my soapbox...

if you feel content and are willing to settle, that is your opinion you are a rare exception.

you mention voice recognition, have you experienced it? when I did it for almost a year my line count went up only in the beginning when the 'easier' dictators were being entered. After that I for one never saw those easier dictators again and then got more and more difficult work as my line count dropped. only the chosen few in that company were getting an abundnace of the easy work and they were not willing to sshare it.

I ended up making 1/3 less pay to bring home, and I was a HUGE fan of VR because it was easier on my hands, etc. I was singing its praises from the beginning and it ended up costing me a job.

do you honestly think a company is going to pay you more in the longrun, when the purpose of VR is eventually to wean you out of a job completely? that is the sole purpose of VR and anything else hospitals can find to CUT their transcription costs. it is almost a daily issue for hospitals. what can we do to rid ourselves of the burden of the cost of transcription. they hate paying that bill.

right now you seem to have it pretty good but I must say you are an exception and most MTs (and American numbers are dwindling quickly) are making less doing VR and are working twice as long to do it, unless you get lucky and know how to get the easier work.

I also do not understand your first comment, "I know we do not get paid what we are worth."

for one thing, we are taking most of us cuts in pay, or at least making the same or less than when we started over a decade ago, some of us maybe 2 decades. you are asking people to say, okay, I am not worth it, I do not matter, let me have no control over my life whatsoever and let companies treat me however they want.

do you realize how dangerous that is?

do you also realize the only reason you are making the money you make now is because of a few 'typists' from the typing pools who knew they were worth more and fought, literally FOUGHT to make this into a profession rather than just be typists at $7 an hour banded together and formed what was formerly the AAMT.

I am sorry, but these kinds of attitudes are taking us right back to our humble beginnings.

this is whath happens when rich people control everything in this country. they want you to feel 'lucky' to just have jobs. they do this China. watch the documentaries how they treat their employees because if I am not mistaken you sound like you would agree. the owners of the companies when interviewed say the same things you do that these people are happy to work 16 hours a day for what is it $5 a day or something?

My Soapbox

I had to get on a soapbox this morning.  I am TIRED.  That is spelled:

T-I-R-E-D.

I have had a number of people this week who did not care whether they were saying things right or not.  So here I go on my soapbox, on my blog.  If you care to read, link is below!!!

Soapbox time!

If it were possible to pick and choose, I would say the latter two of choice A, and those who can't work because of disabilities.

Too many freeloaders expect the government to foot the bill for things they should be working for themselves.  Well, shame on them.  There are far too many educational and business opportunities given by our government for people to better themselves.

I cringe when I send a quarterly self-employment check, because right now we really need the money.  Who knows what it gets spent for once it leaves my hands?  We have been paying two home mortgages for almost a year now, because we can't find a buyer for our old house.  It stinks because we both have to work a lot, but the bills get paid, we have a roof over our heads, and we eat three square meals a day.   God has been good to us.

I don't know about you all, but for me it has become monotonous to hear what I call the "jobless by choice" blame their not working on our  "bad economy."  I think much of it is they are too prideful to work at something "beneath" them.   I am tired of all the finger-pointing by people who want to blame everything on the president or any old scapegoat they can come up with for all the problems we have.

Whatever happened to personal accountability, being humble, and tightening the belt?

Dreamweaver's soapbox
Thank you!! It's about time someone told the other side of the story. I've only been doing medical transcription for not quite a year. I LOVE IT. I work from home, make decent money, and am learning more every day. I'm very satisfied with this job and don't understand why so many posters are so negative in here. If I hated my job as much as they seem to hate theirs, I'd find another line of work! Thanks for telling another side of this story.
The guy was Russian, Ms. PC. Get off the soapbox and lighten up.
Believe me, the people you so condescendingly "defend" wouldn't defend you if you were getting beaten and robbed before their eyes, as a matter of fact, it would be them doing it.

Keep your "holier than thou" to yourself, as well as your misplaced pity/guilt/anti-Caucasian sentiment.
