Only you can decide how to balance it. I strongly disagree with the poster about in office. It's a whole new world. I ignored DH until he finally quit bothering me. When the kid was a baby/toddler, she played close by in my office, and napped in a sling on my chest while I worked (not easy, and cut production, but it was important to me). At 13, she now barters things she can do for me to allow me time to work for special extras she may want. She started straightening up and loading dishwasher at 5. DH is gone and replaced. New DH respects my work because it wasn't a change for him. It's how it was when we dated. Friends know I won't talk on phone, take visitors, etc, when working. Kid even keeps her buds away if they're over saying, "Pretend my mom's not here because she's really at work. We can bother her if it involves blood or visible bones."
