what could be more unsightly that broken veins on the face? well, lucky me, i have them. eveyr few years go in for treatment. electrical zaps to destroy broken blood vessel. Hurts like the dickens though. Can't use pain relievers because it causes constriction of blood vessels, they told me.

Help! Have face-to-face interview for at-home hospital job tomorrow and ....SM

I want to ask the most comprehensive questions I can so as to make the best decision possible.  I work for a small national right now, pretty happy but would like better benefits, especially more affordable and better insurance.  I already know this hospitals pays .09 cpl and .11 if you do more than 1200 lines per day.  It's been so long since I've been interviewed in person.  I need you guys to help me make a list of questions to ask so that I can just get it all down on paper and make sure I'm not missing anything.  I know they use ChartScript and Lanier and that they provide the computer.  What else exactly should I ask?

I came across my best friend online, but I have yet to meet her face to face sm
I have known her for several years. We talk a couple of times a day. I have never seen her face to face, but I could not live without her love and support and she feels the same.

I have given my number out several times recently. I have yet to come across a serial killer. They are all MTs. Without exception, they have all been wonderful. In three cases, we are all working on friendship. In one case, I think we will be close in time. We are very similar in many ways and I just think she is wonderful.

I have dated on line and we were together as a couple in person for a year. It was a great experience.
Give notice face to face and (sm)

briefly explain the circumstances.  In the same conversation ask if it's ok to use the company as a reference and possibly provide a "To Whom It May Concern" letter of recommendation.  Then follow up with a brief letter.  A good reference goes a long way, even as an IC!

Have a face-to-face talk with your son!
Tell your son you love him and care for him, but you are just not happy about his soon to be wife/lesbian calling his mother/soon-to-be mother-in-law these nasty things. Tell your son that if he wants any part of his family then he needs to talk to his girlfriend and tell her that she needs to respect his mother or things will sure be hell down the long road. You know how it is when you do not get along with in-laws. Sounds like your son had a lot of communicating to do or you may not respect him anymore.
face to face demeanor is always different...sm
guess they figure if you can't see 'em, they can be themselves.
I know their demeanor is different face to face,
but if they treat the medical record with such little regard, I really wonder what kind of ethics they have regarding the medical care given to their patients.
Of course it's painful (sm)

Having needles poked into your skin tends to be painful.  It's worst over bone, though.  See link for the most comprehensive and honest FAQ I know of concerning tattooing.  One idea I liked -- use a Sharpie to draw your design and live with it for a few days/weeks to see if you really like it.

I've a nice purple dancing bear on my ankle.

Yes. It was a little painful but had great
results. I started seeing the most improvement after my 4th treatment.

painful knees

I know this is not a doctor's office, but was wondering if any one is having trouble with their knees and if anyone has any advice.   From sitting in a chair with my knees bent, they are really starting to kill me.  Thank you.

painful knees
Thanks for the feedback.
painful knees
Thanks for the feedback. I have had Lymes Disease and it might be a flair-up of the fibromyalgia. It is also in my spine. I really think I need to start walking and exercising.
not painful and very quick procedure but...sm
But......a person needs multiple sessions and that's where it gets very expensive.  The plastic surgeons I work for did it and the one who does not own the practice charged me 50%.  I went twice and didn't go back and yes, the chin hairs recurred.  It is nonpainful and fast procedure FYI.
Painful bruise on forearm

Please don't tell me to call my doctor - I don't have one in this area, just moved here a few weeks ago.  I will be calling to get established next week.

I have a bruise on my forearm about 1 inch below the antecubital fossa.  It spontaneously appeared 2 weeks ago, is about 1 inch long and wide (not exactly circular).   Normally, my bruises heal VERY quickly and are gone in 3 days or so - this is around for 2 weeks now and hurts - the pain is constant although rather low level.

I am not on a blood thinner and do not take aspirin products.    The only med I take is a thyroid replacement pill every day.

I'm not a wimp, and I'm not asking for sympathy or sarcasm but since this is a new occurrence for me, I'm wondering whether I should mention it to the doctor's office when I set up my establishment appointment.

P.S.:  I had a sister with leukemia, undiagnosed until after she bled to death.

Thanks for any information you care to share.

Painful fingers from typing
I experience sore, aching fingers each day from typing.  Because of this, I cannot do more than 1000 lines a day.  Ibuprofen helps somewhat.  I do not know what is wrong.  The knuckles appear a bit enlarged and upon waking in the morning each finger appears swollen.  I am a thin person.  I wear fleece gloves with no fingers all day while typing for warmth.  This is more than just an annoyance  but rather something that gets bad enough that I have trouble concentrating on typing because all I can think of is the pain.  The doctor I saw was no help at all.  Anyone else having this problem?
I agree my painful is shameful...
But as far as being full-time MTs in this area with benefits and being paid hourly this is "good". Yep, that's how badly this profession is going down the tubes.

The only place I can work other than this and make more money with benefits is the hospital and they expect even more production from you, with harder jobs that I am not experienced with.

I took the paycut becuase I get to work from home (they released me to work from after one year).

TMJ treatment
I have had TMJ for years. I had an appliance that I wore for years, and it helped, but was nothing permanent. I don't remember everything I did, but quite a few things. This year we started going to a chiropractor, and one of the things he has worked on is the TMJ issue. He uses some kind of a little tool on the jaw, gives it a click or two, which pushes on the bone at the joint, and this has helped more than anything I have done over the years. My daughter also has TMJ, and this very simple treatment has helped her, too. I don't know if all chiropractors do this or not. He isn't a go-in-and-have-your-back-adjusted-because-it-hurts kind of guy. We started out seeing him three times a week, and are now down to twice a week. He has helped all of us (hubby, daughter, grandson, too), and we consider him a big part of our health care. Knowing what I know now, I'd certainly opt for this very simple treatment before I did surgery, braces, appliances, etc.
QA Treatment
Well said MTheaded.
Any suggestions for painful hands/wrists from typing?

My hands are always freezing cold.  I wear fleece "wristies" to keep warmer.  I have pain in both hands all day from typing.  One wrist has a ganglion, and both wrists have some arthritis showing on x-ray.  I rub capsaisin on hands/wrists.  Still the pain persists.  Pain relievers (Advil, etc.) do not help much.   Prescriptions from doctors did nothing.

I was wondering if other heavy typers out there might have found some helpful things to alleviate hand/wrist pain.  I even purchased "warming cream" which is supposed to help increase circulation to the hands, but it did nothing.  I have several keyboards that I have tried also.

THanks!

aggressive treatment sm
You are correct. I hope I never get that QA person!
I wish you the best of luck with your treatment.
I worked with a lady who underwent treatment for a lung mass and she worked up until she got too tired, but bounced back really well once the treatment was over.  She came back really strong.  There are so many new modalities to treat it.  As far as your work, I am wondering if you could try to do as much as possible and find someone in your area to assist when needed.  The reason I say this is because this will keep you sort of balanced.  You don't want to give up your clients because they will be support as well.  You may just want to mention it to someone you trust at the practice, and I think you'll be surprised at how supportive some offices can really be when you are dealing with these types of issues as an independent.   Take care and God Bless!
Who is dishing out the bad treatment?
Sometimes I have to remind myself that those persons at these companies who treat/treated me badly are not the owners.  The recruiters, QA, trainers, account reps, supervisors, unpleasant person who answers the phone, etc., are usually employees as well.  Whenever I have experienced foul treatment at a company, it has come from these other employees.  Whenever I have actually had contact with an owner, they have generally been very nice and respectful.  Of course, I'm not referring here to pay rates and benefits, just attitude and respect.
My ankle pops. It's not painful, but occasionally it will get stiff and then pop very loudly.

Laser printerG

Go to HP home page and see what they have and then go to Office Depot or Office Max.  Mine cost several thousands but I needed the speed, etc.  But I think that there are several that are under $500.   Too bad we don't live close by I have an old 4P that is a work horse that is just sitting here but I needed the triple drawers and capabilty to do envelopes and so it sits here.

Good luck.

Anyone tried the new laser mouses?

I'd consider them worth the money if they work.  100.00 here in California.

Jerking my left arm around trying to get from one window to the next has given me a most painful left arm.  Can only think that it is from being tense while typing (stressful job we have; didn't use to be this way) and then moving my arm suddenly and quickly to maneuver.  Tennis elbow is what it feels like but now the shoulder and entire bone aches like it was involved in a horrible injury.  I hope this isn't part of growing old (47).

Inkjet or laser?
I have a HP all-in-one that I use for printing and for a fax.  I do not print the office notes, but the doctors fax me patient lists and copies of notes for which they want changes made or corrections.  I think if I printed office notes my ink cartridge expense would be a whole lot more than the figures you quoted.
Laser - large HP

I have a large HP, three drawer laser printer and I go through 500 sheets of chart note paper, probably another 400 to 600 for consults and letters per month and probably 200  envelopes per week and I seriously use only at the maximum of 3 toners per year and they are $110 per toner recycled.   My printer gets 10,000 to 15,000 copies per toner so about every three to four months I get one.  I spend more on the chart paper than I do the toners.    But that is all figured into my cpl.

laser printer
I think it's because it's a laser printer.  Laser printers work much like copiers in that they heat the paper to seal the ink onto the page. Sticky paper hates laser printers.  Do you have options as to where you purchase the paper?  Maybe look at the manufacturer's web site to see if they have a type that works with laser printers.  If they don't then you are looking at either dealing with feeding the paper in one at a time and keeping the laser printer or trading it in back for another ink jet.  Different ink jets use ink at different rates so you can compare and see which would be the most economical for what you do.
Laser Kat, she is not going to listen . sm
Just another whiny MT who thinks its all about them.

The ones that wont' work just leave more work for the rest who are looking for jobs and want to work.
I hope you're OK and are looking into treatment.
I had a bit of a cancer scare myself about a month ago on top of losing my job the month before that. The doctor said I'll probably still need surgery but the condition isn't malignant. I'm getting rid of things left and right and trying to figure out what to do with my life now. I even gave up on two of my hobbies because I never have time for them. Well, you take care of yourself. {{{{hugs}}}}
she was in Mexico for treatment for cancer, BUT...
From what I heard on GMA a few days ago, the clinic she was in was deplorable. There was even an article about it on the Watchdog website, AND the man running the clinic was NOT a doctor. So, what does that say about the person or persons who took this woman there for treatment?
Just Finished Treatment for Sciatica

I was diagnosed with sciatica/piriformis syndrome about a month ago. My physiatrist sent me to physical therapy for Graston therapy and iontophoresis. I was to the point where I had to sleep in my recliner with a heating pad on my hip. Of course, this is the result of sitting for too long......a battle wound common to the medical transcriptionist.

The Graston therapy is pretty painful and you really wonder how it could possibly help. The iontophoresis consisted of a patch with two large circular pads connected by an electrode. The pads are soaked with dexamethasone. The patch is then stuck to the butt for 24 hours. It's painless, except I pulled off a couple of layers of skin when I removed them. I had this done about 5-6 different times over a three-week period. I was also taught some gentle stretches to stretch these muscles, which I haven't been too diligent about doing.

Bottom line is that I completed my PT about two weeks ago and I haven't had any pain since then. I hope you get some relief for your condition. I know how very painful it can be.

or "more agressively treatment"....
that hurts my ears!  LOL
Why I deserve more money and better treatment as an MT...

I do NOT transcribe "medial sonoscopy."

Good Lord.

Need Laser printer recommendations

I may need to purchase a laser printer as the SOAP sheets that the office I work for sends to me are jamming in my HP ink jet printer. It has to be due to the writing that is being done on these SOAP sheet pages at the top where they fill in pertinent patient info, i.e., name of pt, vitals signs, birth control, etc., as well as how much the paper is being handled, shuffled, corners getting bent, etc.

I have a new ink jet printer and have always had a problem with these sheets in every ink jet printer I have owned but my newest (and nicest printer thus far) it is happening more than ever before. It is very frustrating and time consuming to deal with this.

I was told that laser printers do not cause this problem as they utilize a different mechanism in printing. So, I may need to purchase a laser printer but would like some recommendations. I cannot afford a lot. I am hoping if I have to do this I can find a good one for around $400. I would appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks so much.

Laser hair removal?

Anybody ever gotten it before? I'm seriously considering it for my upper lip (and maybe chin where there are a few isolated hairs).

I've had electrolysis before, but never saw any improvement over months and months (and lots of $). Even though laser is expensive, I think it'll come out the same or cheaper than electrolysis. And electrolysis was very painful! This is supposed to be a bit painful, but not so bad.

Please share IF you've had laser. What area of the body? How long did it take? Has it been permanent for you?

thanks!

Laser Hair Removal
I have spent thousands of dollars on this for my daughter - three different types of lasers and the problem is still there - and at one point even got worse. Be certain that you aren't having a hormonal problem and that you are not part of an ethnic group where women naturally have more hair - it didn't work for my daughter.
laser hair removal
We have spent thousands and I mean thousands of dollars on laser hair removal for my daughter and it would work for about a couple of months and then the hair would grow back worse than ever. We have tried three different lasers and no one gives you a guarantee - so if they try to - don't buy it - read the small print before you sign. I know it is a frustrating situation - it also hurts. Electrolysis didn't work for her either, and she stays upset about this all the time.
Laser jet not ink jet printer - more economical
I have a laser jet printer and though the ink is expensive at 100 a cartridge, it lasts me for six to eight  months and I do printing for all of my five accounts.    My printer was top of the line over ten years ago and I just got a new HP color laser jet for $899 but they end up paying for themselves by not going through as much ink as a ink jet.   For one of my accounts I do the letterhead on the paper.  Have done that many times for many accounts.   I incorporate it into the price.   I supply paper, sticky paper also.  Two accounts supply their letterhead and I provide second sheets.   My friend has an inj jet and constanly complains about the amount of ink she goes through.  It is all a cost of business.  But if this is something new, she should put on a $10 charge per month depending on how many letters she is doing.  I probably print off 400 sheets per week.
Symptomatic treatment is the only thing you can do, and watch for

It's Laetrile and it was supposedly used for cancer treatment

I'd give the kids the same treatment on their birthday....sm
that should get their attention!
Sounds like you are giving them star treatment!
Good job!
But be sure to drink lots of fluid after a treatment and...
you might get on a good calcium with magnesium supplement to aid in good healthy of your bones. My chiropractic treatments have decreased tremendously since I got on the drinkable kind! Good luck......there's enough pain in the MT world these days without pain in one's body, too!
Laser treatments are coming down in price...sm

The facial treatments are the least expensive from what I've found in my reasearch, simply because it's a small area. Over the course of time, permanent laser TX wouldn't be any mroe expensive than constant, continued waxing, etc.

Laser hair removal is not permanent....nm

I have the MS 6000 wireless laser keyboard...sm
And I love it! I used the split ergonomic keyboards (new one about every 6 months!) for the last 10+ years, but this thing is great. Your reach isn't nearly as long as it is with the split ergonomic and my speed has increased on it. It came with the wireless mouse, but I use a trackball so it just got shunted aside.

I looked at the 4000, but the "insert" key is in some weird place and I use that a lot. It's in the normal place on the 6000 with the delete key underneath it.

My best friend also bought the 6000, going from the split ergonomic, and loves it too. She can't get over how much her speed has increased.

It doesn't clack, though!!

And I too type with my keyboard in my lap, bought a lapdesk off ebay for about $25. My chair has arms and a bunch of different adjustments for back, neck, etc. It came from Office Depot for about $200.
Meant to say normal treatment for woman in Amish comnmunity. nm
