lie detector tests too huh busy. just to see if everyone tells the truth about credentials and goal

I think they should check your medical and psychiatriac records too and see what type of medications you may be prescribed.  Maybe they could interview your neighbors and family to see if you have a history or lying or fabricating, delusions of grandeur, bipolar or just plain character flaws.  I have noted that on these boards sometimes people tend to fabricate.  hahaha. bwaaaaaaahaaaaaaa

Check it all out before you can get a job working at home.  I mean the pay is worth it to go through all the hoops and if you are exposed as a deviant too bad. No sense it taking ridiculous risks for .8 cents per line doiing medical transcription when you can ship it to India for way cheaper to all those good souls who don't have any vices.

Allegiant has clinic accounts and is busy, busy, busy
If you're an IC and are looking for plenty of work, freedom to set your own hours, low daily line requirement (500), great supervisors, and easy clinic accounts, then Allegiant may be the right company for you. You can apply by going to www.allegianttranscription.com.

Allegiant's pay scale is 7 cpl also, but would you rather get 7 cpl and easily transcribe 250 lph or get 10 cpl and struggle to do 150 lph. Give me 7 cpl any day and spare me the headache.
The truth will set you free and the truth is more low level income people w/o education or proper
skills to keep up their home or train their children live in trailer homes and low income housing. If that sets you off, maybe you should not visit these threads or read the posts regarding others viewpoints on trailer parks. They have zoning laws against them in many communities because they draw undesirable people are not particularly pleasing to the community as a whole, bringing property values down. If you have issues with this, seek out the government in various communities and have them change the laws. Fact is fact and you cannot dispute these facts.
She could probably fan the detector while she smokes to keep it from going off

The truth stings sometimes and I congratulate MTStars for having the kahoonas to post truth.
Tired of being lied to. I'm a big girl and can handle the truth. Why can't you?
Looking for a cigarette smoke detector (sm)

My mother lives with us and has gotten into the habit of sneak smoking in the back bathroom.  She thinks we can't smell it.  Have a granddaughter with asthma and I am very particular about smoke in the house.

I thought if I had a detector that would buzz when she lit up that would encourage her to go outside like my husband does.

I have tried talking to her about smoke smells in there when I have washed down the wallpaper and cleaned rugs/shower curtains down.  The smell clings to that wallpaper like glue.  She simply denies that anyone smokes in there.   She keeps multiple candles in there and thinks she is "covering up the smell".

Any suggestions on a device that might be useful is appreciated.

Opened a can of worms, eh? Truth hurts, but it is TRUTH!

8 cpl is about the top out in the US MT industry. If you're making more consider yourself lucky because it just might be snatched away from you at any moment. For the 14 cent per liner, good for you! You went out and got your own accounts. Others should follow your example. As far as the "stupid" MT comment, keep in mind that she was not consistent and **often** had one excuse after another not to work, yet I could see her online and when I would ask her why she was online she would give VERY lame excuses.  Also, keep in mind that I also was the one who helped this gal out monetarily to begin with and she took advantage of my generosity.  Don't make me out to be the bad gal here just because I own a service.  The shoe could easily be on your foot.

So, NEWS FLASH, if you have an MT position that is paying more than 8 cpl, consider it a real blessing and pray that your job isn't outsourced offshore.

If you have gas heat/appliances in your home, PLEASE make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector!
Apparently our stove is not burning the gas properly and it built up inside our house.  We are lucky we only need the stove repaired.
credentials
There is a website called www.healthgrades.com that gives the info. You do have to pay for the report though.
M.D. credentials
www.docboard.org
B and E and have never had a recruiter ask for CMT credentials ever! nm
n
...and besides, who needs their stupid credentials?
All I did was line AAMT's coffers.  I no longer belong to AAMT nor do I keep up my CMT credential.  Has not hurt one bit professionally.  Please point out something positive that AAMT has accomplished for our profession.  All CMT does is provide AAMT with more money for their dog and pony show.  AAMT?  No thanks!  We need someone who REALLY represents the day-to-day MT, not a select few.
CMT credentials and AAMT
The post below about AAMT certifying offshore MTs made me wonder. Do you think an offshore CMT is just as good as an American CMT? I ask because I am quite certain most doctors would think so. I remember hearing once about an Indian MT that took the test over 6 times before passing. They just kept giving him money to take it until he passed. Doctors may not know or care what CMT means as far as we are concerned, but if an Indian company telemarkets your doctor with a too-good-to-be-true offer, and oh by the way, did we mention we were certified by the AMERICAN Medical Transcription Association? All of a sudden your doctor and my doctor and all doctors will care what CMT means, and to them it will mean, same quality - but cheap.

So, the CMT definitely benefits someone, though if the transcription service doesn't live up to the doctor's normal quality standards, what does that tell him about the CMT or the AAMT in general?

Am I ranting or rambling? You decide. :)
doctor credentials
I just got new health insurance and am searching for a new doctor.  Does anyone know of a web site where I can check credentials of doctors?
What do the credentials FAAMT stand for? TIA
x
Why would you want to spend $298 on credentials that don't matter anyway?

For a penny more a line?

Either way you were wasting your money.  The thing is, you probably failed by one point on something totally irrelevant question having to do with one of the ever-changing BOS rules.

In my opinion, experience wins over passing some lame certification exam concocted by an organization of fat cats looking for more ways to line their pockets with our money.

Don't be too disappointed that you failed.  Be disappointed that you bought into the AAMT hype.

she was too busy for you the way you are often too busy for her...what's the question? nm

RE: Can someone tell me what the site is to check on a doctor's credentials & record? nm

Those credentials for teachers in public school are NOT the norm...
At my daughter's school when she was in 3rd grade she showed me her final spelling test.  The list contained the words:  You, me, and two, among other similar ones.  My daughter was in the gifted program, and those were her final spelling words in preparation for 4th grade!!  We do NOT have public school teachers with PhD degrees in anything.  They're lucky they have a Bachelor's.  I have a Bachelor's and consider myself quite capable of teaching.  Believe me - all schools are NOT created equal.
You don't have to believe, the truth is the truth. I, too, have seen with my own two eyes and ha

years experience as an MT.  I say misfortune because MTs with this much experience usually have gigantic egos and feel like they've "seen it all and done it all."  They simply don't make mistakes.  Not possible, no way.  This particular MT became irate with me.  She actually threw her 20+ years experience in my face and said "I've been doing this for over 20 years, I think I know what I'm doing!"  It was painfully obvious, she did not have a clue.  She'd been doing it wrong for 20 years and no one ever told her, so she thought she was right.

I had another MT with 10 years experience call me to scream at me and hung up on me when I tried to explain her errors to her.

The plain truth is, some people can't take criticism whether it be constructive or destructive.  They don't like to be wrong or be told their wrong.  Egos get in the way.  We are all guilty of letting our egos get in the way from time to time, but in this field, you need to be willing to admit you're wrong and you need to be able to accept criticism gracefully and give criticism diplomatically.

As an editor, I encourage MTs to let me know if they disagree with any corrections I've made.  I am happy to provide MTs with my reference materials and resources.  I am happy to admit when I am wrong and I am happy to say that I make mistakes too.  Just don't try to tell me that an MT with 16 years experience can't possibly be making terminology mistakes - she can and probably has in the past and will again in the future.

this is my goal too...
haven't reached it just yet, though.
what is the LPH goal they have for you?
x
Definitely have a goal! sm
I certainly want to be involved in high-level administration. I have arranged some interviews with several professionals to get more of a realistic scope of their positions so I can tailor my educational pathway accordingly.

Thank you so much for responding!
If you need a goal, then set your

own goal based upon what you are doing now.  Stop comparing yourself to others.  What if you found out the other gals are doing twice as much as you?  Will you magically find a way to do twice as much as you are now, or will you feel worthless because you are only half as good an employee?

You SHOULD BE DOING your own personal best, always, no matter what everyone else is doing.

The ultimate goal
is accurate, timely reports to facilitate patient care, and whatever comes along to accomplish this will be used.  We know it won't happen overnight, but , as we all know, new methods are being tried as we speak.  Nothin' stays the same.
I sit a goal for myself, on 8 hours
I usually am hitting 3000 but that is both VR and straight. I do not want to work full time anymore so figured it would take about that a day in order to work just part like I want but still to get a decent salary.
My goal is $150/day, only type

I am a slow typer so I need all of the info that I can get about expanders/short cuts.  I am only getting 7cpl and can type about 135 lph (slow I know).  Anyway, I need to be making $150 a day at least.  What do I need to do specifically to accomplish this in a 6 to 8 hour day?  I have Instant Text....  Thanks

FOLLOWUP: We are now only $75.00 away from reaching our goal.

You generous donations are amazing and truly appreciated.  Once the goal is reached, I will be walking into Walmart to speak to the store manager about getting a gift card to this family back east and know that the MTs children WILL have Christmas this year!

THANK YOU!

FOLLOWUP: We now only need $15.00 and we will have reached our goal
and I will be on my way to Walmart.  You are all fantastic people to be so giving.  I know that it's hard to scrape bucks together working in this industry and at this time of the year, so again THANK YOU for your emergency donations!
goal is 10,000 lines a week!... :) nm

Do you have a goal job you're shooting for? sm
I did not, so I figured the BS in HIM with the RHIA was my best bet, thinking I would be readily qualified for any job in HIM. Not quite true, but I never regretting spending the time, effort, and money on it to earn it. Had I KNOWN that I wanted to be coder, or a tumor registrar specifically, I probably would have opted for just their respective certifications, but I was young and not really sure where I wanted to end up. Interestingly, I found myself with a much harder job search than I'd been led to believe would be true. I couldn't get entry-level HIM jobs because I was perceived as 'overqualified' and offices felt I would quit and move on as soon as a better opportunity came along; but I couldn't get management-type jobs because my only experience was the clinicals I did during school--understandably so, I didn't want to manage when I didn't really know what i was doing! Your certification says "administrator" but your resume doesn't.
Best of luck to you, the education is never wasted. You'll get different opinions on certification, but your classroom learning and clinicals are well worth it.
I joined in the 70's because their goal then was professional wages.
it's 2008. they must not be very good at what they do. However, they do self promote extremely well.

This info would probably have helped reach your goal this morning! LOL Thanks! nm

Dishes once a week? My goal is to live life better than the day before.
Try to enrich my life, even if it's just a little extra prayer or a little thoughtful thing for someone who doesn't expect it. Everyday.
My goal is to eventually add commentary and humor/satire/etc...sm
I'm not talented in all those areas and hope to attract other MTs who are. There's no money in it at this point, unfortunately.

My goal every year is $52k, which I have done for the past 2 years working sm
for Keystrokes. I do radiology only, I should mention. I took the amount I wanted (actually needed) to make in a year, divided it by 52 weeks, divided it by 5 days, came up with $1000 per week or $200 per day. I divided that by 8 hours and by my report rate ($1.25). I know that I need to transcribe 20 reports per hour on average. I keep a tally. Some days, it takes me longer to do than others, but I sit down and do my 8 hours every single day. I use my Expander a LOT (literally for all but a few words). I am on one account, so I know those doctors inside and out. If I am short at the end of the week, I ask if there is work available on the weekend for me to do. The most I end up with 2 hours to make up what might have been short during the week.

At $40k, you would need to make $153.85 per day, or $19.23 per hour. At $0.07, you need to type 275 lines per hour, or 2200 for the day. This should be very easy to get with using an expander and sitting down with a set schedule.

It takes a while to get used to making sure you hit your internal quota every day. I have to think of it daily and make it up on Saturday or Sunday so that I never start a week behind my personal goal.

I also take an incentives that are handed out (for instance if they are asking for help in a backlog situation at increased rate) and work at least a partial shift on holidays. If I am ahead at the end of the week, I carry it to the next week and know that I have some lines in my internal quota bank.

I know this sounds weird, but it works for me. I have helped a few others to get to their goals as well, and this seems to work for them too.

I would also look for something that is more in the 0.08 to 0.09 per line range. Ask your lead for production tips. Ask other transcriptionists. It is very possible for us to make good money, we just have to focus on our goals.

I have a sales background, which involved sales quotas. This is easier as I am in control of my daily production, not on someone else's decisions.

Good luck!
My personal goal is when my mortgage is paid off by half - just 125K to go!
Then I will cut back to part time and let hubby carry me. :-) He makes lots more than I do now anyway.
no I'm not first, he tells me so too
My fiance' has informed me many times that his kids will always be first: kids first, me second.  He's been raising them alone for 2 years now so they really take a toll on him (therefore US) emotionally, financially, even physically because his son is mentally handicapped and his daughter is extremely lazy and spoiled...so he is constantly cleaning up messes, doing unneccessary laundry, dishes, etc.  (Could start a whole topic on that alone.)  I have no kids, never been married.  I love his kids but I can't say I'd give my life for them or anything.  In fact, the more I explore our relationship I seriously doubt I will marry this man.  Already he speaks of providing for them with me providing for myself and marriage is a joint effort.  I resent the idea of furnishing a spoiled lifestyle for two kids who are not biologically mine.  He's already mentioned that he'd provide for the kids & money I make could be "our" money.  Well that amounts to me supporting the family, in my opinion....for what he buys the kids could also be used for paying bills, groceries, etc.  Sigh, I think I deserve better...a better life than this.
Exactly right. If no one tells you, you won't know.
nm
I don't think there is anything that tells you

how much RAM any particular process uses.  If you have less than 1056 you don't have enough to be leaving a lot of programs open.

You can run a defrag and that might free up some stuff if you haven't done it in a while.  Running a defrag doesn't allow you to do anything else on your computer though.  I run it when I'm through for the night.

You can do an Msconfig and see if you have hidden programs running in the background and you can disable them from loading on startup.

Something Tells Me That -
Who tells everyone how fantastic their employer is, yet refuses to divulge the name should anyone ask because you fear they'll take your job.

Am I right?

Thought so.

I don't worry about those types of things. I'm secure enough in my skill and knowledge that I'm willing to share info with and help any MT who needs it.

Life's too short for such paranoid delusions.
Maybe just a letter that tells her how much you
appreciate her and everything she's done for you, how much you love her, et cetera.  I would much rather have something like that from my children than a gift. Gifts are nice, too, but sometimes something from the heart just means so much more.

Do you believe that story. That is what they told her to say. MQ tells everyone what to say to get
what they want. You would not believe the lines I have heard from my office. I have asolutely no respect for these people. They lie through their teeth for MQ. MQ is hiring because they want to have a very short TAT and try to keep the accounts they have and then a lot of people quit because they dont have work and have tons of backups and make no money in them. Everything MQ does is for them and not the MT. You are just along for the ride.
Yes, but only if tells me to sleep all day or eat ice cream.

Thanks. That tells me a lot about why my line count..sm
seems so much lower than I feel it should be since I do about the same amount of work and probably more now, but can not seem to make 1000 lpd.
He tells me he loves me all the time, and not

only does he tell me, he shows me.  He isn't romantic at all, but he does little things all the time that shows he is thinking of me.

He likes to share new experiences with me, he enjoys going to craft shows with.  He isn't particularly fond of working in the yard, but he knows how much I enjoy it and he spends hours working in the yard, even when I'm not working with him.

He cooks and helps around the house (usually without grumbling).  I could serve him burnt toast for supper and he would thank me for a good meal.

He overlooks my faults.
