh.....

Where do you live that you get polite customer service from McDonald's?  lol.  I'm lucky if they acknowledge me when they stick their hand out the window for my money.

OK. No offense back at you. I said it below. If you have an employer you are not an IC! Get your own
    nm
Why would you take offense? It is the real world and it exists.

It is not meant to be offending to anyone, just an honest statement made by someone.  Everyone grew up differently with different values and "prejudices" handed down to them, or "on them", and we as adults see that and try to correct it.   Prejudice is learned, and I for one am learning how not to be prejudice!

Use high speed internet. No offense taken. nm
    x
I have to agree with this..... no offense intended, but it is true. nm
    x
No offense, but big deal. AAMT is NOT for the American MT.
    o
no offense, but that really doesn't make any sense
    6/cpl is 6/cpl and that's 3 cents less per line than 9/cpl.
Wanna a little advice? I've been at this for 10+ years and no offense, but I think you outta get an
I may be way off base here, but you've posted like 6 posts. One says your bored, one says you'd get more done if you'd stop watching TV and surfing the net, and one says you can't get motivated to work in the early morning hours.

And since you say you are a "new to work at home MT", I think maybe you lack the organization skills, motivation, and dedication it takes to be a successful work-at-home MT.

This is just some friendly advice. I am one of those people and after working at home for about 5 years and barely making ends meet, I recognized my weaknesses and took at job back in the office.

Guess what? I am posting this from my work. I am halfway through my shift, I have met my quota and earned incentive, and still have time to post this. Plus, I can still earn a little more incentive before the night is through.

    Just a suggestion...
Who's laughing? I'm just shocked that you take offense to the person who is correcting
YOUR mistakes, rather than the morons who are making these ridiculous errors, making the MT profession look silly.  These mistakes should not have been made.  I'm embarrassed for you my dear, not laughing at you.
No offense, but your attending the meeting in Boston won't make
heads so far up overseas companies butts, there is no way they are going to change.  AAMT might as well go the way of the Do-Do where the US is concerned.  I heard that they were changing their name anyway.  Why should any US MTs give a rats butt what AAMT thinks or does.  The only membership they will have in the future will be offshore.  I think it's high time for a new organization, one that doesn't suck up to offshore companies the way AAMT and MTIA does.  Of course, my view will be taken as protectionism, which is absurd when my whole view is that jobs are being taken away from American workers and American's privacy is in jeapordy when dictated files get funneled overseas.
Uh yeah, in a debate there's usually defense and an offense. Hence someone is always "on the
defensive."  I simply posted my opinion about non-compete clauses and my experience with an untrustworthy service and how I handled it and then I'm called unethical and unprofessional.  That kind of puts me on the defensive, dontcha think? Kind of begs me to defend my actions...
No offense, but you were unaware of the history of AAMT/AHDI
I would suggest that you learn more about the history and realities of these subjects before calling for a big strike or walkout. Credibility is an issue here.
I took offense at that too, but I chose to ignore it in favor of the issue of the post.
I figured if we made a big deal of that one word the focus would be taken off the real issue.
No offense, but your post didn't make any sense whatsoever.
Maybe you didn't explain it right, but I read and re-read and don't understand a thing you just said.
No offense, but I hardly doubt kids 6, 8, and 9 in a real emergency would be savvy enough to handle
their cell phones properly while some creep is carrying them away.  And they're away from you with cell phones at that young age?? Oh my! Please reconsider. Perhaps you're feeling false security from a cell phone.
Well, it is called the World Wide Web! Sorry, your post made me laugh! No offense... but duh! nm

Exactly! Mail fraud is a HUGE offense, and it gets worse dependent on how many state lines the

envelope with the $$ crosses! (Long time E-Bayer who knows the ropes on getting scammed - only happened to me once, but I pursued the guy from coast to coast!)

Sorry it happened to you, Laura.  Weird thing - I have a C-phone sitting here unused for years and years, and you could have had it.  Now out of nowhere, I need to use it.  But let me know if you ever need one again - I may run across another one lurking in my attic!  You could have it for nothing, girl!!  And with power cord, headphones, and foot pedal!

To all the QA/editors out there
I was wondering what are some of the funny mistakes you've come across and could you give examples?  Also wondering if you think the majority of mistakes made by MTs is due to laziness or just lack of knowledge.  Thanks.
    editors
You need to put your period inside the quotation marks, not outside.  You did that not once, but twice.  As an editor, you need to set an example.  Alas, you simply gave the poor complaining chap more ammo.
    Editors...
Your email and that of the other editor below - 3 kids under age 5, wondering why she can't get anything done - indicate what some of the MTs here suspect - that some editors are just nasty tempered space cadets.

How do you know you are being stabbed in the back? Do you feel the knife through cyber space?

I hope you feel better after you vented.
    editors
Amen to that! I agree absolutely and totally 100% with you.
    Editors
Wake up honey, without THEM you wouldn't have a job. If it were not for transcriptionists all of you would be history. You get a paycheck because of THEM.
    MTs and editors
MTs are independent contractors and the editing position is salary.  Anyone interested is welcome to send resume to jeannemichael@cox.net.
well put! - they want EDITORS

By the time you "set type"

Follow all the little idiosyncricies demanded by all the white coats

Know the doctors names "slurred" by the other white coats

    Corrected the work type

    and oh yes.......the latest problem

The information is NOT on the screen because it has come to us too fast (remember that TAT!)

so we have to stop and enter that.

    I feel like a dam^ed type setter - not a transcriptionist.

This is NOWHERE NEAR copy-ready work.

Last doctor I typed today I had to "re do" all his sentences, edit,

    correct verb tenses, pronouns.

I'm not paid enough to be their mother, English teacher, and nose wiper.

    Editors/QA should always be...
hourly or salaried. If you pay an Editor by production standards, they will just fly through the work trying to make an income, thus, missing a lot of errors. I was at a company that went from salaried editors to production, simply because one or two bad apples sat at home filing their nails on the clock, thereby ruining it for everyone else who was working honestly and consistently.
    pay for editors
Oh my gosh, you make $20 an hour? Can you tell me where you work? I make a little over $14 and haven't had a raise in eons...I need the money too...
    Pay for QA editors
QA - could you give a heads up where to find these jobs that pay more? I'm a QA person and do good work. I have asked for a raise but was ignored (believe it or not). I'm getting very frustrated and resentful toward this company.
QA editors, this is how I would
like to be corrected (general format):  (a)  Here is your error.  (b)  Here is how I want it done (c)  If this is a change, this is a notice of the change (d)  If I have had to correct you on this before, consider this a warning.  (e)  This correction deserves some explanation, so here it is. (f)  Research this first, but if you really do not understand it, contact me.    There are no unnecessary remarks either way.  There are no attempts to toss mean shots, because they serve no purpose.  A professional QA Editor can teach a new MT a great deal, and get that newbie to work WITH her, by setting a good example in terms of professional behavior.
    The 2 bad editors???
What ended up happening with these two editors? Why did you have to let them go? How exactly are they "scamming" you? How much money was the check? Are you sure they received the check? Did you stop payment on it? That would be the intelligent thing to do. There really is no information here to warrant a warning to others. This kind of sounds more like trying to give someone a hard time because of them leaving. I don't think you can give information out like you are claiming, can you? Was your company treating them fairly? In my past dealings....there is always to sides of the story and the one who is usually spouting off if the one that is in the wrong.
MT editors - could you please tell me sm
what your job entails of on a daily basIt?  I have been transcribing for a long time now and I am thinking of looking into editing.  What do I need to know or do to obtain a position in the editing field?  TIA
I wonder if this was with editors or not
Good news for us, I guess but if they invest in this program they will want us to take less for editing and if it takes as long to edit as it does to type it, I don't see how we can take less. That is the next big fight we will have.
